Summary: This has to be the funniest movie that no one ever heard of!
Review: Noises Off is a treasure of a movie buried in the comedy section of the video store. And after viewing it as a chance discovery, I would rank it as one of the funniest movies I've ever seen ' bar none! There is no message, no lingering camera work and precious little plot actually, but the sight gags and interaction of the characters make this movie an absolute laugh riot.

The premise of this film deals with the rehearsals and pre-Broadway tour of a play that aspires to be a classic British sex farce. Michael Caine plays the beleaguered director, with Julie Hagerty as his stage manager, trying to corral a collection of stage and movie actors on both sides of the career loop. Carol Burnett, John Ritter, Christopher Reeve, Denholm Elliott, Marilu Henner and Nicolette Sheridan make up the onstage ensemble, with the able support of Mark Linn-Baker. Throughout early rehearsals and performances the cast conspires with and against each other in matters of romance, revenge and profession expression ' all to hilarious effect.

It all culminates in a fateful performance that we view/hear primarily from backstage as conflicts of love and stage presence boil over in mid-show. It just might be the funniest thing ever filmed that didn't involve the genius of Mel Brooks.

Summary: Bar none the funniest moive I have ever seen
Review: Most comedies you can watch once or twice but after that it is no longer funny. Noises off, with its all star cast (although they probably weren't all stars back when the movie was made) is the kind of movie that will keep you laughing time and time again. I laugh so much that my sides are cramping. You can't talk this one up too much...it will exceed your expectations.

Summary: This movie is absolutely I don't know
Review: Alongside Clue and Soapdish, this movie is one of the most under-rated ensemble comedies to grace the silver screen in the last twenty years.

Laugh through your tears as you see a fully-mobile Christopher Reeves and a still-vital John Ritter; both actors are at the top of their game in this flick, and the rest of the cast is just as good.

Buena Vista has even had the intelligence to grace this DVD with the original widescreen aspect ratio. Your excuses are gone-- buy this on the release date! You will love it!

Summary: Comedic Masterpiece
Review: I bought this DVD mostly because of the magnificent talents of Burnett (she's so, ya know!) and was immediately entranced not only by cooky Carol but the rest of the cast as well. John Ritter, Michael Caine, Christopher Reeves....All amazing people with so much to give! Their timing is perfect and hilarious. Watch out for all of those lovely missed lines and mixed up cues that the cast throws out. Brilliant. Just brilliant. If you like any of the cast members or if you're just looking for a side-splitting laugh, this is definitely something to pick up!

Summary: If you've ever been in a play...
Review: Or, for that matter, if you've ever been involved in any pursuit requiring the continued cooperation of a diverse group of people, this film will strike a chord within you. However, those who have been in a play or a musical will find these moments especially funny. The cast is outstanding- Christopher Reeve is possibly the most underrated comic actor of our time, but he's so good looking, it's easy to forget how funny he is. John Ritter is a genius at physical comedy and slapstick, and Carol Burnett plays over-the-top emotion in a completely believable way. There are no back stories or sentimentality- just rehearsing the play and performing the play. You will love it.

Summary: Backstage exposed
Review: That actors get confused between their real life and their acting on-stage (and backstage) is not quite new, but I never saw it better done than in 'Noises off...'. Above all, I'm more than grateful to the reviewer "archibael", thanks to whom I knew the DVD would be in the original screen format (when it's cropped to full-screen, and especially for good movies, I consider it's a kind of swindle and refrain from buying).

