Summary: A winner from start to finish line!
Review: A comedic masterpiece!It's hard, if not downright impossible to single any one particular scene within this movie as "the" funniest. Without exception, the cast demonstrates perfect timing. Losers through and through, their hapless nature rings true. The transformation of the young girlfriend in braces during the bar scenes is amazing. Within a short amount of time, we witness a painfully funny demonstration of the deadly and infectious nature of gambling and how it invades the bloodstream. A particular treat that provides a much needed break from the action halfway through the movie (and halfway through Trotter's amazing day at the races) is his visit home to find a drunk, oblivious and resigned Teri Garr. By movie's end (and oh what an ending), every hopeless gambler out there must envy Trotter not because he's a winner, but because he has such a forgiving wife!

Summary: WHAT A HOOT!
Review: I have owned a pan&scan laserdisc of this movie for years and always "trotted" (yuk,yuk) it out for company to watch, completely confident in the knowledge that no one visiting my home had ever seen it. Everyone I've ever shown it to loved it! And now here it is in its original widescreen presentation, which looks fabulous. Dreyfuss has never been better, Robbie Coltrane is an absolute hoot, David Johansen is gloriously over-the-top, and Allen Garfield, Jennifer Tilly, Teri Garr, Michelle Phillips, Cynthia Nixon (and many recognizable others) round out one of the greatest casts of lovable losers ever. This movie is worth the price alone for the scene where Tilly delivers one of the most memorable film lines of the 80's: In excusing herself from the table in the Jockey Club, she begins to walk away from the table in that terrific, skin-tight-leave-nothing-to-the-imagination red dress. Dreyfuss's Trotter remarks quietly and admiringly to Garfield "nice legs", which she overhears, whips around and delivers a career-making line if there ever was one, "yeeeaaahhhh, they go all the way from my a** to the floor", leaving the men totally transfixed and speechless, and us, the viewers, in absolute hysterics. Marilyn Monroe never nailed a moment better! This is a great movie that has charm, comedy, wonderful performances, great direction, never a dull moment, and when you see it for the first time, you will be shaking your head along with countless others, wondering why it didn't make it at the box office. Don't miss it!

Review: This movie is one of my all-time favorite "never heard of" movies. A great cast compliments solid characters and a very funny story. I typically avoid most "professional" critics' reviews, and Maltin provides more evidence to support my practice. This film is non-stop fun from beginning to end. Review: My husband and I have owned a copy of "Let It Ride" for eleven
years. I would estimate we have watched it over a hundred times.
For anyone who loves the track this is wonderfully hilarious. The characters are timeless; from the seedy to the silly; the actors are all perfectly cast. Dreyfuss is the funniest he has
ever been, Teri Garr is priceless and David Johannson as Looney
plays a great straight man. Smaller roles round out the collec-
tion of gamblers, hitmen and barflys. The actual racing scenes
are endlessly exciting, real nailbiters. I am purchasing the next copy now. So should you!

Summary: Not in this lifetime........PERFECT!
Review: Those were the words that Jay Trotter(Dreyfus)read aloud from the Daily Racing Form about the winning chances of a horse named Charity. This is a been-there-and-you'll-laugh-yourself-silly movie if there ever was one. Go to the racetrack for a day, and you'll see every one of the characters portrayed in this movie, from Cheeseburger, the Hawaiian shirted gambler who knows nothing about handicapping and bets inside tips, to the bookie Lufkin, there collecting money from deadbeats and doctors alike. Based on the book "Good Vibes", this is a non-stop, always entertaining comedy that gives every track goer the incentive to try it one more time. Dreyfus portrays Jay Trotter, a down on his luck cab driver that has given up gambling in order to keep his perilous relationship with his wife (Terri Garr) together. His buddy Looney, also a cab driver played by David Johanssen, is prominent in this film as a born loser who records a conversation taking place in the back seat of his cab stating "The only way Charity can lose is if she's struck by lightning in the starting gate." Jennifer Tilly shows up in all her splendor and beauty as ditzy arm candy for a gambling, middle-aged, business owner who raises the price on the envelopes he sells according to the success he's had at the track that particular week. Tilly's character describes him best, "Herbie is rich." Add to the cast Michelle Phillips as a man-chasing soon to be widow, and run of luck that Trotter can't explain and you have the ingredients of a comedy that you won't soon forget. Get the video, already!

Review: Let's just put it this way. This is seriously the only movie that I am able to watch every single day of my life and it never gets old. It makes me smile when I watch it. I am just disappointed it is not on DVD. Dreyfuss is a comic genius in this movie. I don't normally like him, but he is ridiculously good in this. HIGH RECOMMENDATIONS.

Review: Before I decided to do this I tried to see if Matlin had written a review of American Beauty. If he were to give that drivel a single star I would have understood his review of Let it Ride. I loved this movie. I think whoever did the casting should have won the Academy Award permanently. A better cast could not have been assembled and the movie is a continuous delight. Funny, funny, funny. I also have watched it several times and NEVER failed to enjoy it. Rent it and then come back here and buy it. There are many, not so famous, movies like this and it is a shame that people let critics dictate what they see. Anyone ever see The Ref? Cannery Row?
