Summary: Silly Catholics
Review: I thought this was the funniest movie ever. Plus, there are enough on the DVDs to satisfy the S*** Demon. The only people who don't like this movie are either Catholic or stiff people who hate to laugh. Since most Catholics are both, it's not for them. Hey, the stuff in the movie may not be true, but it makes you put down your stereotypical Sunday School lessons, and become open-minded about your faith.
Great acting + Great plot = Great movie

Summary: "No Wonder He Says He Saw Jesus, Hommie's Rockin The Ganja!"
Review: In Smith's 4th masterpiece, we join Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as two fallen angels, don't even make me try to spell their character's names. These fallen angels were banashed from heaven many years ago, and ever since have been looking for a way to get back in. So, when a New Jersey church is celebrating it's 100th birthday (I believe it's 100 years) it is believed that if you go through the arches you are forgiven of all of your sins. So, Damon and Affleck believe that if they walk into the church their sins will be forgiven, they then have to cut off their wings (which makes them become human) and somehow die sinless, so they can get into heaven. However, if they successfully do this, all of existance will be unmade, because God is infallible and to prove him (it turns out to be a her in the movie) wrong would unmake everything.

So, now the last Zion, Bethany (Linda Fiorentino) is summoned to stop them from this deed, before it can take place. Bethany is completely taken by surprise when the angel of the lord tell her what she must do. She meets up with the two, so called prophits, Jay and Silent Bob by her job at the abortion clinic. They volunteer to help her, in hopes of getting some action from her later on.

The then meet up with Rufus (Chris Rock) who is the 13 Apostle. He helps inform them that the deamon Azrael (Jason Lee) and three of his minions are trying to stop them, so that Affleck and Damon can make it to the church, because Azrael wants existance to end due to his hate of living in Hell. Rufus also tell them that Jesus was black, they left him out of the Bible because he was black, the virgin Mary had children AFTER Jesus, and they had more children, until there was Bethany, who is the last Zion, who had a cancer rot away her uterous, now she is incapable of having any more kids, which is why she is so angry at God.

Later they meet with the muse Serendipity (Salma Hayek) who helps them on their quest, of sorts.

With plenty of wit, and TONS of laughs, I was glued to the TV...when I wasn't in fits of laughter on the floor. Smoth does it again bringing an already long list of taboos (gay love/sex, drugs, necrophilia, etc.) under his belt, but now he adds roligion to that list. This movie is sure to offend deeply religious people, but for people who don't mind the ocassional religious joke, this is a great addition to anyone's movie collection and a very, very funny addition at that!

Summary: Worth ten stars
Review: I grew up catholic, so i can understand where the humor comes from. While many people may find this movie offensive, I think it is one of the all time greatest comedies. George Carlin as the head of a catholic church, what could be funnier than that? The buddy christ? A S**T demon? My God, this movie is a pisser. I love the whole series but this is my favorite. A must see for fans of the series

Summary: Smith's Best
Review: I own every Kevin Smith film on Special Edition DVD, and this one is, and always will be, my favorite. It is so intelligent, so intruiging, so funny. Such good acting, and even if Alan Rickman only has four scenes, he's still hilarious. All the actors are good, and this is the most well scripted, complicated of all Smith's films. There's laughs, and laughs, and more laughs! Yes, there's some violence, but it's neccesary to advance the plot, and come on, it's mostly offscreen! Damon and Affleck are so great as angels, Salma Hayek is super sexy as the muse, Serendipity. Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes return as the always funny Jay and SIlent Bob, given their second biggest role here (the first in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back). Plus, this movie was filmed in 2:35:1, and there's more information on the side than in the previous films.

The Special Edition DVD is great, and the original DVD is horrible! Let's compare. The orignal DVD has two trailers, the movie in anamorphic widescreen, and the movie in full-screen (BOO!). The new DVD has the movie in anamorphic widescreen, a trailer, a still gallery, outtakes, easter eggs, 100 minutes of deleted scenes, and last but, CERTAINLY not least two audio commentaries, a regualar one, and a technical one, whic is (surprise) more technical.

Pick this DVD up now. In my humble opinion, if I coulonly own one Kevin Smith DVD, this would be the one. Awesome movie, great DVD!

