Summary: What hump?
Review: This is simply the funniest movie ever! Even if you've seen it a thousand times, this DVD is worth buying for the behind the scenes documentary with out-takes and such.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: mundane comedy
Review: i don't usually disagree with the general concensus of reviewers, but this time it's personally unavoidable. i viewed this film for the first time this past weekend after purchasing it. i considered it to be very mundane for comedy. the contradiction in terms is intentional. i may have been amused to the extent of laughing twice throughout the entire film. if this is any example of Mel Brook's greatest comical acheivement then his brand of humor is assinine at best. this one would have have played better as a dramatic remake of the original. sorry Mel, you're just not funny.

as for the the DVD, it has enough extras to satisfy fans of this supposed comic film director/producer.

Summary: Young Frankenstein
Review: Great movie, now on DVD, the people in this classic BW film from 1974 was overlooked by the critics and is a super funny film. Brooks and his team of writers were at their top and really delivered the belly laughs. If you have no sense of humor, I now you are out there, stay away. This is for people that like to laugh together and understand the characters of science fiction genre.

GOOD DAY

Review: Oh sweet mystery of life at last I've found you!! Mel Brooks is a genius. Need I say more?

Summary: Good Spoof
Review: This is one of Mel Brooks' better movies. Funny without being stupid. Gene Wilder turns in a wonderful performance as Dr Frankenstein, although with a different pronuancation. Peter Boyle as the monster and Madaline Kahn and Terry Garr as the love intersts are a great cast. Watching some of the old horror movies gave me a better understanding of what Brooks was skewing. Stands good with no pryor knowledge but even better with a back round in classic horror movies.

Summary: Gag a minute....
Review: If this movie got any funnier, it would be illegal! This is one of a small brace of movies, written by former gag writers for "Your Show of Shows", that kind of "rifled" the jokes and sight gags at you! Mel Brooks, for some reason, (I wonder what it is,) was VERY fond of poking fun at German culture, and you give him a trite teutonic subject to praody and the venom never stopped!!

"My grandfather's work was DOO-DOO!!"

"I ain't got no boooody, and nobody cares for me! Ha-ta-chee-cha-hat-ta-chee-cha!"

"Pardon me, boy...is this the Transylvania Station?" "Ja, track 29....can I give you a shine?"

Then there's the "Putting On The Ritz" number with the monster!I'm telling you, you give any jewish comedian named Mel a platform to work from, and I GUARANTEE you at least ONE comic classic! And this is one of THREE for Brooks! The black and white cinematography is first rate and this film has been called "....One of the most beautifully photographed comedies ever made!" by more than one reviewer.

Brooks was certainly at the top of his game here, but unfortuately, after this movie, he started into a long, slow decline and hasn't rebounded since, (except for "Life Stinks" and "History Of The World", MAYBE!) so enjoy this movie, for it's the last of its kind from a director that used to DEFINE truly screwball comedies!

Summary: A great edition of a classic comedy
Review: The bonus features on this DVD are good, plus the picture and sound quality are much better than the VHS.

Summary: "Des-ti-NEE! Des-ti-NEE! No escaping that for ME!!"
Review: Ah, yes... this is the month for me to once again watch some of those great old movies that have, over the years, become staunch favorites. This week it was one of my favorite comedies of all time: "Young Frankenstein."

"Young Frankenstein" stars (among others) Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, Teri Garr, Peter Boyle, Cloris Leachman, Madeline Kahn, and Kenneth Mars; the movie was written by Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks and directed by Brooks. This is a film widely recognized as one of the funniest comedies ever produced in Hollywood. In addition, it's also a brilliantly conceived, hilarious parody of the best and worst of all those old Frankenstein movies produced by Hollywood.

It's based on the nineteenth century novel "Frankenstein," the classic nineteenth century gothic novel written by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley... but with a wickedly funny, satirical twist. Our story is set in modern-day (late twentieth century) times; our protagonist is the scion of the latest generations of Frankensteins, an American neurosurgeon and college professor named Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (played by Gene Wilder.) Our protagonist is the grandson of the infamous Dr. Viktor Frankenstein, that nefarious Transylvanian scientist who dug up graves, exhumed dead bodies, and tried to bring those corpses back to life. The heir to the Frankenstein fortune, Dr. F. travels to Transylvania where he's soon transfixed by his grandfather's twisted scientific work...

The film is a 1 hour, 45 minute-long series of well timed jokes - many of them subtle, and others very broad in nature, all brought together to perfection by an ensemble cast that delivers their lines to perfection. Many of the jokes probably shouldn't be as funny as they are, and probably wouldn't be if they weren't so expertly timed by Wilder, Feldman, Garr, Mars, and Boyle. It's obvious that the cast had a lot of fun making this movie. And when the cast has fun... well, the audience is in for a real treat!!

For those who have seen the movie at least once, who can forget those oft-quoted scenes between Dr. F and Inga: "What knockers!" "Thank you, Doctor!" and "Put the candle BECK!!"? Or how about the uproarious scene (my personal favorite) between the monster and the blind hermit (played by, of all people, Gene Hackman)? Or the wooden-armed Police Inspector Kemp's (Kenneth Mars) interview with Dr. F over an errant game of darts? Or the arrival of Dr. F's fiancée (or is that "financier?" or "financée?) : DR. F: "Eyegore, would you help with the bags?" IGOR: "Soitanly, mahster... you take the blonde and I'll take the one in the toiban!!"

If you've never seen "Young Frankenstein", it bears close watching the first time you see it. That's because, in addition to the broad and sometimes coarse jokes, there are a lot of very subtle gags throughout the film as well. A few of the jokes may be unfamiliar to those who have never seen the classic old-time "Frankenstein" films... especially "Frankenstein" and "Bride of Frankenstein." Don't worry though... there's enough humor in this zany film to keep every viewer laughing for long after the final credits have rolled.

Since its release in 1974, "Young Frankenstein" has become a classic... one of the most oft-quoted films in history. It ranks number 13 on the American Film Institute's list of "Funniest American Movies of All Time." Folks, if you're one of those few people who haven't done so yet, you just gotta see "Young Frankenstein" to appreciate the wonderful humor interspersed throughout!!

Summary: A classically funny movie
Review: Young Frankenstein is one of the many classic comedies. It is a great movie with some of the best moments in filmmaking possibly. Included with the movie is, of course, the extra features such as interviews with some of the cast, deleted scenes, a making the film documentary, and some outtakes. If you haven't seen this movie I recommend you do. This movie also proves that just because it is in black and white doesn't mean it's going to be boring or extremely old and out of style.
