Summary: A Comedy That's Actually Funny.
Review: The critics panned this movie for not being "deep enough" or "believable." Well, maybe they're right, but it was funny; and isn't that what a comedy is supposed to be? (I guess the fans had the last word. Over 100 million dollars, while up against "Castaway" (over 200 million) and "What Women Want" (over 175 million). And considering it fought a word-of-mouth battle against the critics, that's pretty impressive.)

I convinced my wife (who doesn't go to theaters) to watch this movie with me. Right after it was over, she said she wanted to see it again. It was funny from the beginning to the end, and I've never been to a movie that the audience so obviously enjoyed.

Sandra Bullock was in her element in this movie, and hit on all cylinders. (She's a master of physical humor). I got the impression she had as much fun making this movie, as we did watching it. Michael Caine, Benjamin Bratt, William Shatner and Candice Bergen were all well cast. Michael Caine really impressed me as a comedian. If you like comedies that actually make laugh, you'll love this movie.

Summary: Not just for Bullock fans
Review: Sandra Bullock gets most of the attention - and why not, she's terrific here - but fans of Benjamin Bratt, Michael Caine, William Shatner and Candace Bergen will also have plenty of reasons to enjoy this film. The entire cast shines, resulting in a film that's just downright fun. Hubby and I saw it twice and laughed from beginning to end. The comedy is silly, yes, but without being corny. And the touch of romance was just right without getting schmaltzy. Not to mention there was plenty of eye candy for both of us (hey, watching Ben Bratt wrestle with Sandra was worth the price of admission alone!)

Summary: One of my favorite movies ever!
Review: I LOVED miss congeniality... I will admit there isn't a whole lot of plot, that it is pretty predicatable, but there are so many hilarious parts, I am constantly quoting it! I've always been a little (very little) like gracie, so it is even better if you are(or ever were) the "getting dressed up and caring about boys is a stupid ditzy shallow thing to do" type. I reccommend this movie to anyone because it's hilarious!

Summary: MSVRB
Review: As a devoted Bullock fan this movie is a must see. I laughed until I cried, and Sandra is a lovable bumbling FBI agent transformed into a beautiful but funny swan. Definitely one to own, as the laughter should keep coming. Refreshing entertainment in a sea of heavy movies. Enjoy.

Summary: Light hearted and enjoyable
Review: I believe that we need more movies like this one. Entertaining for both men and women thanks to the "comic" genius of Ms. Bullock. She is relatible and talented. It is quite refreshing and I recommend it highly!

Summary: Hilarious---a role only bullock can play!
Review: This movie- a spoof on the Miss America Awards- has to be one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. Sandra Bullock was made for this part (or perhaps the other way around) and it also has a fine supporting cast. Only Sandra Bullock could play the rough but strangely loveable (and beautiful) FBI agent that goes under cover in a beauty contest. It's packed with witty lines and hilarious scenes, a must see for anyone who likes to laugh.

Summary: Lots of Laughs
Review: If you want to sit back, relax and have a good laugh, Miss Congeniality will be perfect! Don't go with any expectations other than having a great time.

