Summary: Great Movie
Review: If you like musicals watch this. I used to hate watching old movies untill I was introduced to a few by my Grandma, this movie was one of them. If you have not thought about it, why would people then make bad movies, sure there are a few bad ones but some movies are still bad today. The good movies now will be old someday to, and people in the future might not want to watch them.

Review: If you love musicals you'll love this one. Dirt poor girl turns her life around. Molly goes through alot, from a Denver flood to being snubbed by Colorado High Society to the sinking of the Titanic. This is a great movie for all ages. Not rated, but should have been PG-13.

Summary: One of Debbie's Best
Review: Saw this one in its first run in theaters and I have seen it quite a few times on Beta and VHS pan-and-scan, amd looking forward to a DVD widescreen edition. Debbie had been doing light comedy/drama for awhile and according to press reports really had to practice her dancing and supposedly convince studio heads that she still had it for musicals, which she did in spades! She actually got nominated for an Oscar as Best Actress to boot! It's a joy all the way through from her tomboy number with her rough-and-tumble brothers through her strike-it-rich days. Outstanding is the "Belly Up to the Bar" number and the reunion with her "old friends" at her mansion. Debbie outdoes herself with the dancing and it's watchable over and over again. As soon as a widescreen stereo DVD is announced, I will place my order!

Review: The songs and the dances were terrific -- but Mrs. Brown's real first name was "Maggie," and this film shows the wrong side of the Titanic scraping the ice berg, better loosen your belt. Bellying up to the ice berg. Whatever.

Summary: A Fairly Good Musical
Review: THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN is a fairly good musical based on the life of a young woman who rises from rags to riches as the wife of Leadville Johnny Brown and later gains even more fame as a survivor of the sinking of the Titanic. The movie is not quite as good as the original production on Broadway starring Tammy Grimes but it is still very entertaining in spots. The most memorable song is "Belly Up To The Bar, Boys."Debbie Reynolds does a fine job in the lead as Molly Brown and Harve Presnel repeats his successful Broadway role as Leadville Johnny Brown. The strong supporting cast for the film includes Ed Begley, Hermione Baddeley, Jack Kruschen and Vassili Lambrinos. The movie received Oscar nominations for Best Color Cinematography, Color Costume Design, Color Art Direction and Adapted Music Score. Debbie Reynolds was nominated for Best Actress. MY FAIR LADY dominated the Academy Awards in 1964.

Review: The Unsinkable Molly Brown is a terrifically fun film with great music. But you may want to watch the film for "the magical sore throat hat."
If you watch the film with a group of people from begining to end you will see the image of a hat at the end of the film. Everyone in the room will feel compelled to stare at the hat. Before the image of the hat leaves the screen several people in the room, probably men, will develop a painful sore throat that will persist for several minutes after the movie ends. Nobody understands why this happens with this movie but it is a well known fact. You will have to see it for yourself to believe me. It will not work if you only watch the last half of the film.

Summary: sparkling musical entertainment
Review: THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN tells the amazing true-life story of Molly Tobin Brown, who rose from the backwoods to become the queen of international society. Debbie Reynolds (in her Oscar-nominated role) plays Molly with verve and gusto. Touching and funny, she brings you to the point of laughter, and with a turn can reduce you to tears. Harve Presnell (recreating his Broadway role) plays Molly's faithful husband. True, the spotlight is always on Molly, but Presnell sings some of the score's better songs, like "I'll Never Say No". The score by Meredith Willson ("The Music Man") is great, and is full of such rousing numbers as "Belly Up To The Bar, Boys", "He's My Friend" (written especially for the screen) and many more. Featuring a talented cast including Martita Hunt (ANASTASIA), Maria Karnilova and Jack Krushen, THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN is an unsinkable delight!

Review: This has got to be the most high energy movie and Broadway show ever produced. Debbie Reynolds as Molly is the most wonderful i've ever seen. Her incredible uplifing, very physical production numbers that she does is amazing. Handsome Harve Presnell as JJ with his great voice always gives me goose pimples.This basically semi, true story of Molly Brown, Hollywood/Broadway movie has excellent picture quality and the 5.1 Stereo Sound is awsome. The breath taking senary, great costumes, supporting cast will give you a night to pure pleasure and you'll want to watch this again and again.

Summary: Unsinkable DVD in Digital 5.1 Sound
Review: This marvelous show stopping film is based on the stage musical of the homespun backwoods girl at the turn of the last century from Meredith Willson and Richard Morris, but this is Debbie Reynolds' movie all the way! Her energetic performance as Molly Brown deserved an Oscar and more. This is a big and bawdy old-fashioned musical the way they used to make them. Impressive Choreography by Peter Gennaro and Panavision Cinematography by Daniel Fapp are now captured anamorphically (2.35:1 aspect ratio) on this DVD and make this a real winner. Combined with Meredith Willson's music remastered from the original magnetic multichannel audio into 5.1 discrete digital channels make for impressive viewing. The underrated Harve Presnell plays Johnny Brown. This guy could sing and dance! It was good to finally see him show up in a recent move in a pivital role in "Saving Private Ryan." The DVD extras are not bad. I liked the costume documentary and the screen tests of Debbie Reynolds and Harve Presnell. These were very nostalgic. 1964 sure seems like a long time ago.
