Rating: Summary: Hilarious! Review: This is a film about fulfilling the most important dream one can ever have: losing your virginity. When I was a teenager, all of my friends were determined to lose their virginity, which is why I love this movie. The comedy is the best part. You cannot watch this and not laugh; it is too funny. Do you want to know my favorite scene? No, it is not the one in which Jim has a sexual encounter with his mother's pie (although it is a very funny scene); my favorite scene is the one in which he tries to have sex with his date but doesn't succeed because of his -- what shall I call it? -- shortcomings, why not? This is a great film, and I am glad I own it. If you enjoy a naughty comedy like this one, get it as soon as you can!
Rating: Summary: Actually gets boring Review: This movie just didn't have it. I wanted to love it (and laugh) but it just didn't ring true. Pales miserably compared to recent-year comedies like "Bowfinger" and "There's Something About Mary", each of which have more laughs in 10 minutes than this whole film does. Don't waste your time.
Rating: Summary: Finally...A 90's Teenage/Coming of Age Movie! Review: We had dozens of them in the 80's - The Breakfast Club, Valley Girl, just about any John Cusack movie, but nothing before or since American Pie in the 1990's captured the essence of what makes a good Teenage/Coming of Age Movie. You've got lots of humor, good acting, believable characters, drama, and a touch of angst. I can't say enough good things about this movie except that I bought the DVD before I got a DVD player. If you haven't seen it stop what you're doing and see it.
Rating: Summary: Very funny but disappointingly banal Review: A hilarious but rather predictable coming-of-age movie. The theme has been exhausted by countless predecessors. The ending can be spotted from as early as the first twenty minutes. The jokes and situations, though, are extremely funny and the movie is altogether an amusing and uplifting account of a universal situation - adolescent angst and sex-deprivation.
Rating: Summary: AMERICAN PIE WILL KEEP YOU LAUGHING Review: AMERICAN PIE IS THE CLASSIC TEEN FILM. THE PLOT, WHILE SIMPLE, IS TO NO LONGER BE A VIRGIN BY PROM NIGHT. THE MEANS TAKEN BY THE CHARACTERS ARE H ILARIOUS. MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS WERE JIM, HIS FATHER AND THE CHARACTER PLAYED BY ALLISON HANNIGAN. THEY WILL CRACK YOU UP! IT'S JUST SOMETHING ABOUT THE WAY JIM LOOKS AT THAT PIE. OZ, THE GUY WHO JOINS THE GLEE CLUB, IS ALSO GOOD. HE TURNS OUT TO BE REALLY SWEET IN THE END. WATCH THIS FILM AND YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPOINTED.
Rating: Summary: Not worth all the hype Review: Am I the only person on the planet who didn't find this movie that funny? Sure, it had its moments, but I've definitely seen funnier movies. This movie gave me a few little smiles, but I certainly wasn't laughing out loud. For me, the problem lied with the fact that the four main characters were all in high school and placing bets on when they were going to lose their virginity. Now, I know that goes on in high school, but for some reason, it just didn't sit right with me in this particular movie. None of the characters were very developed, but maybe they weren't supposed to be. I'm tired of the bodily fluid jokes that we've seen a hundred times before. The only really funny characters was the Bandcamp girl and Eddie Kaye Thomas. As for the exchange student scene--please, I don't know anyone who looks like that in HIGH SCHOOL. Give me a break. Anyway, if you want brainless humor, buy this one. If you want a real laugh, buy something from Kevin Smith.
Rating: Summary: good movie! Review: To be completly honest, when I was going to see this movie I didn't think it would be that good. Then I watched it, and I laughed. I laughed so hard and saw it three more times.
Rating: Summary: This was a funny movie Review: This movie was raunchy and funny at the same time with an underlying moral message to boot! The plot revolves around four guys trying to lose their viginity before the prom and the various ways they go about it. Some of the scenes are perverted, but isn't almost every movie about teenagers? The best story line was the one where the star jock joins the chorus to impress a girl and ends up delivering the moral lesson of the movie- sex is not as important as most teenagers would like to think. The actors did a great job and this movie never gets boring or slows down- a good, funny movie to watch.
Rating: Summary: gut buster Review: this movie is so funny, so true i could really relate to what my brothers and their friends must have gone through during their adolecence.
Rating: Summary: Freakin' Uprorious Review: I'm glad to see that the late 90's revived the 80's tradition of "high-schooler comedies". You know them as "Ferris Bueller", "Better Off Dead", "Wierd Science", and so forth. "American Pie" is the leader of the revival thus far. I laughed through this whole movie. It's amazing how creative and funny it is. I mean, OF COURSE the plot is derivitive, but the humor is not! The cast is fresh and talented. There are some truly priceless moments. It's one of those movies where every scene is funny or interesting. It's also pretty damn close to what kids act like in high school. I recommend it to just about everyone in their mid teens and up (believe me, moms, it's nothing they haven't seen or heard before). Children of the 80's will enjoy comparing it to that era's lost genre. Everyone will laugh. Shannon Elizabeth is my daily inspiration.
