Rating: Summary: Not for everybody Review: I personally love classic movies because it seems that in the days before special effects and naked bodies, movies actually made use of structure, dialogue, and character development. So I rented this after several recommendations from my film-loving peers. Now I'm going to contradict myself here. If you haven't seen this movie, then I suggest you do. It is so well regarded that you should see what all the fuss is about. For me, however, it was such a disappointment that I turned it off before I got half way through. Each situation seemed like more of the same, which I suppose is great when you're enjoying it. But I found the humor forced and stale. Thus, the over-done performances (standard for screwball) grated on my nerves. See the movie, hopefully enjoy it, but be advised that it's not for everyone.
Rating: Summary: Just smile and smile and smile and laugh alot Review: Yeah everything is a classic today-cars and fashions and movies and on and on. Well sorry this is a real classic, a beautifully crafted, funny, hysterical, one-of-a-kind movie with two of Hollywood's greats at their best. The story is unique, the writing is sharp, witty, bright, and intelligent. Grant is at his befuddled best and Hepburn at her hysterical height! You'll watch this movie over and over. Every doctor should recommend this film-I know Norman Cousins would!
Rating: Summary: THE GREATEST COMEDY Review: This is my favorite comedy of all time. I've seen it more than 30 times. I once watched it three times in one day. The entire cast lead by the wonderful Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant deliver immaculate performances. This film is regarded as the greatest screwball comedy of all time and even made AFI's prestigious list of the 100 greatest movies of all time. I highly recommend this movie. If I could only watch one more movie this would be my undisputed choice. This classic will never get dated because of its high quality.
Rating: Summary: Never a better time Review: This is not merely one of the finest screwball comedies - it is also one of the funniest, most charming, most energetic and most inventive comedies ever made.Beautifully directed - almost unnoticeably,in fact, which is how it should be with a great comedy - and superbly acted - not just by the brilliantly intelligent and playful Grant and the cast-against-type Hepburn, but also by the likes of the crafty Walter Catlett, the ever-reliable May Robson and the gloriously artful Charlie Ruggles - this is a fabulously engrossing comic fantasy.Buy it,watch it,and then return to watch it over and over again. It never loses its magic. It really is a genuine delight.(Completists might also like to track down the colorized version:sacrilege,I know, but the colour is not too bad,and -this is really sad!- this particular print is a fraction longer than the current black-and-white version).
Rating: Summary: COMEDY GENIUS! THEY DON'T MAKE THEM LIKE THIS ANYMORE! Review: Cary Grant and Kathrine Hepburn are at their best in this screwball comedy. Their comic timing is what comedians are made of. Both actors at the top of their game. A definite must buy or rent. The only travesty is that it IS NOT ON DVD!
Rating: Summary: The greatest and, possibly, the funniest movie about fun! Review: This film is one of the four comedies Kathrene Hepburn and Cary Grant have ever made. They did look good together in all four of them. In this one, Hepburn is a rich and stubborn young lady, who always gets what she wants; Grant is indesicive, stutteting, de-masculinized scientist, who never gets what he wants [that is until he meets Hepburn]. A leopard and a cute little pooch (which, I think, was Grant's own dog. But, I am not too sure about that), named George, are also involved. Some of the most memorable scenes are: Grant fainting, Grant in Hepburn's lingerie, Grant and Hepburn singing: "I can't give anything but love, baby"... Watch this film and you will enjoy two hours of laugh-therapy. TRY TO GET A COLORIZED VERSION. If for nothing else, then, simply to see the color of Grant's lingerie in an infamous scene.
Rating: Summary: Quite Possible the Best Screwball Comedy I've Ever Seen Review: A man hears singing outside his house at night. He comes over to his window, and the girl that was singing calmly explains that she needs to sing in order to get her pet leopard down from his roof. This is the sort of movie Bringing Up Baby is. Hilarious and Very well-Executed. Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn have the Epitome of great chemistry. This kind of movie has so much goodness and wholesome-ness in it you want to show it to the world. Reminds me of my friend Harvey, except that this has romance thrown in as well, which is always a plus when with the right actors. It is so absolutely zany that some very great lines become mere throwaways. I would say a few if I wanted to ruin for you a great movie.
Rating: Summary: I can't give it anything but praise Review: By far the best screwball comedy ever made. Cary Grant is hysterical as a stuffy professor commissioned by a museum to solicit a donation from a wealthy widow; while he is doing so he meets a madcap heiress (played by Hepburn) who falls for him - and she just happens to be the widow's niece. The film is side-splitting from start to finish and features great performances from some of the best of the 30's character actors: May Robson as wealthy Aunt Elizabeth (you'll love the way she fumes over Grant and Hepburn's antics); Barry Fitzgerald in a small role as half-drunken groundskeeper Fogarty; Walter Catlett as the scatterbrained Constable Slocum; Fritz Feld as a psychiatrist; and especially Charlie Ruggles as the good-natured but incredibly loony Major Horace Applegate (from the time he steps on the screen, he'll have you in hysterics). The lion's share of praise, however, goes to Grant and Hepburn; this was one of Hepburn's first screwball comedies and yet her delivery is so fast and furious, you wonder why she didn't make more in this genre. Grant is superb as usual as stuffy Professor Huxley (his inspiration for his performance was silent comic Harold Lloyd). My favorite scenes include the restaurant scene, when Hepburn tears Grant's tuxedo jacket, and he in turn steps on the back of her dress and rips it off (that scene seems to demonstrate how, in an offbeat way, the characters are made for each other); and a hilarous supper-table scene with Grant, Hepburn, Robson and Ruggles. I really don't understand why this film didn't attract depression era audiences in droves, it's terrific escapism guaranteed to make you forget your troubles and laugh for a while. Guaranteed to stand up to repeated viewings - I've seen it at least 20 times and I still haven't gotten tired of it.
Rating: Summary: Bringing Up Baby Review: A very unique comedy, as well as excrutiatingly funny! This IS one of my favorite movies ever, and i simply must suggest that you go and rent it. It is sooooo good!
Rating: Summary: Hepburn is Irritating. Review: I've seen this movie many times and each time I dislike Katherine Hepburn even more. She is completely irritating in the car accident scene and she just goes on from there. Cary Grant is, as always fabulous.
