Summary: A Sweet Funny Movie That Everyone Can Relate To.
Review: Hilarious! An absolutely fantastic movie, that may seem predictable, but all the same it will make you feel really good. Jess is a girl who loves football and David Beckham, the then star of Manchester United. ( he has since gone to Real Madrid.) His pictures adorn her walls and she talks to his picture as if he were a close confident. This love of football of course, has her traditional Indian family up in arms. Her parents want her to get married, she wants to play football. All this is set against the background of the upcoming nuptials of her sister and the fact that Jess keeps sneaking off to play football. BTW,
Juliet Stevenson steals many scenes as the mother of Jess' friend Jules. She is hysterical as Jules' rather dim mother.
Sterotypes are abound in this film, but it is done in a funny way that points out that people are not always what we think they are based on their first appearances or their culture.
Anyone who knows what is like to have aspectations heaped on you whether it be because of your birth order, ethnicity or any other factor will find this is a movie close to their hearts.I loved it when I saw it in the theater and I love it now on dvd. A real winner for all.

Summary: Greaat Movie
Review: A Great movie. I started watching the movie with a expectation that it will make me feel good and at end I Felt much better. It exceeded far beyond my expectations. If you enjoyed Monsoon Wedding, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, then I highly reccomend you this movie. When I saw the shots taken in the movie set, I envied the team. Yes they must have enjoyed a lot while making the movie. I rented this movie through Neflix, but now I am to add this to my DVD library.

Review: This is a colorful, wonderful, charming movie - a treatful mix of "Blue Crush" "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and "Sixteen Candles." I highly recommend it to girls and women of all ages. Intelligent young men should consider this a "date movie" as well. "Bend It" is beautifully shot and scored, and soccer fans will be delighted with the game footage, but the real strength of the movie is in the different relationships: sisters, mother-daughter, father-daughter, newlywed couple, coach-player, same gender and different gender friendships; all portrayed with genuine affection.

Summary: Worth every Star!
Review: I generally don't accept critics' praise for foreign movies since American movie critics tend to gush all over anything coming across the ocean. But, this movie was worth all of the accolades and more.
The movie is a mature (i.e., intelligent, not sexual) coming of age story of an Indian girl raised in modern English culture. The Indian traditions, of course, conflict with the European ideas, but I didn't get the feeling that the film makers were mocking Indian customs. The girls of the family are bicultural and there were many scenes of the sisters comfortably transferring from one culture to another.
It is not a film, therefore, to denigrate one culture or the other. The point was to show that there are differences, but a person can transcend the differences as was done by basically every character in the film. The only clownish character was the mother of the English girl who was the best friend of the Indian lead character.
That said, let me also say that the film was often hilarious, never sermonizing, and I learned many things about the Indian culture. My Indian friends were also pleased with the film and laughed at the scenes of the culture clashes. I would especially recommend the film for girls and adolescent females for the film's strong statement of empowerment. Finally, watch the end credit outtakes, they are priceless!

Review: i get harassed by my friends for this, but i dont care. i cant relate to the main characters family at all. im a white kid in milwaukee so i cant really identify with that. however the movie rocked. completely under the radar movie that in my opinion should have gotten a lot more publicity here in the states. completely under-rated by everybody excluding my family in my opinion and a great feel good flick. tomorrow im buying it on dvd. the extras are decent btw. a music video, about 8 deleted scenes, a making of featurette, and some trailers. a must see/must own dvd. if a 19 year old guy would like this movie, im sure anybody would.

Review: Bend it Like Beckham is awesome. I haven't laughed like this in a long time. Bend it tells the story of a girl named Jess who is Indian and loves to play soccer and loves David Beckham. Her family doesn't like it because it breaks traditional Indian values. She meets a girl names Jewels(Keira Knightly....who I think is absolutely beautiful) who gets her to try out for a local girls soccer club.
She makes the team and the rest of the movie is her trying to prevent her parents of knowing about her soccer team. The movie is great. The soccer is good. It's a great blend of humor and gives some interesting ideas about Indian culture. Parminder K. Nagra has scored a goal. Hope to see more of here work in the future. Go buy this movie. You won't regret. Go Manchester Utd. and Cheers.