Summary: Exit...Stage Everywhere
Review: An oddity of sorts because you have the two actors who played Superman and Captain Avenger in one movie (Christopher Reeve and John Ritter respectively...Ha! Ha! Just kidding! For joke reference, see review for film SPEECHLESS,"...Well Spoken Movie" starring Micheal Keaton, Geena Davis, & Christopher Reeve! by same reviewer from Gilroy,CA)
Anyway, NOISES OFF is different from anything that has been done in film in recent years and is a salute to the art of theatre. A movie farce about a small midwest theatre group putting on a stage farce. The play will tour parts of the U.S. and finally make it to Broadway. It is during a test run on the small theatre circuit that the hilarity begins. Egos and personal differences manifest a literal physical battle among the cast members behind stage during one performance. A classic shot is of a stagehand witnessing the proceedings who shakes his head in comic disgust. However, as true professionals, no matter what happens behind the scenes, the show must go on. The film is very fast, physical and the ensemble cast is excellent. The movie audience sees rehearsals and performances on tour that take the kinks out of the presentation and stage direction finally bringing the cast together. Peter Bogdanovich directs one of his best films to date with Michael Caine, Carol Burnett,John Ritter, Christopher Reeve, Marilu Henner,Denholm Elliot,Mark Linn Baker, Julie Hagarty and trooper Nicollette Sheridan (trooper because she's in her under garments practically the whole movie). This film died at the box office maybe because movie going audiences are not theatre types. This film may not be for all tastes, but it is worth a look especially to see the late John Ritter and a healthy Christopher Reeve in outstanding comedic roles.

Summary: A must see. . . over and over!
Review: I have been waiting impatiently for this show to come out on DVD. I can't believe it's not a bestseller. One of the funniest shows I have ever seen! We watch it frequently just to lighten our day.

Summary: "No, I'm not in Spain, I'm in agony. That's where I am!"
Review: In 1992, Peter Bogdanovich directed a hilarious comedy called "Noises Off...", which was based upon a play that was written by Michael Frayn. (Peter Bogdanovich also directed "What's Up Doc" in 1972, "Paper Moon" in 1973 and "Mask" in 1985.) Starring a wonderful cast, "Noises Off..." is about a troop of actors preparing to perform a play on a national circuit that is under the direction of Lloyd Fellowes (Michael Caine) and features an actress named Dotty Otley (Carol Burnett). She includes a long-time friend, Selsdon Molbray (Denholm Elliott, 1922-1992), as part of her cast; but must contend with his alcoholism. Also included in her acting troop are Gary Lejeune (John Ritter, 1948-2003), Brooke Ashton (Nicolette Sheridan), Frederick 'Freddy' Dallas (Christopher Reeve), Belinda Blair (Marilu Henner), stage manager Poppy Taylor (Julie Hagerty) and prop manager Tim Allgood (Mark Linn-Baker), who must also be a stand-in actor if any of the other actors cannot perform. The play that they intend to perform takes place in a rural English country estate and opens with Dotty portraying a cantankerous housekeeper named Mrs. Clackett, who has a taste for sardines. Gary and Brooke enter next and portray an attorney named Roger Tramplemain and his assistant Vicki. They have come on behalf of the law firm representing the estate's owners, Philip & Flavia Brent, who are portrayed by Freddy and Belinda and who are supposed to be out of town. Thrown into this mix is Selsdon's character: a petty thief. Over the course of the play's performances, various interactions between the actors, managers and Lloyd begin to have a negative impact upon the play's execution with hilarious results.

Carol Burnett, John Ritter, Christopher Reeve and Michael Caine all performed their roles superbly in "Noises Off...". The plot and character development are highly engaging and unpredictable. Memorable scenes include the dress rehearsal, the back-stage happenings, Seldon's bottles, the sardines, the cactus, Lloyd's relationships and the on-stage mishaps. Overall, I rate "Noises Off..." with 5 out of 5 stars for being a delightfully funny and engaging story. It's a film that everyone can watch and enjoy and a fine way to remember John Ritter's acting skills.

Summary: Noises Off is Hysterical!
Review: One of the best things about this movie is the first time I watched it, I had to stop in the middle just to laugh so I wouldn't miss any more of the jokes. As a person who has been involved with theater for years, I especially appreciate all the jokes and frustrations contained in this film! With such a collection of talent, what else can be expected?

Also, if you like Noises Off, I highly recommend seeing Clue (1985) starring Tim Curry, Eileen Brennon, Martin Mull, Madeline Kahn and several other comedy greats.