Summary: Here She Is...
Review: There's trouble in Texas and a lot of laughs in store for the audience, as Sandra Bullock stars in the engaging satirical comedy, "Miss Congeniality," directed by Donald Petrie. When the possible threat of violence at the "Miss United States" beauty pageant surfaces, the F.B.I. meets the challenge by sending in one of their own agents, Gracie Hart (Bullock), undercover as one of the contestants. There's one slight problem, however; Gracie is the right agent for the job, but she'd be more comfortable wearing a championship WWF belt than striking a pose in a swimsuit. Not to worry, though, because pageant organizer Kathy Morningside (Candice Bergen) has just the man to transform her into the beauty she must be, and he has all of two days in which to do it. The man of the hour (and the Professor Higgins to Gracie's Eliza) is none other than Victor Melling (Michael Caine), who has made a career out of grooming young ladies for the formidable task of competing in the arena of the Most Beautiful. But with Gracie, he has his work cut out for him. She's good with her dukes, has a penchant for pizza and beer, has a walk more like John Wayne than a future Miss U.S. and snorts when she laughs. All of which adds up to a good time for the audience, if not for Victor, as he goes to work. The story, while not altoghether original, is entertaining fare that is handled well by director Petrie and is, most importantly, what a comedy should be: Funny. For a comedy to work, a number of elements have to come together and gel; in this case, it's a combination of a concept that is credible, dialogue that is clever and gets laughs without being forced, some good physical bits (including a sparse use of slapstick that is effective), and a pace that keeps it all fresh as the story unfolds. What really puts this one over, however, are the stars, Bullock and Caine. The winsome Bullock demonstrates her versatility by pulling out all the stops physically, while creating a character that is totally believable, abandoning the safety net of the glamorous, girl-next-door, America's sweetheart type to make Gracie a very real, earthy person. And with all that goes on, it would be easy to ignore the emotional development she brings to the character as well, but it is there; by the end of the film we see a different Gracie, one of changed attitude and broadened horizons. And it works because Bullock makes it sincere and genuine, which makes Gracie an endearing, memorable character. The same can be said of Michael Caine's performance as the effeminate Victor. With his usual charm, he plunges into Melling's skin and paints him with fine strokes of nuance and wit, while managing to avoid stereotype as he creates a character that is uniquely his own. And the fact that Caine and Bullock play so well off of one another takes the movie to a higher level on that regard alone. Notable in supporting roles are the likable Benjamin Bratt , as Agent Eric Matthews, who watches Gracie's transformation with great interest; William Shatner, doing a camp turn as Stan, the "Bert Parks" of the Miss U.S. Pageant; Heather Burns, as Cheryl, "Miss Rhode Island;" and Bergen, who gives a winning performance as Morningside, the former beauty queen. Rounding out the cast are Ernie Hudson (McDonald), Wendy Raquel Robinson (Miss California), Diedre Quinn (Miss Texas) and Melissa De Sousa (Miss New York). A funny, feel-good movie, "Miss Congeniality" is a satisfying comedy that will make you laugh and leave you with a smile on your face, with performances by Bullock and Caine that are worth the price of admission alone. For a solid evenings entertainment, check this one out; you'll be glad you did.

Summary: Funny - but couldn't sit through it more than twice
Review: I went to see this movie without a lot of expectations. I was hoping for a few laughs, nothing heavy. And that is exactly what I got. Sandra Bullock gave a great performance as a tom boy. She was funny, obnoxious and convincing.

I didn't care much for Benjamin Bratt though, he seemed very stiff in his role. It was also a little bit disturbing that this playboy gets the girl so easily. He shows no interest in her as a woman until after she has her makeover. Which just perpetuated (to me) that men aren't attracted to women on personality and intelligence alone - and I think that men deserve better credit than that. Also when he does ask her out it isn't very romantic and more of a sex offer which her character deserves better than that, better than him. That might have soured me on the movie, and it was certainly predictable BUT - it was still a really funny movie, fun to watch and as long as you don't think about the underlying themes too much very enjoyable. Candice Bergen and William Shatner are HILARIOUS! I would watch it again if it were free, but probably not buy it.

Summary: Bullock and Co. - Graceful Paramedics?
Review: There is no doubt that Sandra Bullock is one of the most versatile actresses of our time. She can do comedy, she can do drama, she can do light, she can do serious. But she isn't a one-woman director/writer/actor team. The movie lacked dreadfully in its underpinnings, and Bullock was left to hold it together. And, mind you, she is the prime example of 'grace under fire;' Bullock and her team, the ever-gorgeous Miss Candice Bergen, almost-Miss Michael Caine, and Mister William Shatner, salvage what they can from the lacklustre comedy and make it an interesting and entertaining movie.

There is no doubt, Miss Congeniality is worth seeing. Bullock, Bergen, Caine, and Shatner are strained, but each put fine performances forward. Sporting little in line of a script or intriguing plot, these four actors rescue the movie; but, I'm still not quite sure why they signed a contract to start with...

In any event, Miss Congeniality is funny and an all-around good movie. Despite the lack of a decent script and plot, I felt fully entertained throughout the movie. If nothing else, see it to give these actors some incentive to do a better movie next time; one where they don't have to moonlight as Directors and Writers.
