Summary: Thats five votes for Swope!
Review: The best way I can think to praise this movie is to point out that it was preceded by a porno movie on my step-dads dubbed tape copy and i spent much more time watching this movie then watching the porno.(and not just because i was only watching the porno for fifteen minutes at a time)I don't know if Putney Swope is as politically relevant today as it was when it came out but a midget president who invites a reporter into a three way with him and his midget first lady merely because the reporter voted for him sounds like a gag that could be on South Park tonight.

Summary: Funniest movie I've ever seen
Review: The first half of the film, from Putney's ascent to the top of the agency through the commercials created, is the funniest bit of film making ever recorded. The second half, with his descent into selfish egoism, starts to drag a bit, but that only lets you recover from the holding-your-sides laughter in the first half. Can't recommend this film enough.

Summary: Insanity in every frame...
Review: The true beauty of this film lies in the fact that Downey is able to pack so much insanity in so tight a space. Every frame of this picture is spilling over with madness worthy of the Marx Brothers at their anarchistic best. Just dig the names, man! We have Mark Focus, Mr. Victrola Cola, Mr. Ethereal Cereal...my God, it's the 1960s at its dark, psycho-delic best. Sure, it's a bit dated, but come on - it's an artifact, as telling of the times as "Magical Mystery Tour" or "Gimmie Shelter."

Incidentally, unlike most "racial comedies" of the 1960s, Downey allows his pointed satire to skewer both black and white (think Hal Ashby's "The Landlord"). All in all a perfectly insane picture; maybe not a cinematic classic, but certainly the damn funniest products of "alternate" cinema to date.

Summary: Outrageously hilarious, awesomely brilliant
Review: This is my favourite American movie (not that this is saying much, admittedly). Anyone trying to make something this good in America today would be arrested. This vicious satire of political, racial, sexual and corporate hypocrisy (particularly in the advertising industry) could only have been made in the heady days of the counterculture. It's right up there with "The Naked Lunch" by W.S. Burroughs in the relentless outrageousness of its (frequently racial and sexual) humour. Some of the comic references are a little dated, so it helps to appreciate the humour if you remember the Black Panthers, the Black Muslims, Henry Kissinger and Dustin Hoffman's ads for Volkswagen. But many of its satiric jibes at corporate behaviour still ring painfully true. This movie is a must see, totally unlike any other.

Summary: GENIUS
Review: This is one of the most intelligent films I have ever seen. Not often does a comedy strike so directly at the heart of our society. I watch this movie once a month.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Hillarious Satire of Madison Avenue
Review: This movie had me in stitches the first time I viewed it. Though it seems very dated, the movie still holds up. Note the dubbed voice of Arnold Johnson. That was actually Robert Downey, Sr. Also notice "Huggy Bear" from Starsky & Hutch.

Summary: Stay Away from this movie!
Review: This movie has no redeeming values or quality in any shape, fashion or form. Someone recommended this movie to me.
Now I know why.
This is what the 'Status Quo' fears would happen if minorities were to ever take over. Chaos, and senseless actions.
The Downey's must have been strung out to deliver this low rent piece of junk.
This movie should be erased from the market. A wasted production. Sure,it was done years ago,but it is sorry. Not some great comic malise,as other reviewers may have you think.
I hated it! Save your valuable time, and don't bother.
