Summary: Classic Stiller, Classic Comedy
Review: The complex world of the male modeling profession, including the inherent rivalries and the significant impact the industry has had on history is explored and revealed in 'Zoolander,' a brilliant comedy directed by and starring the versatile Ben Stiller. With chiseled features that bespeak the best of Michelangelo, as well as an arsenal of three 'looks,' preeminent of which is the riveting 'Blue Steel,' Derek Zoolander (Stiller) is poised to win the coveted VH-1 Male Model of the Year Award for an unprecedented fourth year in a row. But this year-- for the first time-- he has a rival, a newcomer, who just may be able to usurp his title: the charismatic and popular Hansel (Owen Wilson), who-- with chiseled features of his own-- has burst upon the scene only this year and threatens to steal Zoolander's thunder in one fell swoop. And as if this wasn't enough for the seemingly (until now) invulnerable Zoolander to have on his vapid mind, a reporter for Time Magazine, Matilda Jeffries (Christine Taylor-- Stiller's real-life wife), has written an in-depth article about him in which the true nature of the man behind the Adonis is objectively and succinctly revealed, and it's scheduled to hit the streets the week of the Awards. Suffice to say it's a full plate for Derek Zoolander, male model, who-- unbeknownst to him-- has yet an even greater personal vexation awaiting, which involves a sinister plot and the Prime Minister of Malaysia. The Prime Minister of Malaysia? And what-- you may ask-- does that have to do with the male modeling profession? Well, it's just that kind of movie...

Like a toothless attack dog that suddenly lunges at you and chomps down on your elbow, 'Zoolander' has a harmless bite that will grab your attention immediately and refuse to let you go. And like that dog it will continue to gum your elbow until it tickles your funny-bone and you become helpless to do anything other than pet it on the head and want to take it home with you. That's the effect of Stiller's film. It's an hilarious excursion through a world in which glitz, glamor and good-looks are the commandments by which to live, and one-on-one 'walk-offs' and break dance fighting are the realities which mask a degree of shallowness that is nearly unfathomable. All of which Stiller delivers in his own inimitable style, with subtle nuance and an instinctive sense of comedy that really makes this satire work. No one-- with the possible exception of Albert Brooks-- can set up a comedy and put it across as effectively as Stiller, who always plays it straight and never fishes for 'cheap' laughs. What he gives you is the real deal, and it's classic.

In Derek Zoolander, Stiller has created a character who manifests the myriad facets, ironies and idiosyncrasies of pop culture, offering a perspective that allows us to laugh, not only at Zoolander, but at ourselves, as well. And such a perspective is a rare and welcomed gift; for too often matters of insignificance are taken too seriously by too many, and it is at such times that we need a Zoolander among us to dispel the complexities we foist upon ourselves and to negate the self-imposed burdens that keep us in thrall to the most trivial things in life. Zoolander holds up a mirror and points out the furrow in your brow that simply doesn't have to be there. Stiller is a truly gifted artist who can make you laugh, think and feel good about yourself all at the same time. But like Chaplin and Fields before him, it will undoubtedly-- and unfortunately-- be some time before his true genius is widely and sufficiently recognized.

Owen Wilson, as well, is a talented actor/writer/performer who has demonstrated his own unique style in such films as 'Bottle Rocket,' 'Shanghai Noon' and 'Meet the Parents,' and here makes Hansel the perfect counterpart of Derek Zoolander. Hansel is the flip side of the same coin that carries the likeness of Zoolander; so different, yet cut from the same cloth. And, like Stiller, Wilson plays it straight, with a subtle delivery that is entirely effective. He and Stiller, in fact, are possibly the greatest comed-team-who-aren't-a-team in the history of the movies. Wilson has the driest delivery this side of Gene Wilder, his timing is perfect and his quirky looks and the timbre of his voice give him a veritably captivating screen presence. He brings Hansel to life with facility, and makes him a memorable character.

The supporting cast includes Will Ferrell (Mugatu), Jerry Stiller (Ballstein), Milla Jovovich (Katinka), Matt Levin (Archie) and features cameos by David Duchovny, Cuba Gooding Jr., Lenny Kravitz, Vince Vaughn, Jon Voight, Billy Zane, Natalie Portman, Winona Ryder, David Bowie, Andy Dick and Fabio. Already the second-greatest cult film of all time (behind Stiller's 'Mystery Men'), 'Zoolander,' like Stiller himself, is destined to be initially under appreciated, but in time will be recognized as the comedic masterpiece that it is. It's entertaining and funny, at times dark, but never offensive; and it's the kind of film that gets even better with repeated viewings. A true classic that will endure the test of time, this film is what the magic of the movies is all about, and one you do not want to miss.

