Summary: The best thing I've ever seen on TV in 40 years!
Review: So good I watched it into the wee hours of the night, and then sat down on a Sunday morning with my husband and watched the entire mini-series start to finish that day!! Bravo.
Colin Firth is amazing, Jennifer Ehle is outstanding. These are probably the best performances of their careers.
This is the best thing I've ever seen on TV in 40 years. Better than Shogun, Thorn Birds, Scruples, Taken, Storm of the Century, or anything else! Everyone I know who's watched it has loved it. Mr. Bennet is OUTSTANDING, Mrs. Bennet perfect in her role. The casting was perfect. Whoever cast the roles in the film deserves an oscar. The sister Jane and Mr. Bingley were perfect, the annoying sister Lydia was perfect. No one could have done a better adaptation of this wonderful novel. If you've seen it, or once you've seen it, go and read the novel to pick up all the little details.
NOT TO BE MISSED!

Summary: A wonderful adaptation
Review: I found this version of Pride and Prejudice infinitely better than those I have seen in the past. I read the book after I watched the movie and was glad I did. The only thing I would criticize is the development of the relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth. It was slow and lagged behind the details in the book. I was not sure of their feelings for each other throughout and because of that the ending was a complete surprise. It felt as if it was cliffhanger; I was left completely unsatisfied by the ending. At the last scene I was still not sure what they felt for each other. There are parts left out of the movie that were integral in the book. Though I realize that every part of the book could not possibly find its way in this adaptation. It is evident that much was left on the cutting room floor. I agree with one of the reviewer that Jennifer Ehle's smirk in the movie was in the words of the characters at times tiresome. I still would recommend this DVD to anyone who is a fan of these types of stories and Jane Austen.

Summary: Pride & Prejudice (BBC) An Old Story My New Favorite
Review: An incredible, beautifully done story of Austen's classic. True to every historical detail and the actors and actresses walked through time. Jennifer Ehle is exceptional. With her classic beauty and supreme acting (tell me the truth now, this woman was born in the 18th century, right?) she transports you back in time. I am a adult who, though I love history, am not given to hiding in romantic novels, but I have watched this movie about 6 or 7 times. When I need an escape, I go spend the day with "Jane and Lizzy". Any man or woman who appreciates history will also enjoy this film for it's detail to just that.

Summary: Ode to Darcy
Review: Oh God! How much better does it get?? And it's on DVD, so it's very easy to fast forward so you can watch all the scenes with Darcy in them in just under three hours....the only bad thing is that the Piano flirting scene between Elizabeth and Darcy in the company of Mr Fitzwilliam is on the first disk, and most of the other really good ones are on the second, but what can you do? This set is an utterly crucial possession for any female, regardless of age. If only there were more Darcys in the world.....

Summary: WORTH OWNING AND REPEAT VIEWING
Review: I'm usually very hesitant about adaptations from book to film (especially classics), but this movie does justice to Jane Austin's timeless masterpiece. I rented this movie on a whim, thinking that it would at least be somewhat entertaining, but to my surprize and great pleasure, it not only captivated the true essence of the novel but the characters really came alive and stayed true to the story the whole way through. I eventually bought the DVD and I have NOT had "buyer's remorse" ever since. I get caught up in every moment of every scene of every viewing.

There are no annoying "Hollywood stars" in it like in Ang Lee's Sense and Sensibility, yet the acting is incredible. Although I enjoyed Sense and Sensibility (on the second viewing because the first time I watched it I fell asleep), it doesn't hold a candle to Pride and Prejudice. This adaption lets your imagination steep in the imagery, language, and essence of the film so you never get "pulled out" of a scence. If you're unsure as whether or not to buy this gem, just do what I did and rent it for the weekend. You'll soon discover that your movie collection will be lacking without this rendition of Pride and Prejudice.

Summary: Pride and Prejudice
Review: This was a fascinating portrayal of life back in the Jane Austen aera and Mr Darcy abd Lizzie Bennet were at the top of their game. The English countryside was beautiful and all the characters played their parts to perfection

Review: it was one of the best movies i've ever seen.

Summary: good, not great
Review: Colin Firth is outstanding, but the others in the cast? The female lead goes through most of the movie with the same blushing smirk. Expression to show dislike of Darcy: smirk. Expression to show love of Darcy: smirk. Love for Wickham: smirk. Contempt of Wickham: smirk. This is fatal, because her change of heart re Darcy is the heart of the story.
Am not sure I approve of the way the director tries to put a modern day spin on Lizzie's materialism. In the book she says she began to love Darcy when she saw his huge estate. I know, it's also a very well designed, landscaped estate - but Darcy's father or grandfather did the designing, so it's hard to accept this as anything other than a sign that Lizzie is not as much a romantic as she claims to be. But the movie has Lizzie laughing as she says this - a cop out. Anyway - Firth is great, but the scenes without him are either dull or over-the-top, and Lizzie's mother seems to be doing a Dame Edna impression.

Summary: EXTREMELY POOR VIDEO QUALITY - Buy the tape instead
Review: I had the tape of this series, and it was excellent. I wanted the additional information, however, so I bought the DVD. The quality was so poor, it looked almost like a black and white movie! I returned it.
