Summary: Pretty dang good
Review: First off, I just want to say that this movie was not what I had expected. The trailers presented "Pleasantville" as a cute (but rather brainless) fun-for-the-whole-family type movie. After seeing it, I realize that it's hardly that kind of film.

I was very surprised when I finally saw the movie. The entire film is a metaphor for the way society is today, from people's prejudice to the need to be unique. On the whole, I thought the presentation was fresh and original, with a good storyline to boot.

My only complaint was with the ending, which seemed to be tacked on as an afterthought. Oh well.

Summary: A supreme masterpiece. You are obliged to see it.
Review: Last week (April 3-4) I watched Pleasantville 4 times. During the week, I was thinking about renting it once more, or even buying it. I've just watched it for the seventh time now, and believe me, this is not the last time I do.

Even if you're not someone who watches movies over and over (I am like this), you'll love Pleasantville. If I were Gary Ross, I wouldn't believe I succeeded in making such a masterpiece. Big and Dave were great movies, but Pleasantville is a lot higher, in visual effects as in ideology. The message that is vehiculated in this 120-minute motion picture is one of life, not morality, as the one-star raters will say.

By the way, if you have rated this movie one star, just call the nearest psychiatric hospital. You'll have a better living there, and your neighbors will be happy not to see you anymore.

To continue in my review (sorry, I just said what I was thinking), you are obliged to see it. You can't just stay there, reading my review. FOR GOD SAKES, IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET, RUN AT THE VIDEO STORE! Go anyway, even if you have seen it : this will just make you enjoy the film better.

The soundtrack is very good.

Summary: This movie has a wonderful theme that people are different.
Review: I loved this movie and I thought it should have been recognized more. I especially loved how it was like color and no color was compared to African Americans and Cacausian people. I think everyone should see it to remind us of how stupid we are to criticize people because they're different. This movie reall had a strong message to me.

Summary: Coming of Age...a visual feast
Review: Wow! Best of everything in this one. For those awake enough to appreciate it, Pleasantville offers a stunning journey (through the history of this world's prejudices) in a brilliant retelling of a metaphoric 'coming of age' story. The movie has so many levels! It is simply a work of art in every conceiveable way. The acting was purely wondrous. The chemistry was remarkable. The Pleasantville "mother" could've never spoken a word through the whole movie. She was bursting with emotion. Incredible. And wait untill you see the ending! What's that all about? TJ

Summary: G-R-R-R-E-A-T
Review: Rarely has a movie left me with such a feeling of satifaction or just simply put me into such a great mood. I bought this DVD just because I wanted to see it, but ended up loving it. Movies usually tell a story, with no theme or lesson, like good over evil, but this movie did. Not only did it encourage you to question what you do not believe in, but just question "Why?". Gary Ross has done an exceptional job in creating a simple movie with such a great deal of meaning. This movie is definitely a must see.

Summary: Strong in symbolism, stronger in visual effects
Review: I have never seen a good movie use such obvious means of symbolism and have it come out with this quality. One can see the changes that comes over the characters as they discover what is beyond themselves, the things they thought were forbidden, things we take for granted in our daily lives. As for the visual effects...seeless. The hype about the effects was a big draw and if you are not one for storylines, the effects will keep you interested.

Summary: Go set fire to your tree!
Review: Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. Works on every level. Some inspired moments (the ban on coloureds) and however far fetched, totally believable. How many people do you know who are in black and white. Well go and colour them in! And what will happen next? YOU JUST NEVER KNOW!

Summary: Lovely!
Review: This was a wonderful movie. It starts when a brother and sister are fighting over the remote control. They are magically transported to Pleasantville, where an old black and white tv show takes place. They try to help the townspeople show their true emotions. When they do show their true emotions, they change from black and white to color. This movie was a true visual deight! I love the contrast of the grey and the color together.
