Summary: No Sacred Cows here...
Review: This movie is a classic.... It took every sacred cow and idea of political correctness and burned it like a fine steak. You find yourself laughing at things that in polite society people just don't laugh at. I have read the other reviews that put down this "30th Anniversary Special Edition". But if your buying any movie for the added commentaries, I'd say don't buy the movie. Blazing Saddles Needs no Commentaries, the movie says it all.... either you'll love it, or you'll be offended by it. If your offended by it well no amount of talking by Mel Brooks will change that. But if you get it.... if you really get the joke, then you will spend the whole time laughing histerically like I did. There is really no need to have some long winded commentary.

So in short while I might even agree with the person who didn't like the Commentary part of this edition. I purchased my copy for the MOVIE. And I was not disappointed. Again, plan to either laugh until you pee yourself... or to be offened.

Summary: By far, Mel Brooks all-time best!
Review: This was definitely Mel Brook's crowning achievement. Unfortunately you could never release a movie like this today in our "politically correct" environment. Although Cleavon Little and Gene Wilder were terrific (these are common-clave people. You know, MORONS!), it is the supporting cast that truly made this the all-time classic it is today. Slim Pickens first line in the movie is unforgettable, Harvey Korman's hilarious bad guy (that's HEDLEY!), Madeline Kahn's deadpan impersonation of Marlene Dietrich, and Alex Karras as dimwitted Mongo all contribute to the nonstop hijinks. All are hilarious and each of them steals the show at some point in the film. That part where Mongo punches out the horse is a classic clip. One terrific character in the film not mentioned in other reviews here is frontier gibberish-uttering Gabby Johnson, a dead-on spoof of Gabby Hayes, who appeared in pretty much every Western film from the turn of the last century up through the Roy Rogers era. But the true gift of this film is that every kind of humor is used, from subtle situational humor to in-your-face slapstick comedy. Truly a funny movie that is appreciated by several generations today and will continue to be so in the future.

Review: When the Small Town Sheriff Dies, The Civilans wants a Replacement as Soon as Possible but What the Town got is a Black Sheriff named Bart (Cleavon Little) and soon the Villagers from the Small Town are Panicking, the New Sheriff has a Hard Time to Win, them over, because of his Color and they are not Certain, if Bart could Carried on the Job.

Directed by Mel Brooks (Dracula:Dead and Loving It, Life Stinks, The Producers) brings a Clever, Sometimes Hilarious, Mostly Raw Spoof of the Western Flicks. Harvey Korman is Fun as Hedley Lamarr-A Politically Connected Nasty Person (Also in Two Another Roles). Scene-Stealing:Madeline Kahn recieve an Oscar Nominated for Best Supporting Actress as Lili Von Shtupp. The Movie explosed like a Machine-Gun Expeditions and the Actors runs Around Like Maniacs. Although the Film goes Out of Control at the End but It`s Doesn`t Stop You from Enjoying It. The Movie has Become as Instant Comedy Classic and It was a Big Box Office Hit Upon It`s Release in 1974. Screenplay by Andrew Bergman, Mel Brooks, Richard Pryor, Norman Steinberg and Alan Uger from a Story by Bergman. The Flick also Recieve Two Oscar Nominations for Best Film Editing and Best Song. Summary: One of the funniest movies of all time
Review: Words can't describe what a comic classic this is. I've seen this film many times and it still leaves me in stitches. Great performances from Cleavon Little, Gene Wilder, Madeline Kahn, and especially Harvey Korman("That's Hedley!").

What's even funnier is the one star reviews it's getting on here and the movie being referred to as "juvenile" and "racist". Lighten up! It's a comedy! It's a satire of westerns(a genre which was usually boring and kept recycling the same plots) and of racism back in those days. If you don't get, that's your stupidity and lack of sense of humor.

Summary: Can't we take a joke?
Review: You must first understand that "Blazing Saddles" is a comedy. It's not an action movie; nor is it a true western. The racial jokes that are portrayed here are not ment to hurt anyone. And if they do hurt you, you're missing the joke. This Mel Brooks' movie is basically a spoof of all the old westerns that so many people grew up watching. And come on, if a black sheriff had appeared in any of those western classics you'd have said "what the heck?". I have no doubt about that.

So when you watch this movie, try to understand where the director and actors are coming from. Cleavon Little (sheriff or Rock Ridge) and Gene Wilder (deputy Jim) star as two guys who attempt so stop a railroad construction from happening. And although the plot is mainly pointless, it works well for the movie. Besides, the storyline itself is not what makes the movie good. It's the spoofs and gags that do that. I particularly loved the part where the men come to a pay-toll in the middle of the desert. I won't spoil the rest for you.

In conclusion, you must have a sense of humor to enjoy "Blazing Saddles". And you should also have an understandig for how a typical western film is operated. I gave this movie 3 stars due to the fact that I'm not a huge fan of spoof movies, and there were also some racial components the film could've done without. Again, they're still jokes though. And I do recommend this movie; it's a great start to the career of Mel Brooks and to the livelihood of spoofs.
