Summary: Oh Well!
Review: This was the most disappointing musical I've seen in my lifetime.

Summary: If you liked this movie, you are a bad person.
Review: All kidding aside, this is a bad film.

I'm all for progressive filmmaking. I think people ought to try to do something new as often as possible (both in life and art.) And post-modernism is a grand and beautiful new (at least to the general population) medium to explore.

And Baz Luhrman is terrible at it. He takes all of the thoughtfulness out of it, and instead adds another level of sound and fury, signifying less than less than less than nothing.

I am aware that a film like this really is about the spectacle, and not about character and nuance and blah blah blah. But still. When I was 11, my older brother and I made a spoof of Oprah (titled Poperah, and starring the Pontiff). The acting of my ametuer project was head and shoulders above that of Moulin Rouge.

As far as I can tell, Luhrmans only talent is taking good (sometimes great) actors, and turning them temporarily into cardboard cutouts in flashy clothes. Leonardo Dicaprio in Romeo and Juliet, and Ewan Macgregor and Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge. He's like some Nefarious Film Sorcerer, traveling the land, poisoning the minds of the youth.

Thank you, that is all.

Summary: It Was Okay
Review: I liked it but then I didnt like it. I think the problem is that I saw Chicago before I saw this & it blew me away! I expected more from Moulin Rouge then it was. I still thought it ws good. It made me laugh & it made me cry. I love that one guy i forget his name but he has like a speech problem! He is so cool! Anyways Chicago is a much better musical than this, and if you want to see a classic musical see Chicago not Moulin Rouge

Summary: WONDERFUL MOVIE
Review: This movie is the best movie in the world!!!!
I don't get the people who say they didn't like it; but wait, yes I do--they don't have the imagination and creativy to understand it!!! If you din't like this movie, then why are you taking your oh-so "valuable time" to review?
I'll tell your the real truth about this movie, your first-timers, considering the fact that these critics didn't give you ANY reason why "they thought this movie was horrible':
Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor are absolutely DAZZLING as the two star-crossed lovers of the film. They are believeable and wonderful. Not of you critics could even wish to be as talented as this two amazing actors. Nicole and Ewan's voices are charming to listen to. (This film was NOT A VOICE-OVER, while Chicago[that moulin rouge wannabe] was.) and the dance sequences are a delight to watch. Also, this soundtrack was great. Everyone knows these songs, so of course you weren't sitting there praying for them to hurry up and stop singing, because you could sing along.
The fact is, the only reason Chicago was made, was the fact that Moulin Rouge did so well at the box-office. Why don't you critics think about that and in the process--why don't you stop raining on a GREAT MOVIE!
People who didn't like this need a hobby or something, because you are too boring to watch this Spectular film!

Summary: Ambitious and different
Review: This movie is very ambitious, but that isn't always a good thing, like a rival politician that has different views. Every frame of film is lush and electrified, every sound edit larger then life. A true musical, though I was not aware of this when my wife purchased it. It shows elements of Cabaret and Rocky Horror and its very own taste of bizarre. The plot is simple enough underneath it all as most musicals are, ala any later Elvis movie, but it proved to me to be a tough pill to swallow. It is like watching "The Wall" by Pink Floyd but wanting something lighter. It is a larger than life experience that you will love or hate, and that says something about it. For me personally it was to convoluted and lost in its excess, but I could see that this could be someone's favorite movie that they would defend with very good reason. It definitely is cinematic art, you just got to ask yourself what mood you are in before you watch it.

Summary: gOoD
Review: I thought this was and excellent movie! I suggest that you watch it with a friend & not alone. My friends & I cried & cried. As my friend said "Its so beautiful yet so horrible" Horrible meaning a sad ending. I also never knew that Nicole Kidman could sing & she sang pretty well. Ewan McGregor is ver hot in this movie. I thought parts of it were funny too. Like the begining when the man falls through the ceiling & when The Duke & Harold sing Like A Virgin. All in all this is a pretty good movie

Summary: A Great DVD of a Great Movie
Review: This is one of my all time favorite movies. It takes some an otherwise standard plot that we can relate to (not that we've experienced, but that we can relate to) and entwines it with great characters and songs that we all know and love, and the result is one fantastic movie.
Nearly everyone I talk to thinks this is one of the greatest movies they have ever seen; when favorite movies are brought up, this one always comes up quickly. Few movies can make you laugh and cry, or if you don't cry, at least feel for the characters.
The first time you see this movie will be the best, but I guarantee you, this is one to watch again and again!
Okay, now the special fatures. They tell you alot about the movie, and are extremely in depth. If you're into that stuff, this edition is the one for you. If all you care about is the movie (understandable) then go for the one disc verson.

Summary: Probably the best modern musical
Review: I thought it odd at first to anachronistically use all those modern songs and yet it works, and quite well too. It's funny, campy, romantic, dramatic, sad all rolled up into one. The extras on the DVD are nice too. This film is one of my all-time favorites, if you missed it in the theater, get it on DVD!

Summary: Overrated
Review: I had this movie on DVD for ages, but never gotten around to watching it. When my friend came over on Friday night, she decided it was time we both finally saw it. What a dissapointment.

After hearing so much about this movie, I expected much more. Even if I had heard nothing of this movie, I would have found it bad.

While both actors are beautiful, that is not enough to make a good movie for me. Some of the songs were good, yes. But I don't buy the idea of their ove. Christian (Ewan) is in love with the idea of love; then, he sees her, the most beautiful woman in the Moulin Rouge, and, surprise surprise, falls in love. She mistakes him for a Duke, he sings her "Your Song", and she falls in love. He comes back later, they kiss, they're so in love. The movie continues to show us the couple making out and declaring their love for each other, but when did their love devolpe? Call me unromantic, but I don't buy their "love at first sight" exusce. Love does not stand on looks alone. And Satine's sickness seems like a lame exucse for more drama.

As for the music, while I understand it was meant to be deep how there's music from the 1990's in a movie taking place in the 1900's, again, I don't buy it. To me, it just seemed out-of-place. Come on, was it really that hard to find a soundtrack for this film?
