Summary: Classic, the ultimate Bill Murray flick
Review: Absolutely one of the funniest movies ever made. It would definitely have to be highly ranked, if only for the fact that it is possibly the most quoted movie of all time. Who among us has never said "Lighten up, Francis" or "You can't leave, all the plant are gonna die! ". Bill Murray is at his best, and Harold Ramis is the perfect straight man for him. Add in a supporting cast that includes John Candy, Judge Rheinhold, John Laroquette and Sean Young, and you have something pretty special. Also, gains points for the fact that it doesn't start to fade out at the end, like many comedies do when the decide to get "message-y". It just keeps up the energy and humor right up to (and including) the credits. To this day, the only movie I have ever enjoyed so much that I went right back to see it the very next night.

Summary: The more I watch, the funnier it is...
Review: The first time I watched this movie, I wondered, "What's the big deal?" But then I gave it another chance, and it began to grow on me. It's now one of the indispensables in my collection.

John Winger is an underachieving slob who has lost his job, his car and his girlfriend all in the course of a single morning. His somewhat unorthodox solution is to join the army and bring a friend with him.

Bill Murray has insincerity down to an art form, as the smart-aleck Winger who clashes with the hard case Sergeant Hulka from day one. John Candy and Harold Ramis lead a great supporting cast that makes up Winger's platoon full of losers. John Larroquette also performs well as the idiot base commander who is more interested in chasing women than managing his responsibilities.

From the beginning, Winger is a square peg in a round hole, and while his friends like him (sort of), the people in authority certainly don't. Winger does, however, have a certain magnetism as an individual who is willing to challenge authority, and becomes the "leader" of the platoon when Sergeant Hulka is injured in a training accident. Predictably (yet hilariously), the platoon comes together and pulls off a wonderful performance at their graduation, earning them a choice assignment, which they promptly screw up, and then turn themselves into heroes.

While certainly not a classic of the american cinema, this movie is a classic of '80s comedy, and should be welcomed into any DVD collection, especially for [the item price].

Summary: A Really Funny Movie!
Review: Stripes came out in the movie theaters when I was 16 years old and it is very funny and one of my favorite Bill Murray movies and he and Harold Ramis were both great and this movie is very amusing! I don't have Stripes in my collection yet but I'm going to buy the widescreen DVD and I very highly recommend this hilarious movie!

Summary: This is why I joined the Army...
Review: What? You mean the Army isn't really like this movie? Okay, so it's a comedy and it isn't meant to be like the Army, but it is meant to be funny, which it really is.

Bill Murray and Harold Ramis play the part of unlikely Army recruits bumbling their way through their training to somehow managing to get their entire platoon transferred to Europe for a top secret assignment, which Murray manages to ruin and get his platoon captured behind the iron curtain.

This comical movie is packed with one-liners and gags that typify comedies of the early 80's, and like many other movies of this era, the occasional gratuitious nude scene help keep the movie interesing if you like that kind of thing.

Summary: Bill Murray wants you
Review: In one atypical morning, loser Murray loses his job, car, apartment, and girlfriend. This was pretty much his own doing, and since one stupid move deserves another, he and pal Ramis enlist in the army. His whole platoon is comprised of misfits,who give drill sergeant Warren Oates a run for his money. But when he's injured during basic training, Murray leads the platoon in completing basic training by themselves. This captures the attention of the general, who decides that these go-getters must be assigned to a special mission in Italy. The assignment in question is the EM-50, a killing machine disguised as an RV. Murray and Ramis, while on post, decide to take it for a little joyride. This results in the rest of their platoon being captured and held behind the iron curtain. Murray and a reluctant Ramis set off to rescue their counterparts. Very funny start to finish, with a hilarious scene in a mud wrestling club. Great supporting cast includes John Larroquette, John Candy, Judge Reinhold, and P.J. Soles. Screenwriter Ramis shines in his first on camera role. A welcome member of the "Animal House" genre.

