Summary: Hepburn & Bogart Shine In This Delightful Romantic Comedy
Review: In this Cinderella type story, Audrey Hepburn stars as Sabrina, a chauffers daugher who is despretly in love with her father's employer.

Sabrina decides to commit suicide after David (Sabrina's love intrest played by William Holden) breaks her heart one night. After writing a note to her father, she heads to the garage, closes the doors, turns on the cars & waits for the carbon monoxide to kill her.

Luckily, David's older brother Linus (Humphrey Bogart) happens to come along & save Sabrina. Being sent to Paris the next morning for cooking school, she is cut off from David & does not know that he is engaged. When returning four years later, sophisticated, grown-up, & beautiful she causes both David & Linus to fall for her.

The script was purchased by Paramount for Hepburn after seeing her award winning performance in 'Roman Holiday.'

Summary: Audrey is excellent. Humphrey botches it all up.
Review: I only watched this after the 1995 version of Sabrina, and Harrison Ford is MUCH better than Bogart in every aspect. Someone esle should have played the role. It's OBVIOUS there was conflict between Hepburn and Bogart when this was being filmed. Terrible, terrible.

Summary: Audrey is Audrey
Review: What more can you say. Bogart is good although not spectacular. William Holden is entertaining. But this movie is made by a young Audrey Hepburn who completely steals the show. This is the way movies should be made.

Summary: Falling In Love With Audrey Hepburn
Review: Watching this great romantic comedy, it's not difficult to figure out why the men in the story, not to mention the real world at large, fell in love with Audrey Hepburn. She's charming, beautiful, and sexy, with a screen presence that's very unique. She's showcased well in this Billy Wilder comedy about a chauffeur's daughter and the two brothers that become involved with her. As the brothers, playboy William Holden is in love with her and serious businessman Humphrey Bogart needs to split them up to allow for a major business deal that hinges on Holden marrying another woman. Holden is well cast, and although I think Bogart wasn't the best choice for his role, he does pull it off. The dialogue is as sharp as you would expect from a Billy Wilder film. It's a classy film, with moments of great comedy and romance, and it's an opportunity to see Audrey Hepburn at her best and most beautiful.

Summary: Unbelievable Romance
Review: This is an excellent romatic comedy. However, it is almost impossible to believe that Sabrina (Audrey Hepburn) would lose her affections for the attractive younger brother (William Holden) and fall in love with the MUCH OLDER brother (Humphrey Bogart). It is interesting to note that the Harrison Ford version of this movie repeats this pattern.

Summary: Magnificent
Review: From a Samuel Taylor play..the magic of Billy Wilder makes this one special.

Audrey Hepburn makes the film..eternal.A great comic performance by Walter Hampden..as the father,,( another woman whose family was in need of major dental repair)

Watch for Nancy Kulp and Emory Parnell..

Summary: UTTERLY CHARMING
Review: I think that about covers it. But I want to add that Bogy worked for me. Perhaps he should have melted a bit more. But The hat and umbrella bit on the boat deck clearly showed he was getting frisky. As Sabrina herself says "He is QUITE human."

Summary: LOVED IT!
Review: "Sabrina" is the best movie ever done! Audrey Hepburn is fantastic as Sabrina , William Holden is excellent as David , and Humphrey Bogart was also excellent as Linus . This movie has laughs & loads of romance to fill your heart!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Audrey is fantastic! Holden is great! Bogart is miscast!
Review: I guess it is akin to heresy for a huge Audrey Hepburn fan, such as myself, to give this film only three stars. I am sorry, but this is not one of my favorite Audrey films.

She is her usual terrific self in "Sabrina." At her gamine best. Her performance is the only reason I have watched this film more than once. Ably supporting her is William Holden, as the rakish younger brother David. Bill Holden is quite charming and funny in this thankless role.

Unfortunately, I believe Bogart was badly miscast. The Linus Larabee character is the linchpin to the entire story. If he does not work, the story won't work either. He is the reason I really do not think this film is a classic. He has no chemistry with Hepburn whatsoever. None. Zilch. He comes across as stiff and unhappy throughout the entire film. Yes, I know he is supposed to be playing the serious older brother; but even in his later scenes with Sabrina, when his character is supposed to melt to her charms, he still comes across looking confused as to how he ended up in this film.

It is well known that Bogart was not happy making this film. He knew that light romantic comedies were not his forte. He was also not particularly impressed with the acting ability of his beautiful co-star. There was friction between Bogart and Hepburn. And it shows on screen. (One has to wonder what Cary Grant could have done with this role? Or if Bill Holden had been given the role of Linus? Now there was chemistry! Everyone knows the Holden and Hepburn were madly in love with each other at one point. Bill Holden could play heavy leads as well as romantic charmers- see "Stalag 17"; he could have easily pulled off the role of Linus)

"Sabrina" does not work as a romance- there has to be some chemistry between the leads for a film to pull off a romantic story. There is none between Bogart and Hepburn. Audrey tries her best to keep this film from foundering; but even her beauty and charm cannot save it.