Summary: MUCH funnier than expected - definitely worth seeing!
Review: Based on its previews, Zoolander looked like it could easily be just another low-brow slapstick comedy in an already over-crowded genre. After seeing the film, though, I was pleasantly surprised! There is an abundance of clever wit and silly satire throughout the movie, and I found myself laughing outloud on many occasions. Zoolander is without a doubt the best comedy I've seen in a theater in a long time. Highly recommended!

Summary: Hilarious
Review: Zoolander has got to be one of the most stupid but hilarious movies ever. Ben Stiller was awesome as Derek Zoolander, a male model who wants to change his life. As I said before, this movie was stupid, but it wasn't trying to be anything else. Zoolander was just an incredibly hilarious movie. If you are going to see this movie, do not go expecting a movie that will be up for oscars; just go expecting a movie to pick you up and make you feel better ( and smarter). Also you have to pay attention when Zoolander talks, because he gets his words wrong and some of them are hard to understand. Go see this movie, if you want to have a good time. ( If you don't want to use your brain, you should see Don't Say A Word, too)

Summary: Zoolander
Review: I give this spoof two enthusiastic thumbs up! I usually don't expect much from spoofs except for some puerile humor (example: Scary Movie), but this one was surprisingly well acted. Especially Owen Wilson: He played his part with real feeling and expression, almost as if it were a dramatic role. Ben Stiller was (as always) the clown. He's getting very good at portraying that kind of cartoonish character. I'm at the point that I'll see any comedy that has him in it.

It is an unusually excellent spoof. Go see it.

Summary: Strangly Enjoyable...
Review: Oh no..Its one of those movies..Youll either love it or hate it.I can see why alot of people DONT like this movie much.Lack of storyline, just being too stupid, and wondering what the movie was aiming for.But seriously when you walk into the theaters to see a movie about a "really, really, really"dumb male model is anyone really expecting a breakthrough movie?I know I dident have high hopes for this movie when I saw it.But then after the first few scenes I started laughing. This movie is actully very funny. And I usually shy away from too predicable silly movies.I guess becuase Im not used of characters like Derek Zoolander so I enjoyed the jokes more, just from the way he does them.Plus Jokes come when you dont expect it and some only a few people will notice or pick up on.Which I find pretty clever.I love the way Ben Stiller plays Zoolander...a self-centered male model, exstremely stupid...but adorable and inoccent at the same time.I wouldent REALLY compare this movie to Austin Powers becuase I never enjoyed Austin Powers at all.At least Zoolander is more grounded and isent that complicated. This movie is simple but fun to watch, when you dont have to think about it.But if it doesnt grab your attention,or the charaters arnt your thing, then you probably wont apprieate its humor as much as I did.Still unsure about Zoolander? Not really into silly comedys with no real moral? If so...Id wait till it comes to video. It worth seeing at least once.

Summary: Stupid does not mean funny
Review: Meet the Parents and There's Something About Mary were stupid movies because they were funny. Zoolander is just stupid and perhaps the worst Ben Stiller movie ever.

Stiller stars at Derek Zoolander, vaucous male model who is recruited by fashion industry thugs to kill the prime minter of Malaysia, because he plans to end child labor. Helping him in this effort is an equally vapid model, Hansel (Owen Wilson who usually gets much better roles than this) and Matilda, a crusading reporter (Stiller's wife Christine Taylor who will make you yearn for her Brady Bunch movie roles). Of the supporting players, Jerry Stiller is absolutley horrible, badly acting as the owner of a modleing agency. Stiller's mom Ann Meara is even in this, throwing an egg at a fashion desinger. If only we had the same opportunity.

The story really isan't about anything, it is a collection of jokes and bits that are mostly unfunny. One scene in Hansel's pad, is excrutiatingly long. There are cameos galore. David Bowie, Gwen Stefani, Fabio, and other Hollywood luminaries, here as window dressing or perhaps to pick up that much needed check. Hope they were paid scale.