Summary: Enlist Stripes
Review: Stripes is yet an comedic tour-de-force for Bill Murray. He stars as a John Winger, who is a basic loser. After his girlfriend dumps him, he sees a commercial on television for the army. He convinces his friend, Russell (wryly played by Harold Ramis) to enlist with him. The fellow soldiers in their troop include John Candy, Judge Reinhold, John Diehl and as their leader, Sgt. Hulka, Warren Oates. Hulka is a by the book, strict drill sergeant and the clashes between he and Winger are a scream. The high moment of the film is where the members of the troop introduce themselves to one another. A young Sean Young plays the love interest of Russell and Mr. Candy excels as Ox, who joined the army as a way to lose weight. The supporting cast is great, but this is Mr. Murray's film all the way. His eats up every scene he's in and fast and furious pace forces you to keep up with him. The film is proof that Bill Murray is one of the funniest men alive.

Review: John Winger(Bill Murray) quits driving taxicabs and enlists in the army with his teacher roommate(Harold Ramis). They experience the typical army life,filled with commanders,guns and best of all,pretty girls. The late John Candy gives great moral support as one of the soldiers. The then-little-known Sean Young is one of the girls whom the guys meet while in the army. One of Murray's most memorable post-Saturday Night Live films. Murray and Ramis later filmed the two GHOSTBUSTERS movies and Ramis directed 1993's GROUNDHOG DAY,starring Murray and Andie MacDowell.

Summary: Comedic Genius
Review: While the Cold War setting of this movie may be a bit dated, the humor is still fresh and hilarious. This movie has a great cast featuring Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, John Candy, Sean Young, John Laroquette, Judge Reinhold, and others, when they were relative nobodies. Well, some of them are still nobodies, but in any case... this movie is non-stop laughter! Murray and Ramis are great as a couple of losers who join the Army out of sheer desperation with their dead-end lives. They join up with a company of misfits and freaks with a hard-[corps] drill sergeant, played by Warren Oates in a comedic version of R. Lee Ermey's future role in Full Metal Jacket. The implausibility skyrockets as these fools somehow manage to fall in love, pass basic training, get assigned to guard a top-secret assault video, invade Eastern Europe, and defeat hordes of Commies. Still, what is classic 80's comedy without ridiculous situations such as these? It is a hilarious and completely frivolous movie, but filled with classic lines from Murray and non-stop laughter. Right up there with Caddyshack in the pantheon of goofy comedies, and definitely a few notches above the similarly themed Cold War comedy Spies Like Us. It is no Dr. Strangelove, but it was never meant to be. If you want to see Murray & Co. at the height of their abilities, look no further.

Summary: ignore the bad reviews
Review: Apparently some of the previous reviewers don't understand that Stripes is a C-O-M-E-D-Y...i.e. it doesn't have to represent the army, but rather need only be humorous. Mission accomplished--it's ridiculously hilarious. Directed by Ivan Reitman and starring Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, John Candy, John Larroquette, and Judge Reinhold, Stripes may very well be the prototypic 80's comedy. If you haven't seen the film you're doing yourself a grave disservice. At the very least, rent the movie and judge for yourself.

Brief synopsis: John (Murray) and Russell (Ramis) are two disillusioned friends who join the army on a whim to escape their dead-end jobs and to be all they can be. Grouped with a collection of psychopaths and fellow num-nuts they proceed to stumble through boot camp. When their drill-sergeant is injured during training exercises, John assumes leadership of this military version of the Bad News Bears. Thrown into the mix, you have two attractive MPs, mud wrestling, a classified covert combat-ready recreational vehicle, and Sean Young before she went loopy.

Summary: Not what the army is like
Review: This film gets the award of the worst film ever portraying Army Life it just does not happen like this. Bill Murray is basically playing his worst role ever. Harold Ramis is a good actor and director what is he having anything to do with this film? John Candy is at his worst he shined much better in any movie but this. The film is just stupit from the start guys like Bill Murray and Harold Ramis decide to join the Army because their lives are pathetic and they look about slightly over 30 in this film a little old for the army fellas and then when they decide to finally join up I love it how the female recruits are just waiting for them at the bus station to check there name off like there headed for summer camp or something going into the army just does not happen like this and look at the haircuts they are given Harold Ramis would be thrown in the stockade with a hairdo like that in the army. The only believable haircut is John Candy's the rest of those guys don't have the right cut. So many things are just wrong this picture scene after scene just portraying the Army as this false place it is not. I don't like how every recruit joining the army in this film is such a goober that just isn't the case in real life. What a sorry case of pure stupitity bad humor and a false accusation of the United States Army. I hate this film.
