Rating: Summary: HOW'S IT GOING TO END? Review: You know how people act around you, like when they're being fake? You kind of always wonder what the hell they're trying to do. The Truman Show intensifies that wonder. It has a lot to say, yes I'm saying this show is a statement, and it screams DECEIT. Issues of Moral Responsibility, coupled with innocence, suppressed human desire, and downright lying. I guarantee you will be able to identify with Truman's need to get out. You'll understand once you see it. And when you do, you'll find out HOW'S IT GOING TO END.
Rating: Summary: A very interesting Movie Review: The story idea was very original and unique. Carrey's acting is very understated compared to other roles. You really want to root for Truman.

Rating: Summary: Jim Carrey's exploration into drama proves VERY successful Review: The Truman Show is an excellent film. With a unique plot, well developed characters, and intense emotional scenes, this movie is a masterpiece. Jim Carrey's first starring role in a drama (he played a supporting role in "Doing Time on Maple Drive") proves to be VERY successful. I highly recommend this film for any audience, as it provides light comedy, well acted drama, and a fascinating story.

Rating: Summary: My expectations were too high Review: I really like Jim Carey and the word of mouth about this movie was very good. It sounded like such an interesting premise. I watched it and was not entertained.
Rating: Summary: One of the best movies of the year Review: It is hard to believe that Jim Carrey wasn't nominated for a bunch of academy awards for his role in "The Truman Show" because it's probably his best role so far. All of Jim Carrey's family and friends are actors under the direction of the director (Ed Harris) who has seen all of Mr. Truman's life from the time he was born up to now. A camera is always following Mr. Truman (Jim Carrey) and is broadcast live around the world 24/7 on a popular television channel called "The Truman Show." Mr. Truman becomes somewhat weary of what is happening and that's when the movie gets even more interesting. I recommend anybody to get "The Truman Show" so you can find out if and how Jim Carrey can escape the cameras and have some freedom for the first time in his life. "The Truman Show" isn't the funniest movie that Jim Carrey has been in, in fact it's more of a drama movie, but it is just as entertaining as any of his other movies.
Rating: Summary: A highly overrated Twilight Zone episode Review: I heard about the critical acclaim for this movie, but "The Truman Show" is highly overrated since it is basically a high production Twilight Zone episode with a fine performance by Jim Carrey. The score is brilliant, combining Mozart and New Age music. The director's decision to use a "real" suburban town in Florida instead of a set (such as Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands) shows just how much we do live in a world of our making. After seeing this film, you can't help but wonder if suburbia is just one big fantasy island. Also, Ed Harris as Christof is decent in this role, but I just can't see him as anything other the head of Mission Control from "Apollo 13," a role that was perfect for this actor. When Truman disappears, I expected someone to say, "Christof, we have a problem."
Rating: Summary: Jim Carrey at his Best Review: I am not a fan of Jim Carrey and I find many of his movies too over-the-top to be worth watching (just watch "Me, Myself and Irene" to know what I mean). But Truman Show proves to be the exception to the rule. Intended as a comedy, it turns out to be rather thought provoking and moving. The story follows Truman Burbanks, a 30 year old man who has never left his home town. Unbeknown to him, he lives in a giant studio that is visible from space, was adopted at birth by a movie corporation and is viewed daily by millions around the globe. In the 21st century, television viewers in general have reached the point where they are fascinated by individual lives, a trait as old as gossip. Watch Big Brother if you don't believe me. Truman Show is impressive in that it portrays this new trend three or four years before it emerges (it was released in 1998). TV junkies and couch potatoes have an infatuation with watching other people run their lives, hence Big Brother, Survivor and such other series. Personally, I find this a huge waste of time and was not surprised at the recent drop in consumer spending (and hence economy strength) in First World countries - they're all watching TV! Fortunately for the UK and US, Christmas came and everyone suddenly went out buying presents, so the economy was saved. But getting back to the movie, Truman eventually begins to discover what's happening due to some freakish accidents. A studio light falls from the sky, his car radio changes frequency and begins to follow him around. And there's the mysterious Sylvia who manages to spoil the studio's profits by nearly telling Truman what's up and thus making him more inquisitive. The Show is brilliant, and definitely a worthwhile watch. It is funny in parts, more sobering in others. We realise how completely oblivious Truman is to his world (initially, at least) and, for those who've never left home, makes us wonder if WE might be a Truman (figuratively of course)
