Summary: HILARIOUS, FUNNY AND SHOULD BE SEEN BY ALL!
Review: This was one of the "sleeper" movies of the summer. It was funny and surprisingly good. Too bad it wasn't showing all over the country because it was very good.
Even though Olivia had a small part she did very well.
Hope it comes out on video soon.

Summary: Don't Miss this Movie!!
Review: This was by far the funniest movie in decades. Gay or straight you'll fall in love with the characters. Brother boy as "Tammy Wynette" performing on a psych ward was my favorite but the whole ensemble was FANTASTIC. A must for your video collection and don't forget to check out the soundtrack.

Summary: White Trash Texas Melodrama Supreme
Review: I'll keep it short and simple. 1) See this Movie 2) It is about some white trash Texas folks and will make you scream with laughter. The underlying lessons of love and acceptance are great but I defy anyone to say they don't think this movie is screamingly funny! Go see it now.

Summary: Too funny to pass up
Review: This movie is too funny to pass up. The way it deals with the way the grandmother died and how is just plain hysterical. There are some serious elements to the movie too which were very well made. In particular it dealt very well with the anguish some gay people go through when in the process of coming out. It also dealt very well with the antiquated feelings some people have about homosexuality. The fact that one of the characters was institutionalized because he wanted to dress as Tammy Wynnette was a central part of the movie. It ultimately showed that all those who harbor extreme views about gays are in and of themselves hypocrites. An excellent film!

Summary: A MUST HAVE DVD!
Review: I just can't wait for it to COME OUT on DVD!

Summary: A hoot and a howl
Review: "Sordid Lives" received only a limited release in theaters in the Los Angeles area, so it has not been seen by nearly as many people as it should.

Writer-director Del Shores balances delicate sensitivity with gut-busting laughs in this tale of a Texas family beset by death and homosexuality, not necessarily in that order.

The central figure, Ty, is a gay TV soap opera actor who is "out" to his friends and associates, but still closeted to his Texas family, who have gone so far as to institutionalize another family member ("Brother Boy") simply because of his penchant for dressing up like Tammy Wynette.

The two story elements are brought together over the funeral of the family matriarch, who passed away in the midst of a motel room tryst with a married man. (She tripped over one of his prosthetic legs and hit her head on a bathroom sink).

Beau Bridges, Delta Burke, Bonnie Bedelia and Oliva Newton-John bring Shores' characters to life in this hysterical film adaptation of his long-running stage hit.

Don't miss it when it arrives on home video.

Summary: More Texas than gay
Review: I saw this film at the annual gay/lesbian film festival here in Austin. It was a packed house and an easy-to-please crowd. That said, this film had me falling off my chair. I wanted to see it again and share it with my friends. I'm on this page looking for the DVD which is not yet available. The film is about a small town and the myriad of characters which make up the town. Lots of quirky characters. Well worth seeing. Although there are gay elements to the film, I wouldn't bill it as a gay film. In any case, it's very funny. A feel good film for all audiences.

Summary: Better than Church
Review: It may be a bit early but Sordid Lives is my bid for best movie of the 21st Century. No movie says more about the healing powers of acceptance and forgiveness than this one. I laughed till I cried and cried till I laughed.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Theatre full of laughter
Review: Though it's billed as a "gay" film, Sordid Lives is much more than a simple coming out comedy.

With a crazy, convoluted story and the perfect blend of Texas-style characters, this movie keeps you laughing from scene to scene.

I loved it. My best friend saw it 4 times and I cant wait for the video. The over-the-top characters are hillarious. I've never been in a theatre with that much laughter.
