Summary: Nothing like the book, but then who expected it to be?
Review: So it's nothing like the book. One can't hold that against it.

Here's what I didn't like:

The fact that Nora got away with her whole stupid-boyfriend thing. I understand that she was out of their house, but when under their roof she should have obeyed their rules and she deserved at the VERY LEAST a bigger chewing-out then she got.

The fact that the kids could do all their bad stuff and there were no consequences other than being grounded.

The fact that the grounded kids left the house anyway, again with no major consequences.

The fact that the oldest boy (who should have been helping out) copped a big attitude and got away with it.

Those things said, it was a very funny video, albeit a little on the crude side.

Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt were great together despite what other reviewers say.

Hilary Duff played the ditzy teenage girl that she is: and I don't care how many unhelpful votes I get for saying that. What else CAN one call her? And Nora's boyfriend was disgusting.

Now: I think the dog was beautiful. What a great American Bulldog. The younger actors and actresses were hilarious, especially the twins...

In short, although there were BIG things that I didn't like about it, I would probably watch a sequel if there were one.

Summary: Heavy Handed, Tired Jokes
Review: Of course, Steve Martin is a joy to watch in almost anything, and I was expecting a reprisal of his role in the wonderful PARENTHOOD. Sadly, this was not. I do not think he makes a believable football coach.

But most of all, I was bored to tears and a little disgusted by kids bratty behavior being the centerpiece of the jokes. If you come from a large family, or know someone who does, you know that discipline is the cornerstone of that many people living together. I find it incredibly hard to believe that a parent of so many offspring would calmly accept or condone any of their behavior. I wanted to spank all twelve of them (and the parents for letting them get away with it).

Summary: Steve Martin does this family film proud.........
Review: ......as does Bonnie Hunt as parents played in a movie that tells the slapstick tale of one huge family - obviously fictional. "Mom" Bonnie Hunt authors a book on the story of her abundant family and gets published but also has to promotionally tour which gets us to the point. "Dad" played by Steve Martin is left solo to manage this enormous tribe of children and simultaneously handle his new job as a football coach. Note the irony? He can coach a band of bravado football players but has trouble using similar techniques to "control" his children. Hilary Duff is adorable as a teenage daughter and the remaining entourage of grade schoolers is well cast and hilariously well directed. It's rather silly at times but that's part of the charm and only Steve Martin's timing could pull off the slapstick but it's a family flick without stress or news of war or to simply escape the mundane for parents and kids together.

Summary: That's entertainment.
Review: Not much to dislike in this fun, wild, family spoof that is oozing with talent and heavy on sentiment.

Bonnie Hunt is wonderful as the long-suffering mother, suddenly thrust into the talk-show circuit. Steve Martin is the character he always plays: befuddled, humble, kind, and warm. The kids are, without exception, great, and every bit the stars of this vehicle as Hunt and Martin.

Even the supporting cast is great and contributes significantly to the movie. Who can forget Ashton Kutcher in his self-parody character.

There may, in fact, be too many characters and too much going on, and a few times in the movie that your suspension of disbelief gets tested. I wanted to see more of Hunt and some of the children, but there simply wasn't time.

"Cheaper" probably isn't winning a lot of critical awards, but it's good clean fun. Certainly a welcome break from grisly deaths and "action" movies that have nothing but action. It's certainly worth a watch and will be something I keep around the house for a rainy day.

Summary: Good family fun...Martin and Hunt are fantastic
Review: Steve Martin (Looney Tunes: Back In Action, Dead Men Dont Wear Plaid) plays a husband/football coach married to a author of the boook Cheaper By The Dozen, Bonnie Hunt, which they wo have is 12 kids to take care of...which means a lot of responsibility...Martin is overcrowded with his football team and Richard Jenkins (Changing Lanes, Say It Isnt So) down his neck all the time and Hunt has her book to premote. Martin signs up with Jenkins football team the Stallions and the family move away from their country town to a new place. the neighbors are stuck up, their kids dont fit in at their new schools. Martin is great and awesome as usual, same to Bonnie Hunt. the kids are funny...kids include Tom Welling(Tv's Smallville), Hilary Duff(Agent Cody Banks, Lizzie McGuire) and Piper Perabo(the adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle, Coyote Ugly)...Perabo has her "beautiful" and kid hating boyfriend over for a visit, played by an uncredited Ashton Kutcher... he has some moments in this movie. highlights are when the kids go to the birthday across the street and a snake gets loose and the ulogy for Beans the frog played out hilariously by Steve Martin. Alan Ruck(best known for Stewart on Spin City and the movie Speed and Twister) stars as one of Martins new uptight neighbors and also theres a cameo by Wayne Knight as the chandelier fixer.