Highley recommended

Summary: Oh COME ON!
Review: The reactions this film gets has always amused me. Devout Catholics declare it is insulting, and blasphemous. If they would simply take a minute to LISTEN to the message Kevin Smith is trying to bring forward, they would find themselves sorely mistaken. He himself was born and raised a Catholic. He knows what he's talking about. I had to laugh watching this film because I have never before seen a motion picture that dares to be this blunt. It is crude at times (Particularly where the Prophets are involved) but how many pot head post-teens aren't crude? It's REALISTIC. Everything they say in this movie is so startlingly bold, and blunt, but above all true. Religion should not be about stipulations, and restrictions. It should be about faith. As Serendipity says...
"You people don't celebrate your faith. You mourn it."

Summary: Believe It or Not, a Movie by a Dedicated Christian
Review: Prepare to be annoyed, amused and alarmed when you watch this satirical saga of an ordinary Catholic woman who gets drafted to stop two wayward angels from taking advantage of a loophole in church doctrine and messing up Life As We Know It. If you can get past the overabundant use of 4-letter words, it is a marvelous jab at those of us who like our religion sanitized. The prophets WERE annoying, the Old Testament WAS violent, and the Whole Point of faith is not the details of dogma but the faith itself. Add to this some refreshing takes on who was who in the Bible, and it's thought-provoking and funny at the same time. Lest you think that the movie was made by someone who hated the church, read the opening words and the credits carefully: they tell of someone who has really wrestled with his faith and emerged with a sense of humor and a lot of questions.

Summary: Dogma is Brilliant
Review: Dogma is one of the greatest movies of all time. Watch it. Then watch it again. Then think about it for a while. Then watch it again. You'll be happy that you did.

A majority of the people that appear to dislike this movie point out either that its slam against Catholics or its extreme use of profanity. To address the second issue, yes, Jay swears a lot. But to be honest, I have friends that swear just as much, so it's not exactly unrealistic. The movies rated R, so either go into it expecting to hear the F word thrown around a bit, or stick to Disney flicks.

As for this movie being a diatribe against Catholicism, think about it for a bit. If you removed the name Catholic, and replaced it with any other major religion, would the movie still work? Yes, it would, and that is because the movie isn't knocking Catholics (BTW, Kevin Smith is Catholic, and attends church weekly) it's talking about the concepts of organized religion, and the problems within these religion that are brought about by the imperfect nature of the humans that created them, and their inability to even consider that they might not be right.

I'm not asking you to love this movie, or to even like it. All that I'm asking is for you to actually sit down and think about what the movie may be trying to tell you about yourself, before you dismiss it out of hand and prove the movie right...

Summary: Dogma
Review: I thought Dogma was one of Kevin Smith's best as a movie and as a comedy because of how it took a jab at religion and the church and how even if God saw this movie, he'd laugh because let's say it everyone has a sense of humor.

It stars an All Star cast of Linda Fiorentino, Chris Rock, Selma Hayek, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Jeanine Garafalo, Kevin Smith himself, Jason Mewes, Jason Lee, George Carlin and Alanis Morrisette. You would think that usually, when you have that many stars, the movie isn't the same because each actor/actress is trying to steal each other's thunder, but not hear because all of them have really brought together their collective skills and made Dogma a wonderful and hilarious masterpiece.

It starts as Affleck and Damon, 2 exiled Angels from Heaven and follows them on their killing spree before they cleanse their souls by walking through the doors of a church celebrating it's Bicentennial. By them doing this, they find a hole in God's creation and by proving God wrong, all that ever existed would cease to be. It's up to Fiorentino, Smith, Mewes, Rock and Hayek to stop them no matter what!

O.k. Dogma might make a few people made because it pokes fun at religion. I have to admit it, you'd probably be more offended by the vulgar swearing before that because when it all comes down to it's just a movie and there have been comedies that have made fun of very serious things. And even so, this movie never once said that religion is bad. Again, it just pokes a little fun at it.

I would definitely get this one. Even if you're not a Kevin Smith fan, you'll still laugh at this one. And again for any of you that are very religious, you'd probably be more offended by the swearing first. Check this one out!

Summary: One of the best movies ever!
Review: This is the best Jay & Silent Bob movie ever. Two angels are banished to Wisconsin for the rest of eternity, and they find a loophole to get home. However, if they are able to follow through, the whole universe (including God and heaven) will cease to exist. It's a great movie, although it may be slightly insulting to Catholics. Other than that, it's fantastic! If you like comedy, buy this movie!
