Rating: Summary: Don't "Add to Shopping Cart" !! Review: If time is important for you, don't see this movie. Jenny, maybe you were good but the story :(. Boring movie.
Rating: Summary: The Good Girl is not as good... Review: While Jen An (Justine) gives a performance that is so different from her famous alter-ego (Rachel Greene), the storyline was not as intriguing as Adrian Lyne's Unfaithful (starring Diane Lane). It's not a surprise that Justine has to deal with the consequences of her infidelity, but the ending in the movie was just way too abrupt. Some of the deleted scenes should have made it into the final cut, especially the one where Holden reveals his decision to rob the store and his intentions behind it.That said, this is not a bad DVD to own.
Rating: Summary: The Not So Good Girl Review: The Good Girl had gotten some positive buzz as it made its theatrical run last year, so I was bit curious to see what it was all about, and if actress Jennifer Aniston could pull off a largely dramatic role..Let's just say I was surprised. Justine (Aniston) is unhappy with her life. She has a thankless husband, (John C. Reilly) and a boring job at the Retail Rodeo, at the cosmetics counter. She desperately wants a change. Enter co-worker Holden Worther (Jake Gyllenhaal), an introspective younger man, who finds himself attracted to Justine. Eventually, they fall in love, and start having an affair with each other. Holden asks her to run away with her, after he decides to steal a large sum of cash, from the store's safe. Directed by Miguel Arteta, the film boasts good performances from the cast, particularly from Aniston, who tries very hard to make you forget the Rachel character she plays on Friends. As for Jake Gyllenhaal, his work is good too, but he seems to employ the same "loner" motif that he used for Donnie Darko for this role as well. Even though the acting in the movie was solid, to be sure, none of it really "wowed" me that much. Having said that, I think that the film's biggest flaw lies in the script. Written by Mike White, the story is very predictible, and the characters are, (for the most part) as well. I could see the film's biggest twists from a mile away. Considering all the aforementioned buzz, I guess I thought it might be a better film. The DVD includes just a handfull of exrtas. The first of 2 commentary tracks with Arteta and White is pretty good The two men present the making of the film in an informative way. For her part though, Aniston's participation on the second track seemed very limited, which is a letdown, given that she plays the main character in the film. In fact, her comments are less about what it was like to play Justine, and more about her fellow actors instead-I was hoping that she would talk about the whole experience. There are 9 deleted scenes that were wisely left on the cutting room floor. As for the "don't blink or you'll miss it" alternate ending, it's so so brief, you may have to play it twice to "get it". Finally viewers get a 2 and half minute blooper reel (what?? No theatrical trailer??) that isn't all that funny. The DVD allows you to watch the film in either the widescreen or full screen. A disappointment all the way around.
Rating: Summary: A FINE FORAY INTO FLANNERY O'CONNOR TERRITORY Review: Jennifer Aniston is a wonder in Mike White's darkly funny and mildly acerbic screenplay about a 30 year old, bored Texan who sees her life evaporating before her eyes and has a fling with her co-worker at a strip mall discount mart. John C. Reilly is Aniston's pothead house-painter husband and Jake Gyllenhaal is the ultra-sensitive lover named Holden (a la Holden Caulfield). Director Miguel Arteta nails this foray that tip-toes into Flannery O'Connor territory.
Rating: Summary: The "Unfaithful" about us "poor" folk Review: First, I love Jennifer Aniston. She does a great job with a Southern accent. Here, like in "The Object of My Affection," she plays someone messing around in the wrong relationship. "Good Girl" is a drama, with some more tragic than dark humor. This is a good movie. Jennifer Aniston makes this movie; but the whole cast is good. "Unfaithful" starred Diane Lane as a rich gal cheating on her husband. "Good Girl" is about a small town store clerk who cheats on her husband. Aniston's character here is completely different than anything on "Friends."
Rating: Summary: Drying Paint Review: This is one of the worst movies I have seen in some time. Aniston does not succeed in portraying anyone but herself - she talks the same, shuffles her feet, hangs her head all in an attempt to give the image of boredom and dissatisfaction which is exactly what the viewer will get with this performance and movie. I suggest watching paint dry for better entertainment.
Rating: Summary: Don't waste your time Review: I can't believe Jennifer Aniston was in this movie. I have really enjoyed all of her previous movies. I guess she was trying to break the good girl persona. It was awful. After watching, I thought to myself, why??? I could have done so much more with my 2 hours.
Rating: Summary: Who cares? Review: Nothing about any of the characters in this film made me care what happened to any of them or why. Aniston is as flat and two-dimensional as she is in Friends, and her "Texas" accent was halfhearted at best. The only worthwhile acting job in this boring hour and a half was done by the actor who played Bubba to comic perfection, even though the character's justifications for his actions were a stretch. I sat it out, waiting and waiting for something in this film that lived up to the positive reviews, but came up with nothing. It was nothing about nothing.
Rating: Summary: Could've been Better Review: This movie was well acted with great characters. The movie isn't quite original in the fact that thses people are so ordinary..which makes it good. You should realize that these characters being the typical run of the mill makes it more believable. This story could happen to anyone in that situation. In the ways it could be better are that there are certain scenes in the movie that seem out of place or don't quite make sense. The ending is quite predictable..to break the stereotpye the ending should have been completely different.
Rating: Summary: Strong performances from Aniston & Company.... Review: Jennifer Aniston's character in THE GOOD GIRL is likely as much of an opposite of her character on Friends as we'll ever see. Aniston is obviously comfortable within the character's personality, as she is very believable and at times, drolly comical as the girl who can't get a break. Her days are a real drudge as she works the makeup counter at the local discount store in her small town. Not much happens in this town other than going shopping and going to church. It's an escape from this humdrum life that Aniston's character, Justine, wants so badly. She's married but not very happily and the events that follow are nothing you'd find in her romantic comedies. Saying that the movie is a welcome departure from roles she's taken on in the past, showing her audience she's more than capable of handling dark comedy, as well as the happy-go-lucky stuff she's been doing on Friends all these years. The other standout performance that provided huge comic relief is from Zooey Deschanel, who plays Justine's co-worker, Cheryl. Deschanel has some of the funniest moments in the film, all delivered with a deadpan style so fitting to her character's outlook on life. I really liked this film, but didn't feel great or uplifted after seeing it. Rather, I felt sorry for Justine and those family and friends in her life, who seem to attract nothing more to their lives than daily doses of misery.
