Summary: A Misunderstood Film of a Misunderstood Generation
Review: This movie is so fantastic, and, I beleive, a good movie for people of any age. The numerous pop-culture references do have the flavor of a certain American era, but the great humor in those references is timeless. You couldn't ask for a better cast, with Winona Ryder as Lelaina Pierce, a college valedictorian who learns that life can be rough to navigate even for someone as smart and hardworking as herself. Both Ethan Hawke as Troy and Ben Stiller as Michael are hysterically funny as drastically different characters who share nothing except a romantic love for Winona's character. This movie doesn't take itself too seriously-- it's just a really fun time.

Summary: Stereotyped Bid for Hipness
Review: Why are so many of these films that supposedly "define a generation" composed of nothing but media stereotypes and cliches? Sitting through this thing was like chowing down on a zweiback from 1979: simultaneously childish and stale. There were no insights into "our" generation that didn't seem gleaned by some fogey from back issues of Details Magazine, and the characters were so thoroughly bratty and loathsome I wanted them all to get fired and locked in some dusty Gap storeroom. "Capturing the Zeitgeist" aside, it wasn't even believable as an ordinary movie about people. Everyone was a cliche (slacker genius, yuppie, wounded gay, needy hedonist...), and the situations unlikely without being funny.This should be a lesson to film-makers who script condescending movies about a youth culture they don't understand: get at least something right. If you're hopelessly unhip, at least try to engage our interest with a good story or fresh characterizations. If you have no orthodox film-making talent, show us something new about ourselves. This sham does neither.

Summary: I thought it was a GREAT movie.
Review: I thought it was a great movie because that is how reality is for some people.I think Ethan Hawke is a total cutie and that Winona Ryder is so lucky. My favorite part in the movie was when Lelaina and Vicki were dancing in the store to that really stupid music.I think that it's the kind of movie that you could see twice.

Summary: Reality hits close to home
Review: Reality bites marks the directorial debut of a guy that may become the next Woody Allen. With A great cast that includes the wonderful Janeane Garofalo in her best role to date as the best friend facing A life or death situation. This is the kind of movie that all students about to graduate high school or college should see to help them prepare for the reality of the real world.

Besides having great unique characters this movie is about how Reality does Bite sometimes, and is full of funny lines, mostly by smart aleck Troy Dire..."You look like a doilly."

Summary: One of the best movies I have ever seen!
Review: This is one of the best movies that I have ever seen. It is a big appeal to Generation-X, and also with teenagers. It is the story of some kids who just graduate from college and deal with relationships, feelings, and "the real world". It also had a fabulous cast with well acted characters. The fact about this film is that you will either love it or hate it. Just give it a try, and I think you will be happy.

Review: Kinda strange how a film from the nineties can already seem so outdated. You can make this movie more fun by seeing who can spot the most product placements, whether in the dialogue or visual. Certainly out of touch with anything having to do with reality. Ethan Hawke is looking pretty greasy and gross, but it was nice to see that even grunge can't ruin Winona Ryder. God, what a babe.

Summary: Reality Does Bite, but This Movie Rocks
Review: In what was perhaps one of the most overhyped movies at the time, "Reality Bites" proves to be in the Zeitgeist of the mid- '90s but for different reasons than you might thing. It was not the movie that came to define a generation in story, tone, or soundtrack the way "The Graduate" captured the moments of its time (for that you should watch "Singles"). "Reality Bites" did, however, capture the what was expected of the generation - to be unemployed, irrevent, speak in a pop-culture lingo, and wrestle with the meaning of irony. In spite of what expectations were placed on the generation (or the movie), "Reality Bites" remains funny ten years later. Watch to see the last of Winona Ryder's great roles as she struggles with her relationship with Ethan Hawke. Enjoy the moment when we are introduced to Janeane Garofalo as she shimmies to "My Sharona." And enjoy the film that brought Ben Stiller into the mainstream as a leading actor. The anniversary DVD is a great opportunity to rediscover the movie and appreciate the on-screen appearences of up and coming Gen-X Hollwood - David Spade, Renee Zellweger, and Steve Zahn all appear. And be sure to check out Lisa Loeb's music video for "Stay," as directed by Hawke.

Summary: Indeed, Reality Bites
Review: If this is the generation I am supposed to belong to, I want to disown it. Ben Stiller's directorial debut centers on four friends recently graduated from collage, and are now trying to find their way in the world. The movies messege is that we are a lost generation, but that is not are parent's fault (where this movie tries to lay the blame). The kids in this movie are just lazy, more or less. And they spend their free time trying to make meaning out of their lives. Indeed, Troy (Ethan Hawke) even tries to ratinalize stealing a candy bar by saying society ows him. Winona Ryder plays waify Lelina, who makes a documentry out of recorded footage she has of her friends. One day she meets Michael (Ben Stiller) who is their age but has made a good career out of the TV industry. Ethan hates him for his honest approach to life, and so the battle for Lelina's love begins. I really wasn't too impressed with this movie, it just made it seem like my peers are just wallowing in self pity for the sake of being the cool, tortured artist; when they should get off the couch and go get a job.
