Review: Ok, I haven't seen the movie so I wont comment on that but I would like to say that it is not fair to comment on the weight of a character when your suppose to rate a movie. I personelly am not going to listen to all the negative remarks considering that not a one is a valid reason why not to rent the movie. I have seen so many movies that are basically wrote with the same story line and they were all good movies. I will buy the movie and watch it because I, just like everyone else, love a good romantic comedy. Even if I know how it is going to end.

Summary: Sweet Reese
Review: Okay, we can see this movie coming a mile away. We know every single twist and turn it will make. We already know the outcome just after seeing the trailer. Why do we know this?. Because we've seen this movie before. In fact, we've seen it hundreds of times. It's as if it took out the blueprint of every romantic comedy like this and followed the same pattern from point A to point B and to point C. The best part of the movie?. It's star of course, Reese Witherspoon. Reese has sort of become like Drew Barrymore. Cute, charming young actresses who have a certain nitch for a type of role and movie that centers around females. We saw Drew do it in "Ever After" and "Never Been Kissed", and now Reese is following that with "Election", "Legally Blonde", and this film. She, and with co-star Josh Lucas, are the two saving graces for this film. It's not bad. It's not bad at all. It's cute and sweet and watchable, but we've just seen it so many times before. Reese plays Melanie Carmichael, a hot shot new fashion designer(think Stella McCartney, who is also mentioned in the film)living in New York City. She is dating the slick and smooth son(Patrick Dempsey), of the mayor of New York City(nicely done by Candace Bergen). One night, he proposes to Melanie in Tiffany's and she accepts. His no nonsense mother is none too pleased. However, there's a hitch. Melanie flies back down to her hometown in Alabama to settle some business. She and her former husband Jake(Josh Lucas), haven't actually gotten divorced. She sends the divorce papers, and he just keeps sending them right back. Melanie, who was once one of the crowd in this good 'ol southern town, now stands out as if she is somebody different. She is. It takes time in her hometown, and being with her parents and old friends, to get Melanie to realize and remember who she was...and still is. This, of course, sets up moments between Mel and Jake that will make the audience either smile because it's charming, or groan because they can play this film in their head without ever having to watch it. The movie is pleasant, but it isn't overly funny. The only funny line belongs to one of Mel's friends in a bar saying why she brings her baby into the bar. The actors, however, stand out more than the film itself. Reese is a wonderful and engaging actress. She is always likeable and credible. If only she had a much better movie to really wow us with. Josh Lucas is a good actor. He's not a non hick 'actor' playing a southern hick, he is the guy. Accent and all. He does a nice job. Candace Bergen is a real pro and she is good as always. Patrick Dempsey has come a ways from his "Can't Buy Me Love" and "Loverboy" teen days, and he is shaping up to really break that old 'teen' career of his. Fred Ward and Mary Kay Place play Melanie's parents. The rest of the cast include "Designing Women"'s Jean Smart, and Ethan Embry, who was seen in "Dutch" and "Can't Hardly Wait". The film was competently directed by Andy Tennant. The other good thing about this film is the scenery. The film is shot well and the southern town is really beautiful. A nice little bonus there. One bad thing they did was make the Melanie character kind of unlikeable in the beginning. She comes back home in her ritzy duds and all that, and doesn't show a lot of care towards anybody. It's a bad thing when your main character is someone who the audience won't really like. Of course, they needed to do this so her change towards the end(and we all knew it was coming), would resonate more. All in all, it's a nice little movie that has it's charms, but it is nothing that hasn't been done a million times before. And better.

Review: Sorry, I'm a guy! This movie was just not good, if you are female and enjoy the typical chick flick then buy this. I enjoyed the twist on the usual plot, this time it is a woman who is after more then one guy and not a he whore. Unlike most movies like this you end up really hating the person she leaves, not in this one. Both guys are really great, but nonetheless she proceeds to emotionally scare both of them from beginning to the end! At the end of these movies you expect the main character to learn a lesson, not in this one. Nothing changes she just chooses, that hurt the movie for me. Again, if you are a guy don't watch, it will give you headaches.

Review: I enjoyed it - a nice chick flick where the good guy wins the girl in the end. Not much of a plot - pretty predictable - I felt like they must have cut some important scenes. Good movie for all of us dreamers out there who still believe in true love.

Summary: Very disappointed...
Review: With all the hype and somewhat interesting previews (and the simple fact that I really do enjoy Reese Witherspoon's acting), I thought it was safe to buy the DVD sight unseen! Wow...I was so disappointed in this movie! I felt that the plot was poor and lacked direction. An hour into the movie, my girlfriend and I (yes, this was our pathetic, dateless Saturday nite...haha) both looked at each other and said, "Where is this movie going??!!" I felt like its only redeeming quality WAS the acting, although I felt that "Melanie" and her husband totally lacked the romantic chemistry needed to make this movie believable. I then let my sister and her boyfriend borrow it and watch it, and guess what? They had the same opinion!! But...if you don't believe me, watch it and see for yourself! This was NOT one of Reese's best movies!!

Summary: Very predictable movie
Review: This movie was a real flop. It was predictable from the get go. No creativity or imagination can be found in this movie. It is not worth the 3 or 4 dollars it would cost to rent it. I very much enjoyed Legaly Blonde and was expecting a similar level of enjoyment. What a let down. Also it would seem that Ms. Witherspoon has shed enough pounds to lower herself from a very attractive woman to a gaunt stick...very sad.

Summary: Very Sweet!
Review: I just have to say that, Sweet Home Alabama was a great romantic comedy! The story line was great and it was a good reminder, to all, to remember your roots. The actors were great! All of them! That Josh Lucas (Jake) was great in his role and I was truly touched by his humor and sensitivity. I hope to see him in leading roles in the near future!
Although the movie did have a predictable ending, I found myself hoping Melanie would end up choosing Jake, whom really loved her for who she is. There are some very funny scenes, like when Jake thought that he had locked Melanie out of the house, but forgot that she knew where the spare key was hidden! It was great, down to earth fun!
This is most likely more of a chick-flick, but great for those guys out there in-touch with their sensitive side.
I hope you enjoy this movie as much as I did!!

Review: This was a great movie. I loved it, my husband loved it and my preteen loved it. The ending was of course predictable but worth it! Reese Witherspoon was great in this movie and I am now a total fan of Josh Lucas. I would definitely recommend this movie!

Summary: A Cliche of a movie
Review: While watching this movie it became obvious that the writers have 1) never been to Alabama, 2) know nothing about fashion design and 3) tried to jam two movies together to make a mess.I won't go into a lot of boring details, but a movie like this should have had a charater that you cared about, instead of a witchy New York fashion designer (ha!), a bunch of flat Alabama characters and a overplayed Mother-in-law. A complete waste of an evening, nothing endearing or rewarding - and the alternate ending was so bad! How could they have even considered this! Go rent something better.
