Rating: Summary: Heartwarming Review: Return to Me is a heartwarming, charming romantic comedy. One of the best in recent years. If you enjoyed "You've got Mail", you will enjoy this one. Although the story line is predictable, it will touch your heart. You will want the best for the main charaters involved.
Rating: Summary: Great entertainment Review: Very heart-warming, moving movie with a lot of humor and great dialogs. The audience even cheered and clapped! Good story and strong characters are also there, in combination with excellent actors. We had a very great evening!
Rating: Summary: A real winner Review: This is the best movie I have seen in a long time. While there are many movies I have enjoyed recently, this movie is a movie that I could see many times and not tire of it. The cast is excellent , the story line is refreshingly real , sad , funny , poignant and endearing. Best of all, it has a happy ending! In this day and age, when so many films are either violent, or vulgar, this one is warm and wonderful. It is a film to go to with someone you love. You won't regret it. It is a film I intend to buy because I will want to watch with my husband as we grow old. It is a movie that makes one appreciate the value of having a wonderful relationship with the right person, and the importance of each moment in life that we are blessed with.
Rating: Summary: Return to Me Review: This was an uplifting comedic love story that kept me thoroughly entertained. I found there to be a nice mix of humor and plot, with a fabulous diverse cast. It is a great movie that is suitable for all audiences (it's not just a chick flick).
Rating: Summary: Pure Velveeta for those who love cheesy romances Review: This is not the type of film I usually enjoy. But having seen it, I recognize that the type of person who enjoys this type of film will find it charming. It's testament to the power of that old Hollywood story the man and woman who overcome some obstacle to their romance, end up together, and along the way, enjoy a few laughs. As is often the case with these types of films, the individual performances themselves are nothing to speak of. David Duchovny, when he is not Fox Mulder, is pretty wooden. This is not an actor of incredible dynamic range. He and Minnie Driver really don't achieve any chemistry on screen. As is common in these films, Duchovny has a slick bachelor buddy who tries to coax him back into the dating scene after Duchovny's wife dies (thankfully her accident is handled tastefully offscreen). And Minnie Driver has Bonnie Hunt reprising her role from Jerry Maguire as the cautious girlfriend who just wants Minnie Driver to find a nice guy, darn it. Carol Connor plays Minnie's dad with an Irish accent so bad it's humorous as it fades in and out. He and his gang of old pals sit around debating the merits of old school crooners like Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr. They are like whoopee cushions, there to furnish cheap laughs. So is Jim Belushi, who surfaces here, once again, as a clown. The whole somehow ends up being more than the sum of its parts. There are just enough humorous lines of dialogue (they all sound like something Bonnie Hunt would say) to keep the audience from having to suffer through too many dead periods. A young cynical audience will tear this film apart. This is the type of film where a guy and girl go on a date and the girl gets ice cream on the guys nose and they both start cracking up. An older audience or anyone who finds that type of thing cute will enjoy this film. I myself am not one of those people.
Rating: Summary: great cast shines over worn path of love lost and found Review: If you like some of your films to be of the romantic type, then "Return To Me" should leave you with a warm and fuzzy "wasn't that nice" feeling. The cast is extremely likeable, and in fact, this is the strongest part of the film, its prime selling point. The story itself travels a well worn path (a bit ragged by now) and isn't helped by the spaghetti music it rides on. Here again (note the Amazon related products) we have death interrupting a happy marriage, but instead of having the departed partner waylay another person's body, this spirit hitch hikes in on a heart transplant, and only provides warm feelings to get the new body back to the old love. You will probably have this all down pat by the time the theme song ("Return To Me") plays for the second time in the movie's first 15 minutes. But don't give up here. Despite a slow start and a few too many tired plot devices, the film has a wonderful cast and the interaction between them is the real draw, well worth the silly parts. David Duchovny plays the widower, Minnie Driver the recipient of his wife's heart, and the new attraction of his own. With no parents, Minnie has two well-drawn surrogate families one of which is that of her girlhood friend (Bonnie Hunt) and the highschool sweetheart that she married (James Belushi)and of course the kids. The other is the raucous quartet of old Irish and Italian men that run and work in the restaurant they own (O'Reilleys Italian Restaurant) (Carroll O'Connor,Robert Loggia, to name two) O'Conner playing Driver's doting grandpa. The love and chaos in the first family and the camaraderie amongs the men of the other is what is so compelling. Yes, the lines can be quite funny but the scenes themselves are complete and well timed to draw out the personalities and the laughs, as much from the humanity of the characters as from the lines they speak. It is humor that doesn't tell as well as it shows, but try to imagine four, old, fat men trying to get quickly out of a room with two of them getting stuck in the door. It could be silly, it is of course, but here, done well, it works nicely. Oddly enough, the movie is also a good spokesman for the organ donor card. One doesn't look for deep human trauma and conflict in a romantic comedy, but here we get a brief glimpse at the the loss of one party, and his suffering, paired with the breathless and tearful hope of salvation through transplant, of the other party and suddenly one's concerns about fate and possible abuse of the system seem inadequate when put along side the visible power of life such a gift (out of tragedy) can create. At the end, like a good book, you leave as if leaving a new town you've vacationed in, and the new friends you've made there; smiling but wishing you could stay on with them. Yea, cinema lite and not quite "Moonstruck" either, but the people...the people here! That's what stands out in this film.
Rating: Summary: Return to Me Review: Despite the movie plot being predictable, this was a well execuited movie that was compelling, interesting, and worth seeing. This is definitely a good movie to see with someone you care about.
Rating: Summary: My Heart Will Never Stop Beating For You! Review: "Return To Me" is a delightful film. The deep love that the couple feels for each other in the beginning is so real, so typical. They share a deep love. But then the twists begin. This movie is not only romantic and comedic, it is wonderfully unpredictable. As in most romantic comedies, love (or the struggle of love) is the "heart" of the film. However, this filmmaker uses the heart as the organ of life to share with another. And as that heart keeps beating in another, it beats for our hero! What a great story. Love prevails no matter what! It's beautiful! Thanks for the preview, Amazon.com! It proved to be quite an enjoyable evening for my daughter and myself!
Rating: Summary: Return to Me Review: The casting of old men, including Carroll O'Connor, was wonderful... The movie was a total chick flick, predictable and touching. I enjoyed it, but didn't think about it after I left the theater. Best part - there were many good laughs.
Rating: Summary: Touching and Funny Review: I was pleasantly suprised at how good this film is. Excellent scripting that is funny and intelligent. Romatic and touching without being sappy. Good performances by both Duchovny and Driver. The story is somewhat predictable but that doesn't detract from the enjoyment of the movie.
