Rating: Summary: the rating is for the dvd not the show Review: I bought this dvd and the audio doesn't match the visual. You can hear the characters start to talk seconds before their lips start to move, and their lips move seconds after the talking stops. This is very annoying. It is also anoying during the talking- the audio and visual are so out of sync it's like the talking is coming from the tv and the characters are just moving their lips- as if the shows being narratored instead of acted out. Now this was one dvd player (in my room), I tried another (in our family room), and it was alot better- still a little off, but bareable- unlike the first dvd player. However, since I like watching All in the family at night before bed in my room I returned the dvd. I returned my dvd and got another one in another store- it was the same thing. So, I returned that one too. So, if you have a VERY good dvd player, maybe you won't have a problem with this dvd. But, if you just have a good player, I would recommend getting this show in vhs (unless they re-issue this dvd after fixing the problem). Which I hope they do.
Rating: Summary: Some good, and some not so good. Review: I have to give this set a split review. To do otherwise would be unfair.First the material itself: All In The Family, as you probably already know, was one of the greatest television shows ever. With simple architypal characters, the producers give us a lens to focus in on issues of the day. The shows themselves are funny. Carroll O'Connor was a top rate performer (I find it really interesting that he was an English teacher before he went on to butcher the language as Archie). Jean Stapleton, Rob Reiner and Sally Struthers are perfect as supporting characters. This season received seven Emmy awards, including awards for O'Connor and Stapleton. Classic episodes in this season include apparences by Edith's cousin Maude (Beatrice Arthur) and others. Classic bits include Edith's accident with a can of cling peaches in heavy syrup, Archie appearing on Walter Cronkite's newscast only to find out that his television set is busted (and his pleading with an Orthodox Jewish television repairman to fix the set even though it's a Friday night and he can't work because it's the Sabbath!), Archie getting stuck in an elevator with an African-American and a Hispanic couple (who's wife is about to give birth in the elevator) and Edith's going through menopause. This was the season that really put All in the Family on the televison map. Now the bad news. First of all, there are no extras at all. But that's not so bad. The season sets of M*A*S*H have no extras too, but I can live with that. But at least the season sets of M*A*S*H have chapter stops in the episodes. In the AITF set, however, there are no stops at all (not even for the opening and closing credits). If you want to go to a specific spot in the episode, you have to fast forward all the way there. You can't even just skip the opening credits, you have to fast forward through "Those Were The Days." At the very least, a chapter stop after the opening credits would have been helpful. It's clear that whoever designed this set did not give much thought to how it would be viewed. Hopefully, they'll get it right for season three. In addition, I've also noticed some glitches when the episodes are watched. Nothing that made the episode unwatchable, but nonetheless, the glitches were noticable. So, content-wise, I give this DVD set 5 stars. Techincal-wise, it only rates 1 star. But if you're a true AITF fan, go for it.
Rating: Summary: Great series, but a lemon dvd Review: I really love the series and I now own both the first and second season. The episodes on the disk are great except for one issue. On the third disk I am unable to navigate the menu to watch the last four episodes. It locks up my DVD player. I am going to return this disk hopefully I just got a lemon and they did make this mistake on all the millions of disks they distributed. I would suggest this movie if you are a fan and enjoy the landmark making comedy that made this show famous. However if you run into the same issue I did now you know you are not the only one. Hopefully they will speed up the production of the remaining seasons.
Rating: Summary: BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR YEARS Review: I was wondering when they were going to come out with something like this. I always knew that this type of product will go over real good, I would like to see all seasons of this program get put on VHS and DVD's.
Rating: Summary: a classic and timeless Review: imnot much on words but all in the family season one and two both of which i have on dvd is a timeless comedy and well worth buying on dvd trust me you wont be dissapointed
Rating: Summary: The Bunkers start fresh. Review: It's fall 1971 and the Bunkers and the Stivics begin the first full season of All in the Family. It premiered January 12,1971 as a midseason replacement for another show. The Beverly Hillbillies fell out of the Top 10 and in came All in the Family. Here we see as the Bunkers' neighbors Louise and Lionel Jefferson. George was not yet seen at this time but his brother Henry was. Archie and Mike are still at each others' throats with their political viewpoints and racial viewpoints. Rob Reiner was 26 years old, sporting only a moustache and either still had hair or wearing a rug.
Rating: Summary: Great Collection- Crappy Quality Review: It's not the show itself...I LOVE the show. All In The Family is a classic! But the quality, it's not so good. For a DVD release- this looks like garbage. If I taped an episode of All In The Family off of television it would look just the same as what's on these DVDs. Not happy.
Rating: Summary: MAKE A STAND COLUMBIA CONSIDERING DISCONTINUING SEASON DVD's Review: Just wanted to let everyone know that I heard a rumor that Columbia Tri-Star was considering "ditching" this series due to "poor sales" I want to encourage everyone to write Columbia Tri-Star to NOT do this and do whatever nesacary to convince them that we want to see the continuing release of All in the Family all the way through season 9 and even more frequent releases than they are now. Thanks
