Rating: Summary: The Greatest Vacation Of All Review: By now, we all know the premise of these Griswald family adventures. Dad Clark(Chevy Chase) takes his family on a family vacation to fictional amusement park Wally World. The travel there is dampered by one horrible accident after another. When they finally reach the park, well, it doesn't get any better. This is still the best of the series(Christmas Vacation)comes in second. This film, 18 years later, is still fresh and extremely funny. This film also featured the best portrayals and actors to do Rusty and Audrey. Randy Quaid, as Cousin Eddie, has a hilarious, but all too brief, appearence in this film. Thank god this hysterical character was given more time in "Christmas". John Candy appears in a funny cameo as well. The classic theme song was done by Lindsey Buckingham. The opening bars of the song are classic and instantly recognizable. This was Chevy Chase at his funniest best. He has never been able to top this. Except, of course, for Part 3. This film has so many classic scenes and classic lines, and that's the sign of a tru comedy classic. This is. Imogene Coca as Aunt Edna is a comedic performance to cherished and remembered. This is a great funny film that will live on forever.
Rating: Summary: Great movie, poor DVD Review: I really want to buy this movie on DVD, but without widescreen there is no way.
Rating: Summary: Great Movie. Bad DVD. Review: This is a great classic and my second favorite Chevy Chase film. European Vacation is my favorite but may be hard to relate to if you never visited Europe before 1980. Unfortunately the DVD version has been edited for political correctness. Part of the scene where they get lost and ask for directions has been deleted. Don't buy the DVD if you like original uncut versions of movies.
Rating: Summary: Good movie, bad DVD Review: I would love to buy this movie on DVD, but only after good features have been added. First of all, widescreen. No DVD should be released without the original aspect ratio. Second, here in Region 1 where both English and French are official languages, both should be supported in subtitles *and* audio. I checked other regions for this DVD and it *is* available in widescreen with French audio. Other DVD features, such as audio commentaries and featurettes (and an improvement over mono sound), would be much appreciated. As it is, this DVD is not much better than an old VHS tape.
Rating: Summary: Great Movie, Bad DVD Review: If you already have National Lampoon's Vacation on VHS, or if you taped it off the Television don't bother to buy the DVD. Most movies have 5.1 Dolby Surround audio these days. Every so often you'll find an older movie that wasn't recorded in Dolby, and is on DVD in 2 channel Stereo. This movie was recorded in Mono. That's right folks, the sound only comes out of one speaker. That is almost unheard of these days. I love this movie, but it pains me to watch it on my home theater system. The sound doesn't even come out of the center channel, for me it comes out of the left. Luckily this DVD was a gift and I didn't spend any money on it. Let's just pray that the powers that be realize what a goldmine they have and remaster this movie, and add a few extras if they can.
Rating: Summary: BEST VACATION MOVIE!! GREAT COMEDY!! Review: FIRST OF ALL I LOVE THE VACACTION SERIES!! CHEVY CHASE, BEVERYLY D 'ANGELO AND THE SCENE -STEALING RANDY QUAID ARE TERRIFIC!! CHASE PLAYS THE PERFICT DIM-WITTED DAD WHO WILL GO TO ANY RISK TO BRING WALLY WORLD JOY TO HIS FAMILY!! EUROPEAN( THE NEXT IN THE SERIES) WAS FUNNY, CHRISTMAS VACATION WAS GREAT AND VEGAS VACATION WAS QUITE ENJOYABLE, BUT THIS- THE ORIGINAL WAS IN MY OPINION ONE OF THE BEST COMEDIES EVER- THIS ONE ALSO HAD THE BEST SET OF KIDS!! LET THE GRISWALDS TAKE YOU ON THIS SPLENDIDLY HILARIOUSE TRIP THAT IS A MUST FOR ANY SERIOUSE COMEDY/MOVIE COLLECTION.!! PLEASE DONT MISS OUT!!
Rating: Summary: Great Movie, Lousy Format Review: This is no doubt a classic comedy, probably Chevy Chase's best effort, but why isn't it available in wide-screen format on DVD?
Rating: Summary: Hysterical Review: I can remember seeing this movie at the theatre when I was a kid and loving it. But, this is one of those movies that you can watch a million times and laugh hysterically every single time you watch it. I just love it, and would highly recommend this one for your home library of videos!!
Rating: Summary: Yeah, I bet you could use a cool one, eh, Clark? Review: There's really no need to weigh down a review of this film with a bunch of silly film-school blathering...this is quite simply the Finest Film Ever Made. If you like your Laffs with a capital L, get out your wallet.
Rating: Summary: Not too bad Review: National Lampoon's Vacation is a comedy with big laffs. The Griswold family go on a vacation to Walley World in L.A. and encounter every single thing that could go wrong on a road trip. Their car breaks, their dog dies, their aunt dies and Clark (the main character) gets lost in the desert. It's a really wild film that's quite funny. It is rated R but is quite tame compared to most R-rated (or PG-13 rated) comedies that come out nowadays. National Lampoon's Vacation is rated R for nudity, sexual scenes, strong profanity and a little bit of violence. If you're 15 or older, rent it!
