Summary: Smith keeps insulting everyone around....
Review: It's either other film makers work or politics, or in this movie religion, which is thrown into something which is so vulger and repulsive that I will not talk about it any further.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Banal
Review: I think this movie is mainly a hoot for catholics with a sense of humor. Drop that angle, and there's not much to like. A pretty hokey plotline, too many big names for no reason and no part, not doing any acting, working with a script that tosses out ideas that have a 1-second shelf life. And the down to earth modernization of mythological and religous people is Neil Gaiman stuff, Smith does it completely superficially, although they both kind of flub that awesome idea and fail to get to the emotional side of such an issue. Particularly here though, it does not rise above gimmick at all.

This is the first Smith movie I've seen, and so far he comes off as someone the public idolizes for his intelligence, mainly because he has dialogue about topics and his non-conformist appearance. There's so much more that can go into a movie though then posing a sort of intellectual question and then flexing the 'i'm people' roots persona.

Summary: Have a sense of HUMOR
Review: A little precursor. . .

I saw this movie at the local "art film" theatre a week earlier than the major release in amungst 50 protestors pickiting the theater. . .

This movie tackles some pretty intense subject matter. . . Organized religion. It says that the idea of goodness and kindness in religion is what is right and that the organizations oftentimes forget this concept. It is not "against" any religion. I was raised in a Catholic community, though not Catholic, I saw what the movie talked about around me every day. Everybody saying that they were right and everybody else was wrong. Kevin Smith hits a chord by saying that everyone is wrong because they are man and not perfect, and that they should focus on the "idea" of right as opposed to telling others they are wrong. He also says that the organization can put a lot of negative spin on concepts that were never meant to have negativity in them.

The movie is good. The cast is strong. The message is wonderful. Kevin Smith makes a racey, witty, and amazingly funny movie that touches on serious subjects. Alan Rickman was hilarious as "The Metitron," Jason Lee, Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon were all strong in their parts. The extras on the DVD were impressive, lots of cut scenes (the original cut of this film ran almost 4 hours). . .

Summary: ""love to mess with the clergy""
Review: Some explicit language and very violent some sexual humor, and dark funny. Once you get past this, you see that there is a message to this story. Not a deep one, just a tip or eye opener ...Kevin Smith once again exhibits his talent for writing spoken text. Ben Affleck pulls off a great emotional scene in what appears to be a parking garage, or sub part of a building...

Summary: Great movie.Great DVD.
Review: This movie is funny as hell,it mite not be the best Kevin Smith movie but it's still [very good].Jay(Jason Mewes)and Silent Bob(Kevin Smith)are funneier in this than any other Kevin Smith movie,....There is a lot of language in it but that's what makes it funny. This movie is hallarious.

Dogmas got a sweet DVD too. It's got sweet deleted scenes that I personaley think the editor's should have kept in the movie, some are funny as hell and some have nudity. It's got some cool Special Features and two disc's,well the special edition does anyway.Rent it,see it,like it,buy it,I did.

Summary: Should be banned.
Review: This movie is vulgar and obscene. The humor is sexually explicit and very anti-Catholic. It blasphemes Judaism, Christianity and many other religions.

This movie is about as low as a major motion picture can get.

Summary: Great Movie
Review: This movie is a great flick. If you are thinking of buying this movie, then you already know what it is about... Religion and the problems it can create for people and society.

I know that Kevin Smith is almost something of an aquirred taste to most people. ... Dogma is his tackeling of a large subject, Religion, in his own way. Because of that, it sits as a different type of movie from Kevin Smiths other films. It does involve the same general mind set, and some of the same charaters, but the subjects weight makes it take on a different tone.

But the Smith experience does play well in fandom, ...

Many of the same actors from the previous movies are back, along with both Jay and Silent Bob again. Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Jason Lee are all good in this. And new comers like Linda Fiorentino, Chris Rock, Alan Rickman and Salma Hayek all turn in great performances.

To a large extent I mystified by people who hate this movie. ... Let Dogma be Dogma ...

This movie, more or less, is The Last Tempetation for Christ mated to Blazing Saddles, with Jay and Silent Bob coming along for the ride.
The extras on the discs are nice too. There are two sets of commentary from Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier. Then there is commentary from the cast, Including Jason Lee and Ben Affleck and Jay Mewes. Then there are all the outtakes, extra length sense, etc.. that add up to about 100 minutes of extra material.

Just remember, it is a comedy.

Summary: Very Cool If You Get It
Review: Chris Rock and Salma Hayeck make this movie, but everyone does a great comedic acting job. Kevin Smith's facial expressions are priceless, and Matt Damon and Ben Afflect are good. Also, the English Dude (sorry, don't feel like watching the credits right now) is great! Lots of totally dumb but funny, obscure references. The ending is kind of lame. I like Alanis Morriset normally, but it's just kind of dumb and anticlimactic. Still, this movie is one of my faves, and I watch it all the time. Big fun for those with a penchant for the conundrum that is organized religion.
