Rating: Summary: Great Fun Review: Sandra Bullock is hilarious in this entertaining movie. The rest of the cast is great and this movie will surely make you laugh.
Rating: Summary: Mediocre Review: Sandra is a wonderful acress (especially in Practical Magic) but Benjamin Bratt cannot pull off comedy. Caine and Bergen were magical as usual. A replacement for Bratt would have been a dramatic improvment; he's just not that good of an actor.
Rating: Summary: Good Movie Review: This is a very funny movie, I liked it saw it in theatres in December so then I decided to buy it on DVD good features the audio commentery with Sandra Bullock was good. Worth watching. enjoy.
Rating: Summary: Warning: Guys stay away Review: Women, don't torture your men. Rent it on girls night. It had a few funny moments, but the torture far outweighed the humor. The story was... not worth comenting on. Wait for it to come on cable (it won't be long). That way, you have the option of switching channels without having wasted money. I gave it two stars for the wardrobe - Sandra does look rather HOT in some of the costumes...
Rating: Summary: critics... dont believe them Review: this was a sweet and funny movie. if u havent seen it see it. its way worth it. im not giving away the surprise twist though.
Rating: Summary: Movie amusing, Commentary Hilarious Review: Miss Congeniality lacks the real moments that help bring a comedy beyond the mundane. The introductory scenes are populated with the cop movie usual suspects: the screw up with the angry superior to pull her off the beat and the donut jokes. The pagent officials roll their eyes and toss barbed, unveiled insults at Bullock at the idea of her crashing the Pagent. The "idiot plot" device is that officials would not only let her in, but agree to make her a finalist so that she could have access to all areas of the pageant during the show. Of course no one considers the less complicated suggestion that giving an undercover officer blanket access would have the same effect. But then you don't get to have Sandy on stage and that would spoil the whole party. Once acclimatized to the silly setup, the remaining hour plays out in an unoffensive amusing fashion with nothing much to praise or condemn. The big surprise for me is the hilarious commentary between Bullock and co-screenwriter Marc Lawrence on the bonus portion of the DVD. My intent is not to insult the movie when I say that the commentary is much funnier and more charming than anything the move had to offer. It simply is. Its obvious Mark and Sandra have great chemistry together as they power through the entire film, making fun of each other's writing and acting ability and moments in the film itself in good old fashioned Mystery Science Theater style. They are spontaneous, witty, and truly charming. All the qualities you hope to find in a Sandra Bullock film. I can't really recommend the film unless you have nothing else to watch. But I can recommend the DVD because of this fun and unique style of commentary. If you rent it, be sure to turn it on. And if you only have time to watch the film once. Watch it this way instead. You won't be sorry you did.
Rating: Summary: Funny Movie Review: I picked up this DVD because I like Sandra Bullock's work. The premise is a bit weak, but I wasn't looking for an "Oscar contender." Watching Ms. Bullock go from tomboy to beauty queen was a hoot (especially when she was with Michael Caine). Only a woman can understand and "feel her pain" with the beauty regimen she had to endure. If you want to see a movie that is entertaining (not mind-numbing) this is a good bet.
Rating: Summary: Great Austin-based film! Review: Miss Congeniality was filmed in Austin quite a bit and Austin loved having the crew in town. There was also a regional premier of the movie and the proceeds went to the Austin Film Society and the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Sandy, her beau singer/songwriter Bob Schneider, Benjamin, Julia Roberts, Shatner, and the crew were present for Q&A afterwards, which was awesome. Sandy said that she picked the "talent" in memory of her mom, who recently passed away. Julia stayed out of the limelight and let Sandy shine. Bob Schneider, who was recently picked up on Universal and released Lonelyland, has his song Bullets played with the credits. Pick it up because it is a great album. Afterwards, there was a party at Antone's with La Tribu, where Sandy and friends like Tate Donovan showed up and danced all night. How cool of Sandy to share her success with the Austin community and raise money for a good cause! Thanks!
Rating: Summary: Disappointing......... Review: I almost bought this DVD but decided to rent it first. I'm glad I did....I promptly cancelled my DVD order. The movie is okay-at-best. If any other actress besides Sandra Bullock starred in this movie, it certainly would be shelved. Sandra plays a sloppy, unattractive FBI agent....and overacts in the process. The movie just tries too hard for laughs and fails. It's just not believable nor funny to see Sandra snorting when she laughs, stuffing her face while ketchup is dripping everywhere, eating with her mouth open, dressing sloppy & not brushing her hair, walking like a hood, talking with poor grammer, and the list goes on. I guess the major thing that bothers me is that she has no clue that she's a social joke yet she's an FBI agent so that implies she has some brains. The two aspects just don't mix. I think Sandra is a major talent but this movie isn't her shining glory.