Summary: A Great Family Movie...
Review: Yes, it's formulaic, typical Hollywood schlock. My expectations were low going in, and that probably is the reason I didn't feel cheated by this underachieving film. This is not great art. This is not about great performances. With the exception of a few scenes (most of which were in the trailer) this is not even exceptionally funny. I already saw this DVD on sale for $10 at Target, not that I would remotely consider purchasing it. CBTD is another case of Hollywood churning out bland remakes of classic films that weren't exceptionally good the first time around to keep its actors in circulation and generate a few dollars for the studio.

Even plugging in stars like Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt, and Ashton Kutcher can only do so much to raise the level of a film like this. For them, I'm sure, it was a paycheck. For me, it was cheap, mindless entertainment for a cold winter's evening. Kids might enjoy the pratfalls and sight gags, but for anyone over 20, this is probably one of those films that you will sit blithely through, have a few laughs, and promptly return to the rental store.

Summary: cheaper by the dozen
Review: It's not easy living in a house with eleven kids, a dog, and various slithery creatures that make their way into the kitchen at the worst possible times, and Tom Baker (Steve Martin) knows that better than anyone. For he is the father of twelve kids - eleven if you count that one of them has moved out. When Tom is offered a job to coach football at a College in Illinois, and announces that his family is moving, there are complaints all around. But, the money is better, so the Baker family moves to a middle-class neighborhood, where they don't exactly fit in. The teenagers of the family, Charlie (Tom Welling), and Lorraine (Hilary Duff) are constantly in verbal fights with the popular kids; while the younger kids, mainly Jake (Jacob Smith) and Sarah (Alyson Stoner), are in constant fist-fights. The family has pretty much turned into one filled with a bunch of whiners, except when older sister Nora (Piper Perabo), stops by for dinner with her self-obsessed, model/actor boyfriend, Hank (Ashton Kutcher), and the kids wreak havoc on him. When Tom's wife, Kate (Bonnie Hunt), publishes a book, she is immediately sent on the road to plug it's release. Hence, Tom is left to take care of the kids by himself, and problems galore ensue.

I have seen Steve Martin (THE MAN WITH TWO BRAINS and L.A. STORY) in various movies, but his role as the clueless, dim-witted, always smiling father in this film was utterly hilarious. Bonnie Hunt (WAITRESS and JERRY MAGUIRE) was fabulous as the mother - a role which she plays in almost every film she's in. Hilary Duff's (THE LIZZIE MCGUIRE MOVIE and A CINDERELLA STORY) role was a little strange, as she seemed to be playing herself thrown into a family of small-town dwellers who don't like the city. but was good in her own right, as she has a cute, bubbly personality that lights up the screen. However, probably one of the best performances came from Ashton Kutcher (THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT and DUDE, WHERE'S MY CAR?), as the self-absorbed, waif-like model, who watches his commercials on TV all day, and talks about nothing but himself. Throughout the movie, whenever he appeared on screen it was hard to contain your laughter. Overall, this was a fabulous family film that can be enjoyed by all, even if you don't have a large family.

Summary: A Nice Relaxing Film for a Change, with Laughs!!!
Review: There are other reviews out there which spell out the entire film, and I'll let them do it for you. For this review, all I have to say is that Bonnie Hunt and Steve Martin are terrific in this movie, a remake of an earlier Clifton Webb one.

Although one reviewer thought Bonnie Hunt was perfect...I disagree. She's really got a great streak of "being human," and Martin is totally agreeable, and he really clicks with Hunt. The ensemble cast of children was wonderful, too, and no, they weren't the Brady Bunch, or the Partridge Family. This was a family movie for...entertainment's sake.

I happen to know many families with multiple children and their lives are equally funny at times, so this movie can be credible. Don't listen to O'Reilly, who didn't like the film. Just see the wonderfulness of this nice film with your family, put the popcorn out, and get ready for quite a few laughs. It's well worth it. Then get the original. You won't be disappointed. I wasn't.

Highly recommended!!!
