Summary: Interesting story that falls kinda flat
Review: The idea of a young women befriending a little-girl is an interesting one. These types of friendships are rarely seen in movies now days. First I will say why I thought the movie was interesting and had good potential. I like the fact that Brittany Murphy's character does not focus her attention on continuing a possibly unhealthy relationship with Jesse Spencer's character. Instead she seems to be doing what makes more sense for her, such has coming to terms with her past and finally living her life more responsibly.
In regards to Dakota Fanning's character I like how even though she seems to be acting like she's all grown up and self-sufficient she still in fact has tendencies that reinforce what she actually is, a young girl. This became apparent when she stares at the tea cups when both girls go to the amusement park and starts to tear up. Perhaps at that moment realizing that she has wanted to and has missed out in having a typical fun childhood.
The problem that I found with the movie was that I felt it was too short. It did not seem to flow as well as I would have liked, the character development seemed to be evolving abruptly. The dialogue also suffer from abrupt communication style, with the characters working with one liners or phrases that kept them from more natural fluid conversations. I think Dakota Fanning is great, which was the main reason why I purchased this movie, but I don't think this movie showcases her range or capabilities as an actress (as seen in "I Am Sam"). I have my hopes up for her upcoming movie "Man On Fire."

Summary: Nominated for one of the Worst Films of 2003
Review: Uptown Girls didn't recieve any acamdemy or glode nominations but was nominated for one of the worst movies of last year...I hate to admit but I pre-orded seeing how I thought the little girl Dakota Fanning(she was also the little girl in I Am Sam) and I thought would entertaing...it was anything but....
The storyline is jumbled, confussing, and often on the verge of stupidity...everything from when little Dakota running away from her mother and Brittany Murphy finding her on the teacups at conney island...this movie it pretty obvious that it wanted to have some kind of dramactic affect but to do so failed miserabley...
Dakota does a decent job protraying the little girl who seems to act like she is over thirty and is destined for great things...Brittany Murphy was terribley cast for never grow up Molly who befriends Fanning and at times in the movie Murphy looks like she is coming off a heroine addiction...
The pre-teen and teen girl crowd will also hate this film.
Please save your twenty dollars!
This truley one of the worst films of last year!
I'll give one star because I have too and another one for Dakota Fanning who made this movie seem somewhat bearable.

Summary: you have got to be kidding
Review: one of the dumbest movies i have seen this year. It held no plot, and the seldom endearing moments were few and far between.
If you're in the mood for a comedy, look no further than Kate and Leopold!

Summary: Good movie!
Review: When I saw the trailors for this movie I thought it was going to be one of those sappy movies with predictable plot lines. However, human emotion and the meaning of family all come into play in this film. This role was a more serious spin for Brittany Murphy considering her other films such as 'Just Married', '8 Mile', and 'Clueless'. Murphy's chracter daughter of a dead rock star Molly, is faced with obsticles after losing all of her money. She has to turn to her friends but then realizes that she has to be an independent person a "grown up" all thanks to Ray. Molly also helps out Ray by letting her realize its ok to be a kid, try new things, and have fun. The idea of a family is absent in both of Molly and Ray's life and they deal with it in their own ways. Though at first Ray and Molly are not good friends they become close. The writting was original and meaningful. We learn a lot about each character and become sypmathetic for them. I was very impressed with Murphy's perfomance, hopefully we will see more serious roles in her future. I also hope to see young Dakota Fanning again, her acting is impressive at a young age. Excellent movie for all ages!

Summary: Sweet.
Review: I was interested in this movie all the way through. I watched this mostly because of Brittany Murphy, but then I was introduced to some fresh talent-Dakota Fanning. This sweet girl caught my attention with her beautiful performance here. This is a fairy tale story with a lesson to be learned. I even approve of the extras. There's a behind the scenes with the cast and I thought it was highly informative. Don't miss out on this one. My whole family liked it (ages range from 17-48), so you know that it's a pleaser for everyone.

Summary: Ugh
Review: I hated this movie I saw it in theatres with some of my best friends and we all had high hopes for it but what did we get a total mess that is what this movie was I hated it so much it was a waste of the three dollars I paid to see it. In the beginning we all were kinda giggling a little bit but at the end we were all yawning one of my friends fell asleep which is a bit weird because it was a three o'clock show. The premise of this movie is that this girl (Brittany Murphy) loses everything and needs to get a job so she gets a job as a nanny for this girl (Dakota Fanning) who is a little dull and likes things to be perfectly clean. I would not reccomend this to anyone unless you wanted to fall asleep or have a really bad day. I hope that this review has been helpful in your choice of whether or not to buy this product.

Review: Got stuck watching this with my wife and it wasn't that bad. If your going to have to watch a chick flick this isn't a bad one to sit through.

Summary: Cool family movie
Review: My fifteen year old daughter has seen this three times and really liked it a lot. I watched it with her the the last time, it's not really the type of movie I'd normally pick out for myself. That said, I found it to be a great coming of age story, and I love Murphy, she's really enjoyable on screen. It's actually a double "coming of age" story in a sense, both the girl and the woman need to mature and face life, and I found it a refreshing change from the normal coming of age story centered around a teenage boy or young man.

It's definitely a good family rental, or if you have daughters in the 10 to 16 range, it's probably worth owning. It's not just some dumb teen comedy, it is a solid story with a message and even through it is far from academy award stuff, it's a good flick.

Summary: "Not Worth seeing"
Review: Molly Gunn (Brittany Murphy) plays the attention starved, child at heart heiress of her dead rock star father. When Molly's accountant takes all her money she takes up a job babysitting a mature little brat Ray (Dakota Fanning) who is unhappy to see Molly. Uptown Girls is just another one of Brittany Murphy's many sad attempts at acting a lead role to a mediocre bore-fest. The laughs just don't seem to go where Brittany Murphy is but rather to where Dakota Fanning is. Dakota Fanning was the only semi-interesting character. She made the film worthwhile and a little interesting unlike the dried out star Brittany Murphy who looks like she needs sleep every so often.
The laughs are rare and the jokes are plain but not as overdone as the film's very cliché plot. Unless you laugh at just about everything you see you probably won't find Uptown Girls funny. My advice would be for Dakota Fanning to keep up the good work and for Brittany Murphy to get some sleep. This is more of a "Love it or hate it" type movie.
During the first 15 minutes of this flick I knew right then and there that Uptown Girls was going to be bad. The acting was typical, the jokes have been overdone and the dialogue was bad. What's there to like? Uptown Girls is hard to watch in many ways and I was uninterested by it since its release. When I bought it I knew I wouldn't enjoy it. This is the type of movie you rent when there is nothing else to watch. My advice would be to avoid Uptown Girls unless you can't find anything else to watch. I found it to be just like any other teen comedy. Uptown Girls is overall moronic and uninspired.
The DVD features weren't bad and I can't complain as far as the DVD goes but why even bother with the features when The DVD isn't worth seeing?

Summary: Funny and Nice
Review: Maybe this is not "The Best Movie of the Year Award" but all movies can not be made for adults, this is a 8 to 12 year old movie. People have already talked about the substance of the movie and all its components, all I have to say is that I had a very good time watching it and I did cry. If you put yourself in the shoes of this caracters you can feel the joy and pain they live. Growing up is hard and letting go is even harder, this movie expresses exactly that; while showing love between to completely different people that are very much alike.
