Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Summary: The one and true Buffy!
Review: I can't really say it's better than the show, for I haven't watched the show. The only info I've heard is from friends and family. I can tell you, without a doubt, that I like Kristy Swanson more than Sarah Gellar. Whenever I hear the name Buffy, I think of Kristy. I like Sarah Gellar in many of her movies, but she just isn't Buffy to me. I would watch a show if someone paid/lend for it, because I can't get TV reception. But I don't buy stuff I'm unfamiliar with, especially when it's fifty dollars. And that's all I've got to say about that.

Summary: Not great but not bad
Review: I hated this flick when I first saw it-the guy from 90210 was in it fer crying out loud. It kind of grew on me over time though. Rumor has it that Joss Whedon hated it and indeed the TV show is far superior so if you've been boycotting it because of this movie then it's ok-you can give in and not feel shame. It was some of the best TV of the late 90's and 2000's.

But back to the original. This is an ok girl power action flick. There are some cool training scenes midway through between Donald Sutherland and Kristy Swanson, she deals wittily with her sexist boyfriend and her vapid friends, and PeeWee Herman is just brilliant as the master vamp's lackey. Ditto Donald Sutherland as her watcher (although they don't use the term until the TV show.) What's not so good is--well Luke Perry you are no Xander. And the final showdown with Rutger Hauer will cause you to puzzle over how exactly he came to defeat any of the previous slayers. Or anyone for that matter. Look for Hillary Swank and Natasha Wagner in small roles.

Review: I have had this movie for years and just watched it again last Sunday. I think its funny and campy the way it is supposed to be. Sure it doesn't compare to the TV show but its still fun. I love Kristy Swanson. She was the perfect answer to the 80's backlash. She wouldn't have worked in the more serious TV show (besides I could never live without Sarah Michelle's portrayal) but I adore her none the less. And surprisngly, Buffy and Pike (Luke Perry) were wonderful together. I want to see more Buffy stuff. BUFFY FOREVER!

Summary: Perry shines in first Role
Review: I have never been a huge fan of Luke Perry, but his quirky gestures and charming lines promote a positive contribution to the film. Perry plays Pike, a rebel who is yearning to make a life for himself outside of L.A.
This is halted when he learns that the town is being taken over by blood suckers from the grave. I think this film was a great role for Perry, but it most certainly did not help his career. But isn't Pike a great character name?

Review: I've seen the movie in Italian, few years ago. It was nice and funny. Not much coherent, but ... who cares?
I cannot say I love this movie, but sometime I like watch it and some of the jokes are great!

Summary: Not as Good, But Still Original
Review: It's easy to bag out Kristy Swanson in the role of Buffy after many years of watching Sarah M Gellar, but you have to admit that the girl had talent, looks & the physical fittness to make a good slayer.
Many of the reviews have bagged out this film in relation to the series, however it did lay the ground work for the story and convince a network to green light the series which has made them millions.
The film itself has some good moments and a sense of humour.
If you are a die hard fan you should check it out simply to have the story which leads into the pilot episode and it wouldn't hurt to check out creepy old Don Sutherland as a watcher.
The film does have a simple finale, but on the bright side it comes to an end, unlike many of the open doors the series leaves.
Another great aspect is the cover of Oingo Boingo's 'We close our eyes', which The Bangles lead singer Susanna Hoffs does for the closing credits (unfortunately spoken over however).

Summary: Buffy's my girl
Review: its not my favorite movie and it has some cheesy one liners and character holes but you gotta love the Buffy. Sarah Michelle Gellar is better in the TV series, but everyone knows that. Kristy Swanson is perfect as the bouncy blonde from Cali and Donald Sutherland plays Merrick well. Ruter Hauer is gay as The Master and Paul Reubens(PeeWee Herman) is hilarious. Luke Perry is great as Pike too. its playful and witty and full of sashy girls and some messed up vampires. It was written by Joss Whedon but he should of directed it and it would of been a whole lot better. lots of celebs you didnt know where in here pop up, like Ben Affleck(look quick for him as a baskeball player) also look quick for Ricki Lake. David Arquette, Thomas Jane, Stephen Root, Hilary Swank, Candy Clark and Natasha Gregson Wagner. if you look on the back of the box you'll see a redhaired kid vampire with glasses and a jockey, thats Seth Green, hes not in the movie and that part was supposed to bein there but they cut it out

Summary: Good but the show is superior!
Review: Joss Whedon wasn't too happy with this movie, wasn't exactly his vision come to life. That's the big reason there's a show now and also the big reason it's a hit because it's just the way he wanted it. The show has action, comedy, horror and drama. This movie is just very goofy and lacks the brain the show has. It lacks all the characters from the show such as Giles, Willow, Xander, Angel and Spike. However that's because this is before Buffy went to Sunnydale. She learns that she's the chosen Vampire Slayer by her Watcher, who's well played by Donald Sutherland.

