Summary: My Pick for "Best Picture" in 1996!
Review: Films don't get much better than this! -- Jack Nicholson shines as successful novelist suffering from obsessive-compulsive disorder, who is known mostly for his rudeness and excentricity. When he meets a waitress (wonderfully portrayed by Helen Hunt) whose biggest worry is how to care for her severely ill son, he treats her like everybody else: rudely! When Nicholson's neighbor, a gay artist, is brutally beaten and robbed, Nicholson softens, helping the financially stapped crime victim, as well as Hunt's son. Confused by these extraordinary acts of kindness, Hunt does the only thing logical: she falls in love with Nicholson. -- This is a beautiful love story. Both leads won Oscars for their performances. This is a don't miss film!

Summary: This Movie Is Definitley As Good As It Gets
Review: It's a shame that Hollywood doesn't make great films/comedies like these anymore. That's more reason to treasure a movie gem like this one. Jack Nicholson stars as a grumpy romance book author with obsessive compulsive disorder. He has taken a liking to a single waitress who is the mother of an asthmatic boy. He also starts a friendship(at first unwillingly)with his gay artist neighbor and the man's little dog. Jack begins to try to change his ways to impress the lovely waitress(Helen Hunt). The film goes through different stages of their love/hate relationship. His artist neighbor is horribly beaten up and Jack sort of takes to him, creating an odd friendship. The romance that eventually blossoms between Jack and Helen is a little questionable. Could this really happen?. The two performers are so perfect and believeable in these performances that they make you think that it is possible. Greg Kinnear as the neighbor is fantastic. He is not just the former host of "Talk Soup". What can you say about Jack?. He's the best. He deserved the Oscar he won for this. So did Helen Hunt. Her scenes crying to her mother were classic. This movie is hysterical at one moment, and then serious and romantic the next. It's a beautifully crafted and put together piece of cinema. Brilliant. See it right now!.

Summary: Nicholson at his best!
Review: My family and I love this DVD. If you don't already appreciate Jack Nicholson as an actor, this movie will certainly do it. It is a very funny movie with a touch of romance and drama. This is a must-see for anybody who wants to watch a 'feel good' flick.

Summary: Great Movie -- WEAK ending!
Review: The characterizations are great in this flick all the way through till about the last 45 minutes. Helen Hunt's character ending up with Jack Nicholson is repulsive, not only because of the superficail age difference, but because of his personality and how he treats her. There is a veild attempt at the end with a shot that shows him walking over cracks in the road that is supposed to show us all that "AWW!! HE CAN CHANGE!" well,I don't buy it.
Other than that, this movie was very good. Very solid performances by Helen Hunt and Jack Nicholson. Greg Kinnear was a bit uneven, but what can you do?

Summary: Bottom line: change-of-pace romantic comedy
Review: Pros: Jack Nicholson's acting; great overall acting; "Take your crazy somewhere else. We're all stocked up in here"; the dog; different from most romantic comedies.
Cons: None.

Summary: Very Good Indeed
Review: As Good As it Gets was one of the best films of 1997. Jack Nicholson serves up one of his best roles yet, and Helen Hunt is excellent. Greg Kinnear perhaps has the best performance of all, yet went unrewarded. The characters are well rounded and flawed, and the interaction is very realistic. The DVD is beautifully transferred, but the commentary is very dry. Definitely a nice edition of the film, but the extras are nothing special.

Summary: Yet Another Great Movie With Helen Hunt(and Jack Nicholson)!
Review: Okay, so what have we got? A hard-working, all American mom, a crazy man who eats at the resturaunt that she waitresses at, and the dramas, comedies and love (kind of) surrounding both of their lives. Helen Hunt and Jack Nicholson team up for an awesome performance in 'As Good As It Gets', a kooky romantic comedy that no one would expect to turn romantic if they had never seen the reviews! Helen is 'Carol', a harried waitress with a cute son who is perpetually sick. Jack is Melvin, an obsessive-complulsive writer who won't leave his house without observing numerous habits (locking and unlocking the door a certain number of times, for instance), and refusing to step on cracks, use resturaunt utensils... the list goes on and on. When Melvin's homosexual neighbor gets beaten up by burglars and is put into a state of depression, his neighbor's boyfriend beggs melvin to "Dog-sit" an adorable pooch, which Melvin can't stand. Needless to say, mix a dog, a man who is afraid of everything (and won't admit it) and a compassionate, but tired mother, surprises are inevitable!!!

Summary: As Good as it Gets.... Well, at least not very far away
Review: Jack Nicholson- one of the best male actors. Helen Hunt- one of the best female actors. What can go wrong? Nada. It's a perfect movie. And it's funny too!

Summary: This is about as good as it gets.
Review: JACK NICHOLSON plays Melvin Uedall in this romantic comedy AS GOOD AS IT GETS. After gay painter SIMON (GREG KINNEAR) is attacked by robbers, Simon's boyfriend (CUBA GOODING JR.) asks Melvin to watch the hospitalized man's dog. Now, without choice, Melvin is stuck with Verdel, the pint size pup who loves eating to music. And without any awareness, Melvin's relationship with the mongrol grows, as does his interest for his favorite waitress CAROL (Helen Hunt). Then, when Simon comes home from the hospital, he must take a trip down to his parents' to ask for money, so MELVIN invites CAROL along, in the hope of opening his heart to her- but he never knows how to say the right thing. Now Simon starts taking interest in CAROL, and so the battle begins between Heart, Beauty and Comedic Jerk.

MY REVIEW:

"Anyone who gives this movie less than four stars has problems. This is the most pleasurable romantic comedies I've ever seen. Greatfully, JACK NICHOLSON won BEST ACTOR for his role as the love junkied novelist Melvin, who knows exactly what he wants, he justs says it in a way that makes the people wanna punch him in the face...

FOR INSTANCE:

Melvin always sits at the same table for breakfast everyday so CAROL can wait on him. Well, this couple is sitting there talking to each other and Melvin strolls on up to him.

Instead of asking them how long they'd be or if they would like to sit at another table he says:

[Something having to do with people who talk about that] "ought to shampoo my crotch."

Or when HELEN HUNT (Carol) asks Melvin (NICHOLSON) why he wanted her to come along on the trip, thinking he's going to finally tell her that he loves her, and that they can get together- Melvin replies.

"Well I thought you might have sex with Simon..."

So you see he does have issues, and says terrible things to people, and just can't handle being normal. He has to bring plastic eating utensils to eat at resturaunts. He wears plastic gloves when petting the dog. He only scrubs his hands once or twice with a bar a soap, then throws it away and gets a new one. Also, he turns the light switch five times when turning it on or off, as with locking or unlocking the door. He doesn't like others touching him. And he can never step on a crack or line in the ground.

"Overall: This very entertaining sweetheart movie is so hilarious, I could die laughing everytime I see it! NICHOLSON is just too funny! HELEN HUNT is fabulous and deserved her BEST ACTRESS OSCAR for this movie! CUBA GOODING JR. is funny- as well as the beautiful worded "SIMON", or as Melvin puts it... "SIMON the Fag." This great comedy is definetly one that all women will enjoy, and one that will croak up laugh after laugh. So buy this DVD today, for one of the greatest true to heart stories ever created."- MJV & the Movies.
