Summary: Over rated film
Review: "Being There" is a movie that has the potential to be a witty statement about our culture, but instead, ends up failing to live up to it's expectations.

The movie has Peter Sellers playing a simpleton who ends up befriending some rich and powerful people and becoming a national celebrity. The humour of the movie comes from the fact that the simple things that Sellers character says are misinterpreted as brilliant observations.

With that intriguing premise, the movie is off to a great start, but unfortunately, the picture never goes anywhere after this setup. The film, simply recycles this same idea over and over again until the film's ending. The viewer keeps expecting the picture to take off and go somewhere talking about American culture, or the media's fascination with celebrities, but it does'nt seem to have anything to say. What a shame.

Summary: Foreshadows the Reagan / Bush Era!
Review: This is the great comedy that bridges the 70's and 80's. It is actually very political (left-wing, in fact). Not only is it far better than Forrest Gump, it is a genuine product of the times in which it was made. And unlike Forrest Gump, it is much more accurate historically. And the final shot is a stroke of genius. Where Forrest Gump seemed like a pro-USA propaganda film (fascist, I think is the word), Being There is an intelligent satire of our media-saturated world. A must see!!

Summary: Words can't do this movie justice...you must see!
Review: I've read every review. Truly I can't be the only one who wonders if Chance was only a simple minded gardner? Didn't he walk on water in the end? Next time you watch this (and you will), rethink Chance's way of teaching us through his "simple ways." You might question whether the joke's really on the rest of us simpletons.

Summary: I like to watch
Review: Few films can touch you the way Being There does. It's a perfect blend, satire with hardship, laughter with tears. In a way, this is the pre- Forrest Gump Forrest Gump, except Peter Sellers' amazing performance as Chance lights up the screen. A must see.

Summary: Not Enough Stars
Review: This is one of the few videos I had to purchase at retail price-I hunt the pawn shops. Best Sellers movie of all times. Probably the best satire about our political system ever made. A must have movie for the intellectual movie buff.

Summary: Life is a state of mind
Review: Being There is not just Peter Sellers' best film; it is one of the greatest satires of all time. Other than the first-rate performances given by everyone involved, including Melvyn Douglas in an Oscar-winning role, the film also features stunning cinematography and a fine score.Being There is vastly underrated. If you have not seen it, make sure you do.

Summary: Chauncey Gardiner, a most brilliant man
Review: Chauncey Gardiner is a man that reminds us all of life's simple pleasures and of life's harsh realities we wish we never had to understand. He is not only innocent minded but is also very surreal. He is one of the most loveable characters ever to appear on page. After all, the mind of a child is not as threatening as one of an attorney or politician. He's so simple that he is ablsolutely brilliant. END

Summary: Peter Sellers' true masterpiece...
Review: Peter Sellers gives one of the most Oscar worthy performances of all time, in this simple, yet complex film. He plays the character of Chance so well, that it is hard to believe that the man portraying this otherwise simple character, is also one of the funniest and wildest actors ever to grace the silver screen. It is truly Peter Sellers' masterpiece, and my favorite film of all time... END

Summary: perfect
Review: simply put, one of the finest films ever made. Only the ending "2001: A Space Odyssey" compares to the spiritual and philosophical beauty of the finale to "Being There". END

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Better than gump
Review: Before Forrest Gump, there was Chauncey Gardner. This movie does what Gump never did: to show that simplicity is the best way to live life. Peter Sellers should have won the Oscar for this flick. END
