Summary: Outstandingly funny!!!
Review: Leary, Spacey and Davis have great chemistry, which takes the comical dialog to histerical levels. Their comedic timing is flawless. Everytime I see this movie I find something new to laugh at. It is definately one of Spacey's funniest roles. He and Judy Davis do superb jobs at keeping up with Leary, if not surpassing him. I definately think that anyone looking for a good movie should try this one.

Summary: One of Kevin Spacey's forgotten gems!!
Review: Kevin wasn't publically known in this film, but it's wonderfully acted, and Judy Davis is sooooo funny.

Summary: Kevin Spacey is great in comedy!
Review: I just loved this film! It was funny and certainly kept your interest throughout. Kevin's lines were great; he also looked great. Everyone knows how great an actor he is, so I don't have to go into that. I think it would be fun to see him in more comedies; it suits him also. Denis Leary was very good; in fact, the entire cast was. If you want to have a good laugh and enjoy yourself, purchase this VHS!

Summary: Brilliantly Made and a Great Time!
Review: A truly entertaining film that moves the audience from laughter to somberity. The three main characters interact with such tenacious wit and inseperable personalites. Each compliments the others perfectly! A brilliant performance by Kevin Spacey and a plot made to be a winner. Throughout the whole movie, degrees of truth are revealed and bonds become tighter while still allowing for a liberal dose of hysterics. "Great, I beat up Santa Clause." A must see.

Summary: "The Ref" is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen!
Review: The first time I saw "The Ref" I couldn't stop laughing. The second time I saw it I laughed even more. The third time I saw was when I laughed the most. Get the picture? With the great permormance by Dennis Leary made the movie great. Everyone else in it, Kevin Spacey, Judy Davis, Christine Buranski, and Glynis Johns, gave the performances of their lives. Every line in the movie was histerrical. The timing of the cast members was incredible. If you are looking for a movie to enjoy this Christmas, "The Ref" is the best one I can recommend you(and that's coming from someone who watches movies all the time).

Summary: This movie gets funnier everytime I see it.
Review: This movie is unusual, but very funny. It is the story of an extremely dysfunctional family, headed by Kevin Spacey and Judy Davis. A botched burglary forces them into the company of Denis Leary. These three are excellent. As the movie progresses we meet more of the family and find out why they are the people they have become. Wonderful scenes when the family exchanges Christmas presents.

Summary: Holiday Hell in Connecticut
Review: This film, while not the greatest of holiday fare, is an above average film. The plot of a modern-day suburban Bickerson couple being held hostage in their own home has hilarious moments, with Denis Leary showing a brilliant sense of timing. Judy Davis is sharp and caustic, but still tosses some real zingers. Kevin Spacey, not nearly well known enough for his comedy, is simply terrific. While the end becomes kind of a Hollywood formula, the evolution of the relationship between Davis & Spacey is very nice and they play off each other well. This is definitely not "It's a Wonderful Life," but its probably more representative of the disfunctional family in all of us....

Summary: Buy This Movie!!!!
Review: I have a toddler son and very little time to sit down and watch an entire movie. EXCEPT for The Ref. TBS shows this movie a lot, for which I am eternally grateful. Even with the "choice" language suctioned out, I still have to put my head between my knees to keep from passing out due to laughter everytime I see this movie. This movie is the film equivelant of a good shot of Bushmill's whiskey: strong and dry, the humor evaporates on your tongue and leaves you wanting more. Denis Leary is a cat burglar who kidnaps a bickering couple (Kevin Spacey and Judi Davis) to help him escape the cops after a bungled burglary. Little does he know that he has the couple from hell as his hostages... Other reviewers have done a great job explaining the plot, so I won't repeat. This could have easily veered off into stale stereotypes that would bring enough chuckles to not be a complete disaster, but not the home run that it is. Leary, Spacey, Davis, etc. (not to mention Ted Demme, the director), however, conspire to make this a slyly intelligent comedy, with subtle hilarious comments on marriage, in-laws, suburbia, parenthood, good and evil, and all the other grown-up dilemmas that most everyone deals with. I own approximately 5 videos of my own (3 of them are workout videos), and would gladly pay full price to replace my copy of The Ref if need be. This movie is inexplicably not on most reviewer's "Best of..." lists for reasons that escape me. Shame on them! Again, I cannot urge you strongly enough to buy this video. Without a doubt, this is Denis Leary's finest hour as a comedic actor.

Summary: My Favorite Christmas Movie
Review: Okay: if the "eff" word offends you, don't buy this video. However, if you grew up in a dysfunctional family in which your parents argued about absolutely anything while you were required to cheer, you'll love this comic holiday tale of a burglar who wanted simply to make his last heist and retire to the islands. Unfortunately, he's attacked by the dog Cannibal; his alcoholic partner deserts him; and he kidnaps a couple who resembles his own parents: two chronic arguers who would pick at each other at the very edge of doom. My mom was obsessed with certain Scandinavian traditions, and when the comedy cuts to a Swedish sit-down feast during which all participants wear garlands of candles and eat traditional Swedish food, I practically go into cardiac arrest. This is not only one of the funniest films ever made, but also it is an accurate portrayal of the nightmare which Christmas becomes for so many middle-class families. Dennis Leary, Kevin Spacey, and Judy Davis are brilliant beyond belief in their rapid-fire deliveries of sadistic sarcasm. Buy it; savor it. Ho ho ho!
