Summary: I can't stop you from watching this, but...
Review: Maybe you'd really like this film if you are nostalgic about the way Hollywood once portrayed rich people. It's amusing to watch Diane Keaton and spouse cooped up in a miniscule, overpriced Manhattan co-op filled with chrome and glass furniture and talk about how much money they make and how many hours per week they work. If you are the sort who likes watching dozens of women in dorky dark skirts and helmet hair trotting to their next power lunch, this movie is for you, Mister (or Sister). The script achieves a few high points in its unintended humor (or irony) when we hear that Diane is paid "zillions" a year to tell investors that a company must trim "operating expenses" in order to "become profitable".

Into this odd "business is evil" morality play comes a baby for whom Diane eventually develops maternal feelings, as well as a rugged country dude who can give her what she "really needs". Who knows? Even the bad 80's music groups have nostalgia value. Maybe this movie is next.

Summary: Substandard and bad developed
Review: The idea behind this movie was really great. Imagine the tiger lady who became a devoted mother.... This film was supposed to show us that family and children are more important than all the money and any career in the world. It was supposed to show some humor, make people laugh, and warm one’s heart. But it failed to accomplish anything!

First of all, she did not transform from business lady to a mother. The movie showed me a bright and sharp working woman who was transformed to a humiliated and miserable creature. She was taken from her regular life style in New York City to this far away country, a forest, were she does not belong, where she does not have anyone. She met there a vet whom she did not like to begin with and who completely had nothing to do with her. But eventually she "fall in love" with him ONLY because he was the only single man under sixty around! The character of this guy was absolutely not developed; we are not shown anything about him. He behaved like a piece of wood; he expressed nothing....

Because this movie was unable to SHOW us all this. The movie did not show us how she loved Vermont. It did not show us that her baby was happy there. It did not show us clearly that she was a TIGER lady. This why it had explicitly to tell us all this through the voice behind the screen or through her final speech. What a poor job! The plot has too many holes. She purchased a home in VERMONT? She could buy the same house in upstate New York or in Long Island and continue her job in the same company without sacrificing her life style. She could not find a normal baby sitter in New York? Give me a break!

This movie deserved only one star for good music. Clearly, the movie does not worth watching or buying. In addition to all that, the DVD picture quality was really bad. If you want to see this movie you better rent it first. If you love this movie you better buy it on videotape....

Summary: A Sweet , Endearing, Funny Movie!
Review: This is one of my all time favorites!!! Who can resist Diane Keaton and that GORGEOUS baby! At times it's hysterical and at times it makes you want to cry....but in the end it's a heart warming film. I have watched it so many times I think I literally wore out the tape. If you don't want to purchase it, do yourself a favor and at least rent it....you won't be disappointed!

Summary: Great Entertainment
Review: This light-hearted film has it all: a great plot, good acting, lots of humor, and some touching moments. If you are looking for a movie that will entertain you, make you laugh, and move you, you will enjoy this. Diane Keaton is delightful, and so is the film.

Summary: A wonderful movie that teaches you what is important in life
Review: This movie shows you how important and influential a baby can be in someones life. Baby Boom has a great variety of comical jokes along with heartwarming moments that you will remember forever. This is a must have for any woman's video collection! Buy it!

Summary: Loved this move for 15 years!
Review: This movie, which I fell in love with in 1987, has made me laugh and cry every time I have watched it. I owned the video and now the DVD because I never want to be without a copy. Some of it may seem a little "80's" now, but that's no reason not to watch a classic! Baby Boom is definitely a chick flick, but well worth the time on a rainy Saturday afternoon, ...even if you have seen it before

Summary: She Did It Her Way!
Review: This review refers to MGM's DVD edition of "Baby Boom".....

They call her "The Tiger Lady". She's a woman of the 80's.She's a high powered ad exec, with a six figure income, has an apartment to die for, which she shares with her significant(but slightly dull)other(also a six figure income),and is about to become a partner in the firm. She's J.C.Wiatt,a real go-getter. She has it all. Or does she?

Diane Keaton turns in a touching and funny performance as this dynamic woman, whose life is suddenly turned upside-down by a surprising inheritance. No, not money or a family heirloom, this inheritance is "Elizabeth"....a bouncing bundle of joy who melts the heart of the Tiger Lady and will melt yours as well.A toddler was not part of J.C.'s plan. How will she juggle her career and motherhood? And what about romance, can that ever be part of her future now? It doesn't look good. But when life hands J.C. Wiatt lemons(and a baby)...she does it her way...she makes applesauce!

Written by Nancy Meyers and Charles Shyer(who also directed), it is a nostalgic look back at the evolving baby boomer.A marvelous supporting cast includes Harold Ramis, Sam Wanamaker,Sam Shepard, and James Spader as the protoge from hell. It's a sweet and funny feel good tale. The music by Bill Conti gives the perfect feel to the story.

The DVD is presented in widescreen(1.85:1) and the sound is in Dolby Digital stereo surround. The picture is good. Not the shaprest I've seen on a film this recent, but a nice view. The surround sound is nice. The music and dialouge both clear and disguinishable. There is a theatrical trailer and it may be viewed in French(also stereo) and has subtitles in French and Spanish, but none in English. If you are interested in this film and are needing English subtitles, there is a German edition(PAL)with English captioning out there. I did not see it sold here at Amazon though.

"Baby Boom" is a fun romantic comedy that was nominated for Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture(Comedy/Musical) and Best Actress(Comedy/Musical).4 stars.

Thanx and enjoy......Laurie

Summary: Good.
Review: Though I preferred Three Men and a Baby I liked Baby Boom too and thought it was a sweet movie and just a great plot of the workaholic businesswoman with no plans of having any kids learning that a relative with a baby has died had named her in the will to be the one to take care of the baby and while at first relunctlantly agreeing to take the baby soon finds herself enjoying having the baby and makes some changes in her life. I recommend this movie to anyone who likes Diane Keaton and also likes movies about babies! I gave the move 4 stars but really it's more like 4 1/2 stars.
