Rating: Summary: CANDY'S BEST Review: THIS IS TRULY CANDY'S BEST. I HOPE THAT THEY PLACE THIS MOVIE ONTO DVD SOON FOR I AM WEARING OUT THE VHS VERSION. IT IS A GOOD OLD FAMILY FLICK. IF YOU LIKED NATIONAL LAMPOONS VACATION THEN YOU WILL LOVE THIS LITTLE TREASURE. 5 STARS NO DOUBT ABOUT IT
Rating: Summary: Summer Rental. Review: This movie was so funny! This was John Candy's first leading role was in this film by Carl Reiner, in which the comic actor played a stressed-out air traffic controller who takes his family on a Florida vacation and has to deal with arrogant, rich jerks. Candy is good in what is almost a straight part and Reiner keeps the tone in check so his star has an opportunity to show more than one dimension. Summer Rental is great, but it could still be much better. It is so funny, and all the jokes work, and his daughter in this movie is so HOT! You must see this movie. John Candy's just pure funny, an it...that he isn't with us anymore. Oh well at least Jim Carrey is still around.
Rating: Summary: Hilarious! A Candy Classic Review: This movie was so funny, I laughed at things that weren't meant to be laughed at. Yorku, a cook for Scully is so gross hes funny, he can play a mean Casio keyboard. I love when he threatens the guy who's watching the Smurfs. It's a true classic, from a comic genius. Buy it today!
Rating: Summary: Solid Family Movie Review: When I was growing up, I remember I loved this movie. I watched it every time HBO reran it (which used to seem like every day). I have probably seen this movie 3o times in my life.
Anyways, I finally bought it, to add to my DVD collection, and watched it today for the first time in at least 5 years.
It's still a very solid movie. A movie you can definitely sit down and enjoy w/the whole family. Nevertheless, it's definitely not as good as I remembered it, and not as funny as a lot of John Candy's other films.
Two of my favorite John Candy films are "The Great Outdoors," and "Uncle Buck." (I don't count National Lampoons Vacation as a John Candy film, though that was also great.) Summer Rental is definitely on that 2nd tier of Candy films, w/"Armed and Dangerous," and "Who's Harry Crumb."
I wouldn't put it in the same class as "The Great Outdoors," "Plains, Trains and Automobiles", or "Uncle Buck." It is still worth seeing though.
I would give this movie a B-, C+. Definitely entertaining, worth owning, but I would recommend "One Crazy Summer" over this film.
Rating: Summary: Great little flick! Review: Wow, I can't believe that only 4 people reviewed this movie so far. For some reason, this movie is sadly overlooked which is too bad because it's John Candy's best film. It's just a tad corny but hey... it was the 80's (the era of The Breakfast Club and Lucas). Anyone who's been on vacation at a beach can relate to Candy's problems. From getting VERY bad sunburn to getting a dump for a summer house; from getting a cast on your broken leg to meeting a really rude local. It's a great family film and will make you giggle alot and never goes on for more than it actually has to.
