Summary: It's On DVD! Yesss!
Review: It's finally on DVD! A consistently funny film from start to finish. I'm somewhat disappointed at the complete lack of extras (I was hoping to at least see the original trailer, which I never got to see in the States). The absence of bonus material is the only thing keeping me from giving this DVD a five-star rating. Kids In The Hall are responsible for some of the best comedy on the North American continent. See this!

Summary: A MOVIE SO UNFUNNY I FEEL SOMEONE OWES ME 90 MINUTES BACK!
Review: Dear God what happened here? How do you go from creating some of the funniest characters of all time...On one of the funniest shows of all time....By 5 of the funniest guys of all time... To creating a movie so UNfunny it literally seems to know it and ooze sad resignation.

Now don't get me wrong: I am the biggest KITH fan there is... In fact, I just saw them 3 times a month ago on the new live tour. But BRAIN CANDY is just awful.

Plain and simple.

It is painful to watch. We are teased with small snippets of the best charcters of the show...And left with a movie full of new not funny characters and a script that actually tries to be a SCRIPT!

God, I would have rather they released a theatrical version of the show.

BRAIN CANDY? No. BRAIN DEAD is more like it.

Summary: Disappointing Candy from the Kids
Review: I was a huge fan of the Kids in the Hall. That series proved in the late eighties that sketch comedy had life left, even after SNL had drug it through the mud for a decade. I was excited by the idea of a long format sketch but I think it proved to much for the Canadians.

The story, of a greedy drug company releasing an untested drug on the market is weak, yes, but that doesn't matter so much. The story is just an excuse to get the various Kids dressed up and making with the funny. My problem with Brain Candy is that the acting which is so endearing in a short sketch is annoying for an hour and a half and the movie is just ugly. I wish I could recommend this flick but I can't. Maybe just watch Animal House again instead.

Summary: Kids in the Hall is "Candy for the Brain"
Review: Ok, so i was kinda if-ey when i bought this tape, but it was well worth the money! It brought back a couple of characters from the show, and it added some new ones. the idea was pure genius, and i must say, Kevin McDonald played his part of the scientist very, very well. Dave Foley also did an excellent preformance in his role. It was also great to get that special little appearance of Paul Bellini in there too. Scott Thompson did excellent in his role of the gay-man (suprise suprise). And finally, Mark McKinney did great in his role as head of the Pharmasuetics company. And, as always Bruce McCoullogh did excellent in his role as a woman, but did equally well as the rock god. I give this movie an all over 5 stars, two thumbs up, the whole lot. If you love the television series "the Kids in the Hall" you will love their only feature film, "Brain Candy". Enjoy!

Summary: Great humor from the Great White!
Review: The boys from the ground breaking Canadian television show "Kids in the Hall" have made a wonderful transition to the Big Screen! This is a wonderfully dry, silly film. If you enjoy the Pythons, SCTV Saturday Night Live (the original cast)and Mad TV go ahead and buy this film!

Summary: It's A Fact
Review: It really is a shame. So many times in our culture a really great movie slips through the cracks of mainstream media. And I would have to say, that out of them all, this one is the best. "Brain Candy" isn't your ordinary film however, it was pure and utter genius. Kevin McDonald, Bruce McCulloch, Mark McKinney, Scott Thompson, and Dave Foley put together what might have been the greatest "cast" of characters ever seen in a movie. And the plot, who cares, the movie's funny enough to not worry about the plot. But, the plot still pulls through at all points of the movie. If you enjoy humor, than this movie is for you. If you think that "Scary Movie" and "Not Another Teen Movie" are funny, than I wouldn't even bother, you wouldn't understand "Brain Candy". And that, well, It's a fact.

Summary: Very fun
Review: As the Kids said themselves in Same Guys, New Dresses, this movie is packed with less memorable performances (although some performances are stellar) than the actual writing (which is great!). This movie definitely has to be seen more than once to catch all the nuances and jokes, and because the acting is almost too subtle, the audience has to work hard. Don't judge this movie until you've seen it at least more than once. The laughs come a lot easier when you're familiarized with the story. This movie is quite delightfully dark, but my only complaint is that a bit of zest is lost in the ending for reasons that I can't exactly pinpoint. When I first saw this movie, I was a new fan and therefore did not catch the inside jokes of the recurring characters, but after I acquainted myself with the show and watched Brain Candy again, I found them hysterical (especially the Dave character who just "shows up"). I was also amazed at some of the subtle jokes that I missed the second time I watch it. Admittedly, my biggest complaint is in the presence of the groupies whom I did not at all enjoy watching onscreen. This is extremely well written, and not only is it hilarious, but it's an intelligent commentary on our Prozac nation.

Summary: One of the greatest comedies of all time
Review: This is an accomplished and brilliant piece of cinema. It is genuinely funny and yet at the same time has the blackest of black hearts. I truly believe this film is up there with Doctor Strangelove as one of the greatest comedies ever crafted for the big screen. The performances are perfect and the characters are brilliant exercises in the minutae of life. The film also has a strong and potent message. I am not sure that another cinema outing for the Kids in the Hall would be as strong despite their brilliant TV show, possibly if only because they have such a lot to live up to. I only wish more people could have seen this film at the cinema but I'm very pleased to see this film coming out on DVD and will buy it the day it is realised.
