Review: Most comedy gags and situations have been developed from and taken from Some like it hot. A timeless film classic, so witty and charming you forget your watching a black and white movie (for those who dont like it) . the script is absolutely perfect, witty, snappy ,smart and so much fun that the lines just drip off the character's tongues. Tony Curtis is excellent here as well as Jack Lemmon,whoser comedic timing is one of the best you will ever see. Marilyn Monroe plays the standard blonde and is charming. They really dont make films like this anymore and its an absolute shame. It deserves to be on the top list of AFI films for best comedy , but for those who have seen lots of comedies, they wont see it but this film is really the originator of good solid comedic fun. if you like film or comedy you have gotta see this one!

Summary: One Of Wilder's Wildest!
Review: A.F.I's choice for the funniest movie ever made, is indeed quite funny. Whether it's the funniest movie of all time, is a mere matter of opinion, and not at all "a fact". Great performances by Jack Lemmon, Tony Curtis, and Marilyn Monroe. The standout to me is Joe E. Brown who delivers of course the famous ending line, "Nobody's perfect." A very good script written by I.A.L Diamond and Wilder. Much ,much better than their later outting "The Fortune Cookie". A excellent fast paced, humorous, movie which deserved to get Lemmon an Oscar nomination, but unrightly over-looked Curtis and Monroe! Top moments are Monroe singing "Running Wild" and my personal favorite "I'm Thru With Love", I couldn't stop laughing when Curtis ,dressed up like a woman, actually kissed her after the song! I enjoyed the scenes with Brown and Lemmon out on the town, dancing the tango. And of course the famous ending scene. Also the great George Raft turned in a "fun" performance as "Spats Colombo". A great movie everyone in need of a good laugh should watch. A COMEDY CLASSIC!

Summary: The funniest movie ever?
Review: It might be. Madcap, manic, wildly funny flick that is deservedly ranked as one of the best films ever. Two down-on-their-luck musicians (Joe and Jerry, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon) accidentally witness the St. Valentine's Day Massacre, and pose as women to join an all-woman band and escape to Florida. But romantic entanglements, identity switches, and an angry mob boss converge in a lunatic finale that is an absolute riot. Director Wilder and writer I.A.L. Diamond have constructed a endlessly hilarious farce that may leave viewers breathless. The gags come at a machine gun pace, featuring some very witty banter and a few censor-skirting double entendres. Curtis and Lemmon are great, Marilyn Monroe is a blast in one of her best parts, and an excellent supporting cast, including Joe. E. Brown as a playboy who has his eyes on "Daphne" (Lemmon), veteran character actor Pat O'Brien as Mulligan, and George Raft as the take-no-prisoners mob boss. There are so many priceless moments--the party on the train, the "Shell Oil Junior" bit on the beach, the dining room segment under the tables, the memorable ending (Brown with one of the most famous lines in movie history, which I'm not going to reveal here...oh, and watch his expression after he says it), many, many more. The film proves that one does not need flatulence or body-fluid-as-hair-gel jokes to be funny. Indeed, this film has ten times the laughs of any recent movie. Might be the late and lamented Billy Wilder's best film-and that's saying something! (Sunset Boulevard, Double Indemnity, The Seven Year Itch, The Lost Weekend, The Apartment, Stalag 17, Sabrina, many more) First-rate, from start to finish...and a bargain on DVD. Rent it, buy it, borrow it, whatever--see this film!

Summary: A Classic for Anyone!
Review: I love this movie, and I'm just a teenager! It's definitely a classic and Marilyn Monroe is smashing in this movie despite much of the behind the scene tales. Jack Lemmon does his best comic work in this movie as does Tony Curtis. If you have not seen this film, see it now. Some people may be reluctant because it's black and white and it's 40 years old, but frankly, it'll remain to be fun and enjoyable forever. My favorite scene is in the train when the all girl band has a party in Daphne/Jerry (Lemmon) bunk bed. Tony Curtis is Joe/Josephine, trying to also be an english millionaire wooing Marilyn MOnroe. He does great voices! But Lemmon's performance as a wild woman just kept me watching especially when an older man falls for him. Billy Wilder, the director, made a great one. It takes place in 1929, right before the stock market crashed, watch for some insights on that. But you'll laugh out loud, and want to see it again, because this movie will become one of your favorites!

