Summary: A fireball of fun from the start
Review: Who would think that widower Andrew Sheppard's (Michael Douglas)decision to date Sydney Ellen Wade (Annette Bening) would cause such a scandal? Normally that wouldn't make every news reporter jump. Except when Andrew Sheppard happens to be the President of the United States and Sydney Ellen Wade is a liberal lobbyist. And did I mention that it is an election year?

As President Sheppard's character ratings falling from personal best 68% to the low 40's, his interests become torn between the crime bill (his top priority) and Sydney's-passing Energy Bill 455. And it is up to the White House staff members A.J. MacInnerey (Martin Sheen), Lewis Rothschild (Michael J. Fox), Leon Kodak (David Paymer), Robin McCall(Anna Deavere Smith) to help him maintain focus against his rival, Bob Rumson (Richard Dreyfuss)

Filled with humor and unforgettable moments, you will not be able to watch The American President just once. The word 'charming' does not do enough justice to this wonderful piece of work.

Summary: ELEGANT
Review: I don't have much more to add to the previous reviews. But the acting, writing, direction, drama, romance, and comedy of this film blend together in a way that I think is best described as elegant!

You want a lesson on how movie romance should be made? Just watch the scene where the President and his date are dancing and talking with each other during a state dinner at the White House. Pure magic!

And towards the end of the film, the two monologues about leadership; one by Michael J. Fox's character and the other by the President should be required viewing in any civics class (if civics are even taught anymore!).

Looking for just the right romantic movie to watch with your sweetheart as you curl up together on the sofa beside a roaring fire?...

This is it!

Summary: "The American President"
Review: This is an absolutely fantastic movie -- I recommend it to all. Rob Reiner created a film that makes politics interesting and a romance enthralling. A perfect touch of sattire, sass, drama, comedy, and romance all bundled into one of the best movies I've ever viewed. A flick I could find myself watching from beginning to end several consecutive times, without getting bored. The writing, direction, and perfect cast make "The American President" a definite must-see in my book!

Summary: Irresistable . . .
Review: it's that rare movie that is not saccharine or sickeningly sweet, yet somehow, you can't even hate the bad guys. . <smile> The story is decent, the script good, the acting and chemistry are right on. . . this is one I can watch over and over and over.

Summary: What a GREAT movie!
Review: This is a great, feel good movie...Micheal Douglas is wonderful as the President, but the scene stealer is Annette Bening...she is wonderful as the lobbyist who "one minute (I) was calling him a mockery of an environmental leader, the next I had a date." An amusing look at the political arena when confronted with matters of the heart...

Summary: A feel good romantic movie
Review: Michael Douglas and Annette Benning's chemistry made the movie a movie to watch. It's always fun to see the political arena in a upbeat light. If you haven't seen it, rent it and curl up with a bowl of popcorn. You just feel good when the movie is over. We need more movies like this. Fun romance, silly politicians, just an all around cute story.

Summary: Nice story to watch over and over
Review: This is one of my all-time favorite movies. Michael J. Fox is hilarious, Michael Douglas and Annette Benning have great chemistry, Martin Sheen is a great Chief of Staff (perhaps a precursor to his current TV show?), the young actress who plays the president's daughter is exceptional. A great movie for when there's nothing on TV or you want a nice, feel-good movie after a rough day.

Summary: Benning is as always excellent!
Review: I have the DVD of this film and I've watched it numerous times. The film is very entertaining and a fun look at life in the White House. Michael Douglas is entertaining as a widower president, but Annette Benning steals the show as the environmental lobbyist he falls in love with. She's bright, whitty, just goofy enough... but also elegant. She's an actress of the best calliber and I do hope she wins her much deserved Oscar this year for American Beauty.
