Summary: Rick Tappe
Review: Well, here I go again. Now as a kid, back in the 1940-1950, my mother took me to the theater, dumped me there ... and there, was Abbott and Costello on the screen. These two guys were simply funny. Now that was then. Take a look now, and think as a kid. These two men did what we all would have liked to have done ... except that what Abbott and Costello did then might now be viewed as stupid. That humor was not stupid, but funny to us kids back then. Now, I suggest you sit back and simply enjoy those two simple guys, who went out to entertain us with somthing funny, after a Nation finished WWII.

Summary: best of Abbott & Costello Vol. 1
Review: This was the best money I have ever spent for a DVD collection. I introduced my 9 year old neice to Aboott and Costello volumn 1, one saturday afternoon. I wasn't sure if she would enjoy black and white old classics, but to my surprise she enjoyed every movie and wanted to schedule the following weekend to see volumn 2. The clairity of each movie was excellent. The sound and light was just the same as if you just brought a brand new movie release. The packaging and delivery was exceptional. Each movie takes you back in time as if you were reliving each episode. The comedy scenes are still as funny today as they were years ago. If your looking for good entertainment, a relaxing day or evening of just movie watching, this is the collection for you. Its truly a great buy and a collection worth sharing from generation to generation.

Summary: Should have listened to the other reviews.......
Review: I like many grew up watching Abbott & Costello every Sunday morning and looked forward to recieving the DVD. I only ordered volume one due to other reviews stating the poor quality. I too found the quality to be, lets say, lacking. I thus far have only attempted to watch the first 4 movies, 2 of which, "One night in the Tropics" and "In the Navy" freeze half way through and are unwatchable. I had no problem with "Hold that Ghost", one of my favorites. "Buck Privates" hesitates occasionally but does complete.

Summary: Not worth buying!
Review: Although DVD has good picture quality, it is a double sided disk of poor quality. At any time the picture will "pause" then play but not from where it paused. This happens often, making movies unwatchable.

Summary: 10/24/2004 And Defective Copies Are Still Around
Review: I picked up Volume 1 and Volume 3 of the A & C sets yesterday, 10/23/04, at Suncoast and I hate to say it but there are still defective copies floating around. I went to watch my favorite A & C film last night, Hold That Ghost, and lo and behold, the disc is defective. On one of my players, a top of the line Malata, the film wouldn't play at all and you bearely hear the skipping audio over the menu screen. I tried it in my other player, a top of the line Sony, and the same thing. No play and audio over the menu screen. Finally, I tried it in my cheap Samsung and the Universal opening logo actually came up but then the transfer just froze, broke up and pixilated. I had to settle for watching Who Done It? and although it played, the audio was terrible and it wasn't because it's an old movie, the audio transfer portion of the release for this film was just poorly done. It breaks up and fades in and out throughout the film even while being played on my Sony home theater system. Buyer beware!!! A poor product from Universal!!!

Summary: Truly an Amazing release- But....
Review: Sorry guys I am another buyer who got not one defective copy but exchanged three times all defective!! Freezing skipping- I own over 200 DVD's this is the first defective one I've ever run across so in that sense I am lucky.

I skipped over the bad spots and watched the films anyway and they have great quality prints and sound. And I see many reviewers lucked out with good copies so I am ever hopeful round four will go better.

I grew up watching these films on Sunday morning TV and to get EIGHT on one disc is too good to believe. Abbott and Costello were brilliant they stole a lot of jokes from The Three Stooges (word for word at times) but they were still a very original duo.

I bought my defective DVDs from Walmart not Amazon so maybe I am buying the older pressings. Hopefully I will hit one that is good because these guys are worth it and this is quite an extreme deal.

Summary: Hours of great entertainment for under $20!
Review: Like many Abbott & Costello fanatics I spent years buying them all on vhs only to see them worn out after years of repeated viewings! Now you can get 8 of their classic comedies for under $20! Not only is the picture & sound quality better than ever, you can also see the trailer as well as short essays on the production of each film. My favorite movie in this collection is Hold That Ghost & it's a wonderful prelude to A & C's classic horror comedies of the late 40s & early 50s. This & the other A & C dvd collections are must-haves for all their fans!
