Summary: The Birdcage
Review: This movie is hilarious. I've only seen it a few times, and it gets even funnier every time. Robin Williams is a favorite, but Nathan Lane and Hank Azaria take the cake, in some of their best roles as of yet. The movie starts out by setting the scenes, characters and plot. A son wants to has invited his fiance and her family to dinner at his father's. What's so great is that this is a perfectly normal situation..... except the father is gay and the father-in-law is a senator against them. The son convinces his father to kick is obviously gay partner out and pretend to be the "average" father: good marraige, definitely strait! As you can only expect from Williams, the perfect plan gets stranger and stranger twists as it goes downhill. This is a great movie with LOL lines around every corner. A definite must see!

Review: A Gay Club Owner (Robin Williams) and his Lover (Nathan Lane) are going to Act Stright for the Club Owner`s Son (Dan Futterman) future in laws (Two Time Oscar-Winners:Gene Hackman and Dianne Wiest) to married the Conservative Polictican`s Daughter (Pre:Ally McBeal`s-Calista Flockhart).This is the American Version of the Popular French Film-La Cage aux Folles. Delightful Comic Performances by Williams and Lane highlight This One. This film also has Supporting Roles from Christine Baranski and Hank Azaria. Directed by Oscar-Winner:Mike Nichols (Biloxi Blues, Carnal Knowledge, Catch-22) made a often Very Funny Film. At times Slow-Moving and Uneven at Spots but the Film does have Proven to be a Fine Comedy. One of the Highest Grossing Films of 1996. Grade:B+.

Summary: ANYONE With A Sense Of humor Will Find This Movie Hilarious
Review: It is really rare when I find a movie that I can just watch over and over again and crack up. The Birdcage is one of those movies. And to think I wouldn't have even seen it if my parents hadn't loosened up a little! I'm 13 and an only child, so my parents are real picky when it comes to what I can and can't see for movies. Since Birdcage has an R rating, my parents were taking a risk when they let me watch it. Well, all I can say is had my parents not taken that risk, I would've missed out on seeing one of the most fantastic movies ever made. I can actually watch this with my mom and not be embaressed, we fall over each other laughong every time! There are so many funny lines to repeat and no matter how many times you hear them, you hurt yourself laughing [Albert talking to Senator Keeley on how homosexuality is weakening the country: "You know, that's what I thought until I found out that Alexander the Great was a fag. Talk about gays in the military!"]. Classic! But all kidding aside, this movie teaches something about finding yourself and accepting yourself for who you are and about getting other people to accept you. Armand[Robin Williams, a gay man who owns a drag club], Armand's son Val[Sorry, I forget that actor's name], and Agador[Armand's housekeeper, also gay and in THE BEST part of his life] go insane trying to fix up the house to look more conservative, just in time for Val's fiancee Barbara[Calista Flockhart, right before she became Ally McBeal] and Barbara's parents Senator[Gene Hackman] and Mrs. Keeley[Dianne Wiest, who is perfect for this part]to come to meet Val's family. The road they take just to please the Keeleys is so funny, and when the Keeleys come for dinner, hold on to your stomach! The acting is top-notch. Nathan Lane is amazingly realistic as Albert the drag queen. I don't really like Robin Williams when he's acting like a total wacko, but here he's simmered down a little and he ROCKS! Gene Hackman and Dianne Wiest are perfect for their parts, and my only complaint is that Calista Flockhart's character Barabara didn't have many lines. The few times she does talk, she is also perfect for her part. Calista has the soft voice and sweet nature required for Barbara's part, although Barabara couldn't be more different than Ally McBeal! The fact that this movie teaches a lesson in learning to love yourself while splitting open your sides at the same time is brilliant, this movie is brilliant. Just Because I'm a kid, please do yourself a favor and rent or buy this film, I guarentee you won't be disappointed. Everyone should see this movie at some point in their lives, but wait until you're old enough to fully appreciate the message as well as the humor.