Reviewers have compared this movie to Austin Powers. I would too. Austin Powers 2 that is. It is as equally unfunny as this mess. Stiller almost appears to be trying to copy Jim Carrey's clipped dialogue in "Cable Guy", which looks like "Citizen Kane" next to this dreck.

Ben Stiller forgot that if you are going to make a comedy, at least make it funny. I gave it 2 stars because that is how many times I laughed.

Incidental note - the World Trade Center was removed digitally from the New York Skyline. I applaud the filmakers for this sensitivity. It is the only applause they will get from me.

Summary: Ben Stiller is the man!!!
Review: Zoolander is one of the funniest and stupidest movies of the year. I love stupid movies. Its a great spoof of the life of a model. It also spoofs off of great movies like enemy of the state, the godfather, and 2001. by the way the 2001 spoof is one of the funniset parts in the movie. Will Ferrel as always is awesome i can't wait untill he gets a movie all to himself. There is one scene in the movie that outstays it welcome and most people will hate it. Its the scene in which Zoolander gets hipnotized at first the hypnotizem is really funny but it just gets real annoying. Zoolander is stylish, funny, and worth while for people who love stupid movies. I hope to god there is a sequel!!

Summary: Funniest movie of the year. Hilarious!
Review: I'm usually not the type to laugh out-loud in a theater, but this movie made me do just that. Ben Stiller is very funny, or maybe just the writing was funny. Either way, you'll get a kick out of it. It's got some pretty out-of-nowhere jokes that really work ' breakdance fighting, the 'walk-off', and the 'Derek Zoolander Center for Kids who Don't Read Good and Want to Do Other Stuff Good Also'. The commercials did give away some of the good jokes (like those I just mentioned), but unlike a lot of movie's I've seen, there are plenty left to merit going to see.

Will Ferrell plays the fashion mogul Mugatu ' a great character who's hair sometime out-performs his acting. Owen Wilson is Hansel, Zoolander's competition for Male Model of the Year. I liked him in Meet the Parents and thought he was just as good in this. David Duchovny makes an appearance, but it's just what they show in the commercials. There are cameo appearances by a few other celebrities including Fabio and Lenny Kravitz.

Well worth the night out.

Summary: Ben Stiller is Absolutely Adorable, His Movie Hilarious
Review: I guess I ought to warn you first by stating that I am one of the few people in the USA to love the movie "Cable Guy" directed by Ben Stiller. That movie was panned by just about everyone. I subsequently enjoyed his move into leading man acting. In every movie he's been in, I think he's proved his ability as a comedic romantic leading man. They are in short supply nowadays too so I do not take his success in that venue lightly. With this film, he returns to writing and directing plus takes the lead role of Derek Zoolander, top male model. Derek is lacking in brains in many areas, although he can suprise you in other areas with considerable smarts. Although I generally don't like brainless men, Stiller makes Derek Zoolander work for me. The supporting cast is also marvelous. Stiller's Dad Jerry has one of the best roles, Maurray, his agent. He is LOL funny every moment he is on camera. The competitor male model, played by Owen Wilson, is also quite good. I thought I'd die laughing when Stiller and Wilson, in their dumbest character modes, tried to take apart a computer, expecting to find real world file folders inside of it. This all culminates in the high fashion show of "Derelict" based on homeless dressing in NYC. Whoever did Stiller's clothes for the Derelict runway show was a mastermind of wearable art. The coat he wears on his strut down the runway is incredible. I really can't imagine anyone's not enjoying this movie. I'm glad Stiller has returned to directing but not given up on the acting. He's at his best combining them both.

Summary: The genius is in its stupidity.
Review: Zoolander is a side-splitting satire that showcases the best of comedian Ben Stiller's super-sized funny bone. Stiller plays Derek Zoolander, a dim-witted male model whose career is on the wane. He is unknowingly snapped up into an evil plot to kill the President of Malaysia, and it's up to Zoolander's equally dim-witted but funny rival-turned-sidekick Hansel (Owen Wilson) to bail him out. Through it all, Zoolander, the man, is hilarious. He's a funny-faced, funny voiced stud who represents a biting satire of the entire fashion industry. As Derek Zoolander is wont to say in his characteristic high-pitched voice: "There's more to life than just being really, really, really good-looking." In short, Zoolander is to fashion as "Austin Powers" is to spies. Moreover, the levity is especially welcome during these dark times. I say take the plunge.
