Summary: Excellent
Review: I'm not a big Nicholson fan, and I don't go to see "chick flicks" unless I have to, but this movie surprised the heck out of me. Jack Nicholson was perfect and the movie does not fall into the "chick flick" category at all, as it was billed in the ads.

The movie had an excellent story, was funny, clever, touching and very well paced. It's rare to find a movie that accomplishes great humor solely through wit rather than stirring in insults, sexual innuendoes or gags to fill the dull moments. Nothing racy, no climax scene, yet the movie doesn't lose your complete attention for a moment; all this with wit to spare.

Summary: A Film to be Watched
Review: I saw this movie a while ago, but just recently saw it again. Nicholson is breath-taking, the storyline is beautiful and very well written, the cast is a marvelous cast and everything was the way it should have been...except one little thing: Helen Hunt. I personally do not think she deserved an Oscar for her performance, even thought she did a remarkable job. She really brought her character to life and it was beautiful to watch. However, she did seem a bit too dramatic at times, and instead of reciting her lines normally, she recited them as if they were something from a Shakespeare drama. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Shakespeare, but she just couldn't get the feelings across realistically enough for me. It felt like she was faking it and trying too hard. BUT, because this movie is one of the best, I'm only taking away one star for that minor detail, which, in my mind, does not really distract from the true nature of the story or its meaning. So watch, enjoy and know that I'm only trying to be as honest as possible.

Summary: QUIET DECENCY
Review: I am going to get sick using this word, but here it goes. This story is indeed about what happens when a decent woman confronts the meaning of a truly altrusitic act by a quietly decent man, and decency that unfolds when she pursues.

Summary: The dog was the best thing about this picture
Review: This is probably the first movie to address Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder,a serious mental illness, and I give it high marks for doing that, because OCD is really no laughing matter. And,Jack Nicholson didn't deserve the Best Actor OscarTM for this role.Robert Duvall should have won for his terrific performance in the overlooked and underrated "The Apostle".After all,Nicholson had already won the award twice before,(for the classic "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" in 1975 and for "Terms of Endearment" in 1983).

One of the best lines in the movie is when Nicholson's character Melvin asks some people in a waiting room who are about to attend a support group,"What if this is as good as it gets?" And,that cute little dog was the best thing about this picture.

Summary: Fun, subtle, and undemandingly comic character study
Review: Hollywood making a low-key character study about a tumultuous relationship between an obsessive-compulsive and a waitress? Without the presence of Jack Nicholson, it's unlikely that "As Good As It Gets" would have achieved as much success were it merely a critically acclaimed 'indie-flick'. As it is, it's a big-brained blockbuster with a heart, and that's quite possibly more of an achievement than a mere decent 'indie' film (of which there are many). Intelligently plotting the growing compassion between Melvin Udall and Carol Connelly - played almost note-perfectly by Nicholson and the adorable Helen Hunt - "As Good As It Gets" is successful as a character study, and also as a wonderfully touching romantic comedy. The relationship between the two is pitched just right, and is so believable that upon a second viewing, it's still gripping to see how the two manage to become....you know. If this sounds a little predictable, then it is, but only because the medium of "romantic comedy" dictates a certain denouement that is blindingly obvious. The most successful romance stories engage their audiences in the construction of relationships, and fortunately, the denouement here is subtly open-ended. There are no sex scenes, there are no moving declarations of love, just the honest awkwardness of life carefully slapped onto celluloid. It's everything a comedy should be, it's everything a character study should be, and everything a romance should be. In short, "As Good As It Gets" is almost instantly a classic, engaging movie.

Summary: The dog deserved an OSCAR too !
Review: The dog goes a long way to making this movie as entertaining as it is besides the fine performances by Jack Nicholson, Helen Hunt and the neighbour. The movie has many messages in it and particularly shows how a cranky old man can be tamed. I held off seeing this movie up until last month as I don't like Helen Hunt's acting style but after seeing this I thought she did a fine job. 'As Good As It gets' is a very refreshing movie although drags a little in the middle. That is my only reservation about it. Does anybody know if the dog is a Shih-Tzu? A friend wants to get one just like it.

Summary: DOING GOOD CAN MAKE LIFE SO WONDERFUL
Review: JACK, YOU DID IT AGAIN, A WONDERFUL MOVIE. HELEN, YOU WERE GREAT. NO WONDER THEY WON THE AWARDS. THIS MOVIE WILL TOUCH THE SOFT SIDE OF YOUR HEART AND THE FUNNY SIDE OF YOUR MIND. IT, ALSO, MAKES YOU WANT TO DO SOMETHING GOOD FOR SOMEONE WHO NEEDS AN EXTRA BOOST IN THEIR LIVES. I LOVED THIS MOVIE, WILL WATCH IT OVER AND OVER.

Summary: An accomplished romantic comedy .
Review: Jack Nicholson is absolutely superb as a totally obsessive and compulsive New York writer who eventually regains basic values through chance encounters with waitress Helen Hunt and his neighbour Gregg Kinnear , who also happens to be gay .

Definately a superior romantic comedy , where the entire cast provide acting performances of the highest quality , borne out by the fact that both Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt were awarded Oscars for their respective rolls and although Gregg Kinnear did not recieve an Oscar he was nominated , as was the picture .

At times it can get a little emotional but primarily it is just an extremely funny , feel good most of the time ,type of movie .

Summary: A nice relaxed romantic-comedy-drama
Review: A very funny and dramatic film. It's one of those movies that just makes you smile. It's a relaxing film starring Shirly Knight, Harold Ramis, Cuba Gooding Jr., Greg Kinnear, Helen Hunt and Jack Nicholson.
