Summary: Great Flick
Review: This movie was HILARIOUS! It is a dark comedy and not everyone's cup of tea I'm sure, but it was great.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: kind of like a sequal to meet the parents
Review: When I went to the theatre I didn't think duplex would be that great. I was expecting a heartwarming story with some comedy in it, even though I hoped it wasnt that, so was it a heartwarming story? of course not, and thats what makes this movie so great, even from the very begining i was laughing. This movie is about a couple who move into a duplex and expect a nice old lady neighbor, but get horrible old lady who bothers them every second. Nothing goes right for this couple through the entire thing, and at the end when you think it will be happy other bad stuff happens to them. I'm not going to give anything away that is why my review is so short, but i'l tell you one thing this is almost like a sequal to meet the parents, but better. So you wanna know if they lived happy ever after? read the book...

Summary: I thought it was hysterical!!
Review: My husband and I saw this movie on opening night and we both thought that it was hysterical. A must-buy on DVD when it comes out. Ben and Drew had good chemistry as a married couple trying to rid themselves of an annoying tenant. And the old lady was absolutely great!!! At times you wanted to kill her yourself and at other times she could actually tug at your heartstrings. But I have to say, the theater did not take well to this movie. See, I love movies like Theres Something about Mary and Dumb and Dumber. That is what this movie reminded me of. Ben Stiller is one of the great comic geniuses of our time. And we also had a great Fandango experience at the theater. We will use that again definitely!!

Summary: It's a comedy...
Review: ... The reality is, this is a hilarious movie about that old lady taking 4 hours in the grocery checkout that you can't avoid fantasizing about just knocking off to get through. In your head, afterwards you'd be revered and cheered, but you know that in reality you'd get life in prison. Keep in mind that about 3/4 of the way through the film, it is revealed that the old lady wouldn't care if she'd get bumped off, because she was old and had done it countless times to other tenants before.

Summary: I think this may not be Bad... A Review by Dan
Review: I really like Ben Stiller and think that his comedy is a nice relief from all the teenage-geared crap. This movie looks pretty funny, and I think you have to see the actual thing to make a true judgement. The Trailer for Shrek, to me, and probably to quite a few, well, frankly, sucked. The movie looked like a total bomb, yet it did outstanding in Box Office Sales. This movie gets a 5 star rating so the only other review doesn't have to ruin it for everyone else. People should make their own judgements, not some person who thinks every movie they see sucks or is biased against an actor.

Summary: A dire mess of a film
Review: This movie has been such a troubled production you have to admit that it was never gonna be great. But dear oh dear. No one could have predicted it would be this bad. All the funny bits are in the trailer and the rest is just a dire mess. Watch the trailer instead.

Summary: They've been better
Review: I'll keep this short. I expected a lot more from this duo. I was left feeling disappointed after seeing this movie. I wouldn't watch it again.

Summary: Watch out
Review: This movie is cute and lovable! Drew Barrymore is perfect and Ben Stiler stunk in this movie. I bought it and watch every few weeks. No hate!

Summary: crude but often amusing comedy
Review: In Danny De Vito's "Duplex," Ben Stiller and Drew Barrymore play a young couple who buy a "dream apartment" in Brooklyn whose amenities include everything two upwardly mobile yuppies could possibly want: ample space, solid wood floors, three glorious fireplaces, and, above all, a quiet environment where Alex, a budding novelist, can spend his days writing in uninterrupted peace and quiet. Or so they think...for, unfortunately, the place also comes replete with what turns out to be the tenant from hell, a doddering old woman who lives on the second floor and who makes life miserable for the two of them with her continually blaring television and her constant intrusions into their daily lives. Finally driven to the breaking point, Alex and Nancy decide to take matters into their own hands in order to rid themselves of this human pest in any way they can.

"Duplex" is, essentially, a one-joke comedy and, as such, it does suffer from the occupational hazard common to all one-joke comedies of built-in repetitiousness. However, the writing has a surprisingly dark edge to it that lifts the film above the run-of-the-Hollywood-comedy-mill. I must confess to having a certain weakness for dotty old lady comedies, counting among my favorite films the original British classic "The Lady killers" from 1955. Eileen Essel is so delightful as the bete noire of the piece that it's hard not to fall under the spell of both her character and the film itself. De Vito, in a return to the black comedy form that served him so well in "The War of the Roses," keeps the comedy tough and brutal, even if it means bludgeoning the audience over the head a bit in the process. Stiller does his usual shtick as the put-upon Everyman, while Barrymore is able to use her customary cutesiness to full advantage as the sweet little ingenue driven to murder to save her own sanity.

"Duplex" is certainly not everyone's cup of tea, and I imagine that it would not win the stamp of approval from the AARP. Still, if you're in the market for something different in a mainstream comedy, "Duplex" just might fit the bill.
