Summary: A pleasant and colorful reflection about our own values.
Review: Pleasantville is a motion picture plenty of remarkable qualities: visual effects, art direction, costume design, etc. However, the best quality of this movie is the fact that it is not just a motion picture that makes us laugh at others' values, considered funny or ridiculous by our ethnocentric vision; it concerns a pleasant and colorful cultural impact that makes us reflect about our own values!

Summary: Good actors..a bit to political
Review: Reese Whitherspoon does an exellent job in this movie that is more about finding yourself then either the show or the 50's. If the director had stuck to this premis it would have gotten 5 stars. However, it becomes a bit to political and I can understand that people with a conservative mindset can be offended. Reese Whitherspoon will become a screen legend.

Summary: Great movie, great script, interesting commentary
Review: As a screenwriter, I found this DVD extremely worthwhile. The writer/director/producer does a masterful job of taking a somewhat worn premise and weaving a wonderful story out of it. I was especially impressed with the way each major character traveled along his or her own arc through the story. Gary Ross' commentary is useful and interesting for any screenwriters out there.

Summary: View with an open mind.
Review: Whenever I watch Pleasantville, my right contact falls out. It is important too see the movie with both eyes, left and right. Too many people see it one dimensionally.

Summary: Not So Pleasant
Review: Pleasantville, a truthfull summary. Liberalism, when distilled to its basic core is simply a political system we know by another name; Communism. The generation before mine fought the expansion of communism and saw it largely defeated with the fall of the Soviet Union, all the while not realizing that it had taken hold in the very heart of America. Compare the two: 1) All resources belong to the government and it decides to whom they will be redistributed 2) The government will decide how best to raise our children, destroying the family in the process 3) There is no true freedom of speech unless you happen to agree with the ruling party; and this list could go on. This threat of "New Communism" is perhaps much more deadly than that of the old. "New Communism" has infiltrated our society slowly, lulling us into a state of apathy and denial. With each passing generation the roots of this evil seed become a little more firm, a little more entrenched. My point being that when we as Americans turn our collective and individual backs on the advancement of Liberal Agenda, we allow the very foundation of our beloved nation to crumble a little more. Let us stand and fight now while we still have something worth fighting for. Let us defend our country, our way of life with the same patriotism and valor as was demonstrated to us by generations gone by. Let us not sit by and watch our precious America be destroyed. Thank you for your time and God bless America.

Summary: Typically Liberal
Review: Real simple - Freedom of speech and ideas are wonderful, unless you happen do disagree with the Liberal point of view. Watch this video and read most of the 5 star Leftist reviews. Agree with them or keep your mouth shut! This is becoming a tired mantra.

Summary: No thanks. This film dragged on...
Review: I got this DVD because of the great reviews it was receiving. I felt sorely disappointed. For me, this film dragged on and is not really my sort of film. I can see why it appeals to the American market though it tends to get onto the cheesy side.

If you're thinking about getting this film, I'd suggest you read the plot and decide whether you just think that'd be interesting or if you think it's a fantastic idea. Your decision there is likely to produce the outcome of whether you'll like it or not.

It's not a film for me but it sure did impress a lot of the Americans.

Summary: Thought provoking look at freedom and it's consequences
Review: As Tobey Maguire's character David/Bud Parker so aptly puts it to his 'real mother'(Jane Kaczmarack), there is no perfect life. It is a joy to watch these characters come alive, and a joy to witness extraordinary performances from the entire cast, but especially Tobey Maguire as the too-knowing David/Bud, Joan Allen as the frustrated housewife/turned/liberated spirit Betty Parker, and Jeff Daniels, totally redeeming himself from his depiction of pet-owner in Disney's 101 Dalmations re-make, by his portrayal of Bill Johnson, a soda shop owner who longs both for artistic endeavors and for Betty Parker. I loved this picture; it resonates with my encapsulated soul. How I long to be truly free...

Summary: Loved it!
Review: Look, everyone. Let's let alone all the fuss and feathers about morality.

If I had known this movie had Don Knotts in it-in his first serious dramatic film role ever, i believe, I would have bought it long ago.

I died laughing watching him raise hell at Tobey MacGuire's character. To me, that was worth the price of a ticket. And a copy of the video.

I give it four stars only because I feel the plot meanders a bit and at times the movie tries too hard to make a 'statement'.

It's definitely worth seeing, though. And owning.

Summary: A small masterpiece
Review: This movie is really great. The acting is superb, the sceneries are very well-done and... I don't know, you have to buy it. It's soundtrack is very good too, but this movie is worth-seeing. Don't care about people who disliked it. Read their comments and see that who is smart liked this film.
