Summary: As good as Young Frankenstein, but different.
Review: This is probably the most hilariously joke-filled Mel Brooks film, contrasting with his more complete films such as Young Frankenstien, which uses more funny ideas and concepts rather than one liners and visual jokes. Young Frankenstein managaes to be more high-brow and includes an actual plot, whereas this one is joke after joke. For a good trilogy, purchase Spaceballs, Young Frankenstein, and Robin Hood: Men in Tights. Then go buy Blazing Saddles and History of the World if you enjoyed those three. Don't by Dracula, Dead and Loving it, and if you've done so, burn it.

Summary: A hilarious Mel Brooks spoof of sci-fi movies!
Review: This movie is hilarious. Rick Moranis, Mel Brooks and George Wyner (as Colonel Sandurz) just steal the show as the hilarious Spaceballs. Bill Pullman (Lone Starr) and Daphne Zagna (Princess Vespa) are not very good and John Candy (Barf) is decent. I don't know why people say that Blazing Saddles is a really good movie and say this movie is really dumb. This just spoofs sci-fi movies instead of westerns.

Summary: I love this!
Review: All of Mel Brooks' films are great, but this has to be one of his best! This and Blazing Saddles (Also directed by Mel Brooks) are my 2 all-time favorite movies.

Summary: Funny as hell!
Review: A spoof on star wars and other sci-fi movies, what else could you want? Mel Brooks is one of the funniest actors/directors in the buisness, all his movies are worth watching. This movie has a good story that keeps you laughing the whole way through. Whether it is the shwartz, or pizza the hutt, this movie is great. If you are a fan of Mel Brooks, or just want to laugh, buy this movie.

Summary: A Perfect and Hilarious Comedy.
Review: This is one of my Favorite movies, it's from Mel Brooks and he is such a Comic Genius. It's a parody of Star Wars, Alien, Star Trek, Transformers: The Movie, and other Sci-fi movies. It's about a Diabolical runt named " Dark Helmet" ( Rick Moranis)
who plans on stealing a Planet's Air but it's up to Brave
" Lone Star" ( ID4's Bill Pullman) with companion " Barf"
( John Candy) to stop this fiend. It also stars Dom De Luis,
Dick Van Patten, John Hurt, Mel Brooks and Joan Rivers in a Star-Studded Space Trip that will excite you and leave you laughing for more.

other similar movies i would recommend: Galaxy Quest and The
Fifth Element.

Summary: Believer in the Force? Trekki? then watch THIS!
Review: Star Wars, Star Trek, Bug Rogers, Planet of the Apes fans heads up. This DVD is a must for every fan of the previous mentioned movies who does not take his "fan-ship" to serious.
This movie is a well done "persiflage" (I hope my french was right hehe) of all of them. The best Mel Brooks movie ever.

Summary: The Force Ain't With Ya
Review: Don't be suckered: SPACEBALLS is a movie that only a very young and slightly stupid teenage boy addicted to bad-taste jokes could love. It is badly directed, scripted, performed, and completely uninspired throughout, and it marks the beginning of Brooks' decline as a film maker. Fans of the brilliant but often erratic Brooks will be much better served by his earlier work. Buy THE PRODUCERS, BLAZING SADDLES, YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, or SILENT MOVIE instead!

Summary: Mel Brooks' high water mark since "Young Frankenstein"
Review: ...

Against this backdrop comes "Spaceballs", a sendup of not only the "Star Wars" saga, but also throws in references to a few other sci-fi movies as well. It isn't the comedic masterpiece that "Blazing Saddles" is, but it is definately his best work since the mid 70s. The film is aided by the fact that it is only trying to be a spoof, rather than trying to make a point, like some of Brooks' less successful efforts have tried to do.

The biggest suprise in "Spaceballs" is Rick Moranis. I never thought that he was a particularly strong actor until this film. He does a terrific job as the evil Dark Helmet and has the right mix of appearing to be serious and coming off goofy. John Candy (Barf the mog), and Daphne Zuniga (Princess Vespa) also put in great performances. The rest of the cast, including Brooks' pair of characters (the President and Yogurt) provide a decent, if unremarkable supporting cast. Lorene Yarnell of Shields & Yarnell is even in here, and you can guess whose part she played.

The script is fairly well written, although more crass than previous Brooks' efforts, and serves as a decent vehicle for all the jokes and gags. Some of them will make you groan, but most will make you laugh. There are enough clever gags here to entertain for the entire length of the film.

"Spaceballs" is proof that Mel Brooks can still make a very funny movie.

Summary: One of Brooks best
Review: Spaceballs is one of the funniest movies I own and is currently eclipsed in my collection only by Blazing Saddles and Its a mad mad mad world. It the greatest scifi comedy poking fun at many many scifi moives first and formost star wars but there are plenty of trek jokes as well as few poking at Alien and Planet of the Apes amoung others. If you do not own this and you have a dvd player go out and get it asap, you will not regret it.