Review: Joe and Jerry (Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon) are on the run from the chicago mob after witnessing the St Valentine's Day massacre. They decide to disguise themselves and dress up as women adopting the names Josephine and Daphne and join an all female band heading for a gig in Florida, as saxophone and double bass players. During the train ride to Florida they meet the lead singer of the band Sugar Kane (Marilyn Monroe). Joe falls for Sugar who has a thing for saxophone players and is a loser in love. Once in Florida Joe dresses up as a millionare playboy and adopts the voice of Cary Grant to pursue Sugar, giving himself the name Shell Oil Junior! Meanwhile, Daphne/Jerry is hotly pursued by Joe E Brown a millionaire playboy who's been divorced three times and is looking for wife number four. Little do Joe and Jerry know that the mobsters have also arrived in Florida for a convention. This is a wonderful fastpace slapstick comedy with a couple of wonderful songs sung by Marilyn Monroe including "I want to be loved by you" and "Running Wild". Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon are a scream dressed up in drag and Marilyn Monroe is sensual as the ditzy Sugar Kane. The three main leads interact well with each other despite rumours that there were problems between Monroe and Curtis on the set during shooting. Summary: COLD RECEPTION FOR A HOT WILDER CLASSIC
Review: MGM continues to insult the intelligence of the DVD consumer with this 'special edition' of one of Billy Wilder's all time great romantic comedies. Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis are witnesses to the Valentine's Day Massacre. To stay alive the boys shave their legs, dress in drag and join an all-girl's band fronted by sulty singing sensation, Sugar Cane (Marilyn Monroe). Featuring Monroe's inimitable renditions of "Running Wild" and "I Wanna Be Loved By You" this is a keeper in every respect.
Unfortunately MGM Home Entertainment has done a terrible job of remastering the print. Though the black and white picture exhibits exceptional contrast and clarity, the obtrusive inclusion of edge enhancement, artifacting, aliasing, fine detail shimmering and digital grit make for a really unattractive visual presentation. The sound has been remixed to 5.1, but the dated fidelity shines through. Still, the audio is presented at an acceptable listening level and without much distortion or echo.
Extras included a trip down memory lane with Tony Curtis that is overly long and really dragged down by Curtis' flamboyant hamming it up for the cameras. Oh well, I can't imagine too many people are asking him to shave his legs these days. Bottom line: If you absolutely must have the film I guess you could waste your money on this version. My hope is that someone at MGM will want to revisit this classic at a later date and with a more reputable transfer. Here's to hoping. Besides - nobody's perfect!

Summary: "Oh, We Wouldn't be Caught Dead in Chicago!"
Review: Why's that? Well, because musicians Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon just happened to witness the St. Valentine's Day Massacre and have to skidaddle off to Florida disguised as the newest members of an all-girl band, Josephine and Daphne. Even with all the stress that would cause, the guys (or girls?) manage to find love complications, as Tony develops an interest in band singer Marilyn Monroe, and Jack (in his Daphne disguise) finds himself hotly pursued by millionaire Joe E. Brown. And if that isn't enough, it just so happens that the Florida resort hotel the band's playing at has been chosen for the gangster convention, so the very mobsters Tony and Jack are fleeing wind up right in the elevator with them. Plenty of comic situations abound. In addition to Curtis, Lemmon, Monroe,and Brown, the cast also features George Raft as the mobster who ordered the Chicago hit, and Pat O'Brien as the cop tracking Raft down to Florida. All are good in their respective roles. While "Some Like It Hot" was recognized as the top comedy of the century by the AFI, I really wouldn't consider it the FUNNIEST picture I've ever seen. Don't get me wrong; it's quite hilarious, but Numero Uno? There would be a lot of competition for that slot in my opinion. Just to name a few, in no particular order: "It Happened One Night", "A Funny Thing Happened on My Way to the Forum", "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying", "Moonstruck" are all ones to make me laugh hysterically. Be that as it may, "Some Like It Hot" is probably the best work of the three main stars, and for that alone, it's worth a peek if you haven't caught it yet.

Summary: The greatest comedy of XX century
Review: Billy Wilder shows us once more his great skills as director. His versatileness allowed going from the drama (Sunset Boulevard) to the reflexive Stalag 17 and create a classic film noir as Witness for prosecution.
In this case, Wilder throws his glove to the sand about two musicians (Lemonn and Curtis) who are witeness of a multiple murder between members of the mob. This starting point will origin a progressive mistake comedie when they decide escape from a sure death, dressing femenine clothes.
Never before in the cinema there has been such a lot of laughable situations and suggestive jokes. Remember the presence of the eternally unforgettable Marilyn Monroe, who is the perfect balance in this movie.
Nobody is perfect is one of the most famous statements endings of any picture ever.
Please, acquire this one. Lemonn is fine and Curtis is in his best achievement.
Dazzling script and brilliant direction.
An eternal gem.

Summary: Stands at the top of American Comedies
Review: Jack Lemmon was a great actor in dozens of great films, but Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis were never better than in this Billy Wilder classic. Ms. Monroe and Mr. Curtis share a scene on a yacht that is both funny and guaranteed to raise the pulse of any heterosexual man with a heartbeat. Tony Curtis also does a great Cary Grant impersonation when he is trying to woo Ms. Monroe, and not wearing drag to avoid the Chicago gangsters that have tracked them to Miami. The story is absolutely ridiculous, but the cast runs with it with so much gusto that you can set aside any thoughts about how realistic the story seems to just enjoy the witty dialogue and the hilarious situations that these memorable and likable characters find themselves in. Only recommended for those who'd like a good laugh!