Luke Perry (90210) is also good as Pike, Buffy's potential boyfriend who learns there's vampires in their town when his best friend played by David Arquette (Scream) gets turned into one. Paul Reubens (Pee Herman) plays the main vampire henchmen to the lead vampire Rutger Haurer (Blade Runner). Now they're sort of the problem with the movie, Reubens death scene is horrible yet laughable at the same time. Loved Rutger is Blade Runner and even think he should of been nominated, too bad he's actually making worse movies than this now, lol. His whole woredrobe is corny in this and he just isn't scary, if this was a bit darker and he wasn't out for laughs he could of been great.

Well, why do I like this movie at all ? Would have to be because of Kristy Swanson (Dude Where's my Car) as Buffy. She's super cute and funny, not as good of an actor as Sarah but she still carries the movie well. It's shame I hear Sarah Michelle Gellar doesn't want to do a movie after this season is most likely the last. I think they should, to have Buffy have to team up with Angel "maybe Riley too, lol", to take on an ultimate villain.

Summary: In the beginning, there was Buffy the camp comedy classic
Review: Pity poor Buffy (Kristy Swanson). She just wants to enjoy her life as a cheerleader/Valley girl when some scruffy old guy (Donald Sutherland) shows up and tells her she is "the Chosen One." You cannot believe how being a Vampire Slayer puts a crimp in a young girl's lifestyle. But when vampires (Rutger Hauer & Paul Reubens) are snacking on your classmates, what's a girl to do but grab some stakes and get down to some serious slaying. Fortunately, there is a cute guy (Luke Perry) as a bonus.

For fans of the hit television series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," the original movie is certainly a mixed bag. The strengths of the film come from Joss Whedon's script, which takes the ...idea of the blonde bimbo being chased by the monster and reverses it so that she end's up kicking the monster's butt. The weaknesses of the film come from director Fran Rubel Kuzui, who plays the whole thing for camp, personified by Paul Reubens over the top turn as "Lefty" and his agonizingly long death scene. But if you listen past the deliver to the actual lines, you can clearly find the foundation for the Buffy character on television.

Donald Sutherland lends a certain amount of weight to the proceedings as Buffy's Watcher, but Rutger Hauer's considerable presence is lost in his campy Vampire King. What looks the most out of place is the fighting style of Kristy Swanson as Buffy, which combines martial arts with gymnastics and cheerleading, which, again, fits more into the camp style of the film. Ultimately the direction overwhelms the promise of the script and we are left with basically a one-joke film that does not get too far off the ground. But if you compare this to the pilot for the television series, you certainly get a better feel for how Joss Whedon refined his vision of the Slayer.

I didnt even get into the series itself until its sixth year. I remembered commercials from the movie and, even while watching it, i could pick some of those spots out. Obviously the commercial worked on me. The movie itself? Eh...?

There is a lot of good campy fun to be had here. But thats the level this movie maintains. It gets comfortable not taking itself seriously and doesnt strive to be more than that. Shall we discuss the REST of this convoluted mess? Lets see the action is mostly silly. The music (when there is any) gets so muted that it doesnt help effect the mood at all. Joss couldnt make up his mind whether this was an action, romatic, or comedy film and it doesnt do jsutice to ANY of the genres like the television series did.

There is some nice writting by Joss in ceritan spots with some of his jokes. Those moments were highly appreciated and shined above the rest. That witty dialoge alone wouldve gotten this movie a two star rating from me. The only reason i gave it a three star was that it DID start the franchise that i love so much and it was interesting to see how it all started.

MUCH different from the show itself in that the show is not crap as this mostly is. But the show wouldnt be here without this movie so i have to give it that small slice of respect. No more though, it doesnt deserve to be greedy.
