Rating: Summary: A Thanksgiving movie Review: With Thanksgiving just around the corner, this movie is a great classic to be viewed about now. Just like "Its' a wonderful life" is pretty much mandatory now for Christmas, PT&A is really a movie to be watched by all for turkey day. It's the day before Thanksgiving and Neal, played with great comedic genius and timing by Steve Martin, just wants to get home and be with his family for the holiday. Of course, everything that could go wrong, does go wrong. Enter John Candy, as Del, the lovable bear of a guy who seems to turn up everywhere Neal does throughout pretty much the entire film. They have all sorts of mishaps together the first being bumped off their flight to Chicago. They manage to travel along side even though Neal is clearly not happy while Del has this goofy grin on his face through most of the movie. There are so many hiliarious momments throughout the film, but it is also quite heartwarming. The end of it is very moving. I think that John Candy and Steve Martin had great chemistry as a comedy duo. They were both really funny in this movie. If you are a fan of either one of them, you'd definitely appreciate this movie. and Happy Thanksgiving!
Rating: Summary: Timeless Review: Simply put, this was John Candy's masterpiece on many levels, not just comedy. And arguably, it was also the last great hurrah for John Hughes, regardless of how much money he made with the Home Alone series. For anybody that's had a mishap or two while travelling, this film is essential viewing; I'm no huge Steve Martin fan either, but he does a fantastic job as the straight (stiff) man, and his reactions are spot on. Candy's got second billing, but don't let that fool you. This film touches you on many levels while at the same time remaining very much a pure comedy for all ages (aside from the occasional profanity). I think it might have been even more effective (and popular) as a 'Christmas' film instead of 'Thanksgiving', but it's terrific anyway.
Rating: Summary: Great movie - terrible DVD for the price Review: I love this movie. It is a Thanksgiving tradition for us. I would have given it 5 stars, but the DVD is terrible. For the price that Paramont shafts you with, the DVD has NO special features to it. It has 'Play Movie' and 'Scene Selection' and that is it. The play quality is notibly better than VHS, but I would have liked to have more on the DVD for (dollar amount). Then again, Paramont seems to gouge their prices on DVDs across the board.
Rating: Summary: Simply great!!!!! Review: It's one of the funniest comedies of all times. Every time they play it on TV, it makes me laugh as the first time I saw it. Steve Martin and John Candy (who left us such a sour taste having died so young) give their best at this movie, which is worth being watched and enjoyed as many times as possible.
Rating: Summary: Candy and Martin at their best Review: This is one of my all-time favorites! A salesman and an advertising exec get "stuck" together over Thanksgiving weekend. Candy promises to get Martin home in time for Thanksgiving. Non-stop laughter. The best part is when they drive the rental car through the motel window. This is a comedy you can watch over & over. A classic!
Rating: Summary: What a laugh!!!! Review: This is a genuinely funny film.... I saw it originally in the theatre... It was extremely funny then.... I can watch this one again and again. I think everyone on the planet has seen it. There are so many funny scenes.... Other Driver :"You're going the wrong way....." Candy: "How do they know where we're going?" Those couple of lines bring it all back..... If you haven't seen this one, be sure to. It's an incredibly hilarious film...
Rating: Summary: those aren't pillows! Review: Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is one of my favorite comedies ever. John Candy and Steve Martin meet on the streets of New York City and are trying to get home to Chicago for the holidays. Through a series of mishaps the two are thrust together for a nightmarish journey. The shenanigans that occur when they finally get a rental car are enough to make you wet your pants! I highly recommend this movie. Just like Uncle Buck (another favorite John Candy Movie), this has a nice feel-good plot.
Rating: Summary: A New ThanksgivingTradition Review: My family and I absolutely adore this movie! Each one of us (three generations worth) quote this film almost daily. It has become a new Thanksgiving tradition at our home to watch this video together as a family after our dinner. I have even provided a copy to each of my children for their own homes - let the tradition continue! John Candy is so believable in this part, and Steve Martin as uptight ad exec trying to get home to his family is outstanding. The ending moves us all to tears every time we watch it. I highly encourage all to make this a part of their family Thanksgiving experience.
Rating: Summary: Definitely on my Top 5 list of funniest movies of all time ! Review: I've heard a lot of people brag about how funny "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" was all my life, but I never could find it to rent, and I never got the chance to see it on Tv.....until just now. To say the least, I thought "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" was HILARIOUS!!!!!!!! Mr. Page (Steve Martin) is on his way home to Chicago when Mother Nature throws a few obstacles in his path, keeping him from getting there right away. Even worse (but better for us comedy fans) Mr. Page keeps coincidentally running into a not so rich man named Del Griffith (John Candy). Now, the short-tempered Mr. Page and the overly nice Del, must put up with each other on planes, trains, and automobiles. From the first minute of "Planes, Trains and Automobiles," all the way to the last minute, it's a classic comedy movie. The reason it's a classic is because it has more hilarious parts in it than three average comedies combined. Once you see most of the hilarious sequences, you'll never forget them, such as when John Candy shows his driving skills, and when Candy and Martin both have to sleep in the same bed in a motel room. I've seen a lot of great comedy movies and I have a lot of hilarious comedies that I haven't yet seen, but of the many that I have had the opportunity to watch, "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" is without a doubt on my Top 5 list of the funniest movies of all time. I'm pretty sure that even if I saw every comedy movie ever made, it would still be on that list. If you like comedy movies AT ALL, trust me, do yourself a favor and purchase "Planes, Trains and Automobiles." You know it has to be a great movie when over 120 reviews have been written for it and it averages 4.7 out of 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: Martin & Candy -- A Winning Comedy Team Review: When well-to-do business man Steve Martin is stranded hundreds of miles from home on the day before Thanksgiving, he reluctantly joins forces with an out-of-luck John Candy, in a desperate effort to reach his family in time for the Holiday. -- The many hilarious slapstick moments remind of "Laurel & Hardy". Martin and Candy are a fantastic team of funny guys. The scene where both men are trying to get comfortable in a small motel bed without getting too close to each other is great comedy. -- This movie is very funny, but it also has some touching moments. When Candy discloses that in reality he doesn't have any family with whom to celebrate Thanksgiving, Martin tells him that he is welcome at his family's table. A very moving scene. -- I enjoyed this film very much; I believe you will too!