Summary: An absolutely hysterical movie!
Review: The Birdcage is one of my favorite comedy movies of all time. Robin Williams and Nathan Lane are outrageously funny as a gay couple whose son wants to marry the daughter of a extremely conservative senator. Robin Williams's character owns a drag club and Nathan Lane is the star. Their son wants his fiance's parents to think he has a "normal" family. When the parents meet, Nathan Lane appears dressed as "Mother Coleman". Hilarity ensues. I don't want to spoil too much of the movie, so that's all I'm going to tell you. Hank Azaria and Christine Baranski give fantastic supporting performances as the houseboy and the biological mother. Gene Hackman is wonderful as always as the stodgy senator. While the characters in the movie, especially the gay characters, are based on broad stereotypes, this is true of much comedy. What counts is that the results are marvelously funny. I highly recommend this movie.

Review: Since this movie has been released in the theater, I must have seen it at least 25 times. Robin Williams and Nathan Lane do such an awesome job in rolls that are completely opposite of themselves. You will be laughing from beginning to end in this film. There is a great story line involved and lots of well known actors/actressess appear in this movie. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to laugh!!!!

Summary: Dysfuctional Snobs Meet Harmoneous "Non-Traditional Family"
Review: Robin Williams and Nathan Lane have great "chemistry" as middle aged gay couple faced with a biggie: Their 20 year old son wants to get married and needs his "parents" to put on a phoney pretense for the ultra-conservative in-laws coming for a short-notice visit. Gene Hackman is fantastic as the right wing politician desperate to escape a career threatening scandal. Just to see him in drag at the end is worth the price for this DVD. Both the opening scene and the final scene are priceless. Inbetween you'll find a big barrel of laughs. This is a very funny film, and despite the "controversial" subject-matter, a family movie! -- The undelying message that a "non-traditional family" can be more loving and nurturing than a dysfuctional "traditional family" is a bit burried under all of the laughs. Though dealt with through great comedy, it is a serious matter to ponder. It makes us re-think what exactly we mean by "family values".

Summary: A Wonderful Comedy
Review: The Birdcage is a laugh riot from start to finish. I laugh just thinking about some of the scenes. Robin Williams and Nathan Lane star as lovers who run a Miami night club. Robin has a son from a previous relationship with a woman, played by the always reliable Christine Baranski. The son is getting married to a daughter of a politician. He wants his gay father to act straight when meeting the future in laws so as not to embarras him. The girl's politician parents are played by Gene Hackman and Dianne Wiest. Nathan Lane gives a stand-out performanc that is nothing short of brilliant. It was a huge shame and disappointment that he wasn't Oscar nominated for this. One of the funniest performances in years. Robin is definitley at his hilarious best. He is one of the most brilliant performers we have. Then there's Hank Azaria as their houseboy. Why doesn't this guy get more credit?. He's astoundingly talented. I have to admit that you'll really dislike the son. He's wanting his dad to change for him because he's embarrased. He comes across as a selfish jerk that you hate. That was the only part of the film that will turn off viewers. Future Ally McBeal star Calista Flockhart plays the bride to be. Hackman and Wiest are their usually solid, perfect selves. Do yourself a favor and see this and have fun busting a gut.

Summary: Robin must have had so much fun with this movie
Review: I don't know what's with this movie, but whatever it is, I like it. Robin (my favorite actor) and Nathan Lane must have had a blast working with each other. Mike Nichols has put together a side-splitting comedy about two gay men, one a part-time drag queen and the other the owner of the club where he works, who have for 20 years raised a son. Now that son wants to get married to a girl with EXTREMELY conservative parents, and the two men have to tone it down a little. And as you know from experience, asking Robin and Nathan to tone it down is like asking a fish not to swim for awhile.
This is a very enjoyable movie, and I give it a 4 star rating and recommend it to all of you. Especially fans of the actors!!
