Review: Take it on faith:Planes, trains and automobiles is the funniest movie ever made. Its just abought two guys trying to get home for thanksgiving.Thats it.But the how funny it is!And the people who do cameos....That conversation between Neal and the car rental agent is classic. And last but not least that final song at the end:I CAN TAKE ANYTHING.Classic flick.I would give it 100 stars if i could.
Rating: Summary: The best Thanksgiving Day movie out there! Review: I really loved this one! John Candy and Steve Martin were perfectly cast as two travelling companions forced together by circumstance. This is the film that put John Hughes on the map, and in my opinion, it's also his best work!
Rating: Summary: remarkably hilarious, one of the funniest movies ever. Review: A family tradition every thanksgiving. "I knew I knew ya'" "Oh I thought it would be much worse than this, that'll buff right out" "we can laugh about it now" "THOSE AREN'T PILLOWS!!" "Two coins in a fountain... Flinstones, meet the flinstones"
Rating: Summary: The human spirit at its best! Review: I have seen this movie at least 50 times and still get cracked up and choked up every time I see it. John Candy brilliantly drives Steve Martin crazy and you love him the whole time he is doing it. A real eye-opener on the human spirit that will make you laugh and really think! Rent it, own it, love it!! A classic.
Rating: Summary: The movie will fly, drive, and chug its way into your heart! Review: This is a family favorite! From "how about 'dem Bears" to Candy & Martin's convertible duet of "Blue Moon over Kentucky" to Kevin Bacon's cab stealing scene to 2 degrees, this is one funny, yet touching movie. If you go away from this review without watching P,T,& A, you are cheating yourself out of a laugh filled, and yet moist eyed evening.
Rating: Summary: Thank God This Film Exists!! Review: We are blessed to have not only a film but a great film combining the talents of veteran comics Steve Martin and the late John Candy. Far superior to most films of its type, "Planes" has wit, warmth and heart. The plot is simple - Suave ad man Neal (Martin) tries to get home for thanksgiving with his family but encounters frustration at at every turn. To top this off, fate decrees that he spend most of his travel time with well-intentioned but eternally irritating Del (Candy). Candy and Martin seem made for their roles. Candy is perfect as never-ending talker and shower-curtain ring salesman Del (we've all met him!) and Martin is solid as the serious ad-man. Film is full of hilarious moments - Candy and Martin watching their final mode of transport (a car) literally going up in smoke; waking up snuggled up against each other on their first night (one bed in the last room in the last hotel complex) and freezing together on the back of an open truck - but also its tender moments displaying Del's vulnerability. I noted that film critic Leonard Maltin criticised the awful music score, but to me, this is representative of the tone of the entire trip. Film doesn't deserve the R rating I see that it has, despite the the notorious bad language scene. To me, this film exemplifies what quality family entertainment is all about - friendship prevaling against the odds and identifiable characters. John Hughes once again has his finger on the pulse as to what a mainstream audience will enjoy and this film is a credit to him and the stars. See it!
Rating: Summary: I've seen this one over and over again! Review: I stumbled across this movie when it was on TV here in New Zealand a number of years ago. I recorded it and watched it with a friend of mine, we've done so numerous times since. We quote lines from it all the time! - You can feel the frustration of Neil Page as he tries desperately to get home for Thanskgiving but stumbles time and time again upon the overwhelming willingness of Del Griffith who wants to help him. Nature and events hamper their progress to a home and family celebration. Images of turkey and all the trimmings are tugging at Neil's heart and mind but he must face the reality of being so close yet so far from his wife's embrace and the children he so loves. You can't help but like Del with his good nature, contagious laugh and a sad secret that causes him to use jokes as his defence. The shower scene, the bed scene, the rental car scene...there are SO many favourites! I laugh at them every time and would you believe I cry at the ending each time I see it??!! Some mightn't like this movie and see it as shallow but I think it's well written and it could almost sit comfortably in the 'Thriller' section at the video store! I've been trying to get the accompanying soundtrack to it as well but hitherto to no avail. HELP!!
Rating: Summary: VERY FUNNY! Review: A friend recommended this movie to me. I never heard of it before. So I rented it at the video store. Wasn't sure if I would like it or not. But, I could not stop laughing. I Loved it, from the 1st second of it to the last. It was so funny! I could not get some of those lines out of my head. Every time I think about them; I laugh. Candy and Martin are perfect for this movie. I have watched lots of John Candy movies, And this is definatly his best. A Very Funny movie.
Rating: Summary: SUBTLE HUMOR & BIG LAUGHS COMBINE MARTIN & CANDY ARE #1! Review: WITHOUT QUESTION, MY MOST WATCHED MOVIE! LITTLE KNOWN TO MOST PEOPLE, THERE ARE GROUPIE TYPES WHO KNOW THIS MOVIE, INCLUDING DIALOGUE INSIDE AND OUT. I PERSONALLY HAVE SEEN THIS MOVIE IN EXCESS OF 100 TIMES, AND FRANKLY FIND MORE THINGS TO LAUGH AT EACH TIME. THERE ARE QUOTES FROM THIS MOVIE THAT I USE DURING MY DAY THAT JUST POP-IN THERE IN THE RIGHT SITUATION. THE MOVIE WAS SO GOOD, THAT THE ORIGINAL UN-CUT VERSION INCLUDES JOHN CANDY ON THE PLANE DISCUSSING HIS "KOSHER MEAL" WHICH WAS EDITED FOR TIME OR CONTENT FROM THE THEATRICAL AND VIDEO VERSIONS-IT WAS SHOWN LAST YEAR (1997) ON TELEVISON! MY SUGGESTION TO VIEWERS OF THIS MOVIE---IF YOU THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNY THE FIRST TIME, CHECK IT OUT AGAIN AND AGAIN! THE SLAPSTICK COMEDY COMBINED WITH SUBTLE AND NOT-SO SUBTLE HUMOR WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH ALL OVER AGAIN. JOHN CANDY WILL BE MISSED!!!
