Rating: Summary: A Must Have Review: If you sail, or dream of sailing, or just want to put yourself in Paradise for a moment, get this movie. After the 5th viewing or so, just turn off the sound and put on some Jimmy Buffett and let this DVD be your favorite backround art!
Rating: Summary: Captain Ron! You're a career killer! Review: I love anything Hollywood throws my way, and in my mind, Jim Belushi = Grade A movie! Move over Citizen Kane, the Belush is the king of Hollywood! That said, I think Jim Belushi could have made Captain Ron much, much better. As it stands, I've taken bowel movements more satisfying than this film.
Rating: Summary: Pure Simple Enjoyment for the Whole Family (over 13) Review: I love this movie. It has great lines, many of which are subtle and especially effective when coupled with the hilarious facial expressions. I have a high-stress job and this fun bit of escapism is easy to watch and a consistent laugh - which is a good thing. I recommend it to my friends.
Rating: Summary: ... of course I beleive in Jesus, that helps. Review: This is one of the all time classics. I have watched this movie over 50 times and am glad it has finally come out on DVD. There are so many lines in this movie, the first 20 times you watch it you will pick up something new. Kurt Russell at his best.
Rating: Summary: Just a fun adventure at sea Review: Sometimes you just want to watch a fun, no-brainer-of-a-film, and that's what Captain Ron is...FUN! Won't win any awards for great writing or acting, but's it's a solidly enjoyable movie that's in the same vein as Six Days, Seven Nights (Harrison Ford) with a little Nate and Hayes (Tommmy Lee Jones) to boot.Has some brief rear nudity and some scarce swearing (too bad, since it would've gone over better with families if those two VERY BRIEF elements had been cut) but it's all pretty harmless. Not many people like this film, but I do. Definitely not my favorite seagoing film, but fun. Other ocean movies I recommend are: Nate and Hayes, Jaws, Dead Calm, Wind, Deep Rising, Cutthroat Island, The Deep...
Rating: Summary: This DVD runs aground Review: This DVD stinks. You would think after 10 years they could come up with at least a couple of more things to put on the DVD. There is the movie, scene selections, and that's it! Not even the trailer is on this DVD, which is interesting. I lived in Malaysia for a while (I was living on sailboats at the time :) and I rented a movie there that had a trailer for Captain Ron. Of the 4 scenes that were in that trailer 3 of them were not in the VHS version of Captain Ron that I bought about 8 years ago, and they are not in this DVD version either. Were they in the movie when it was in the theaters? This DVD fails to answer the burning question: What happened to the dinghy?? It's a great movie -- one of my favorites -- but I was pretty disappointed by this DVD.
Rating: Summary: Finally! On DVD! Review: I've waited for a DVD of Captain Ron now for 5 years! This is by far my favorite movie of all time, and I have watched it around 200 times. A few friends of mine and I have even set up an informal "Captain Ron Fan Club!" that gets together every friday night to watch this classic. Lines like, "There's gorrilas in these woods boss!", and "A ship is like a woman, responds to touch...." can be used over and over in your day to day life... haha Greatest movie of all time, now the question is -- WHEN IS THE SEQUE?
Rating: Summary: Simply Irresistable Review: After having worn down my VHS version until it turned black and white, and in the face of my useless email campaign to the producer of Captain Ron to turn it into a DVD, my only regret is that I did not preorder the DVD and have it the first weekend. This movie is simply the best movie in history, next to Vegas Vacation.
Rating: Summary: Very funny comedy... Review: Kurt Russel and Martin short are superb in this wonderful comedy. The rest of the cast is very good. I highly recommend this movie. The person mentioning "mental defectives" below must be one.
Rating: Summary: That's okay, Boss, it could happen to anyone! Review: Even Captain Ron! Finally, on DVD!!! This is my family's favorite movie. We know all the lines and recite them along with the movie, and we still laugh so hard it hurts. Plus, the wisdom of Captain Ron helps bring humor into MANY real-life events. Something goes wrong at work? Just say, "That's okay, Boss, it could happen to anyone" and make everyone else wonder why you're smirking. Having trouble merging onto the freeway? Just say, "They'll get out of the way, they always do. Learned that driving the Saratoga." MUST HAVE DVD!!! CAN'T WAIT!!! Planning to buy several copies of the DVD. (rating the VHS version) (FYI, boaters, especially sailors, will probably find this movie more funny than land-lubbers.)
