Summary: Its not just the title! This actually IS the holy grail!
Review: The movie start off by a gloomy image with dark shadows and mist..in the distance you hear horses approacing...the noise comes closer, and there you have it -- Two dorks that are banging coconutshells together! The gloomy atmosphere is ripped away instantly, and you are in for a joyride in silly comedy!

It is the story of King Arthur that has become supreme ruler of rural brittain as he has been given a sword by the lady of the lake ("Pull the other one!"). Most people refuses to take him seriousy (Think about it..would you?) and those who do are truly a weird bunch. You have Sir Lancelot the Brave (Or rather, Sir Lancelot the mass murderer), Sir Galahad, Sir Robin the Not-So-Brave-As-Sir-Lancelot, Sir Not-Appearing-In-This-Film and a bunch of other loons -- Get the picture? This is not meant to be taken seriously, it is pure fun, simply meaningless fun! This can never be reproduced, there are only six guys in the entire world that could pull this off, and their trademark are clearly stated in the title.

This is also the only movie you will ever see that features killer rabbits, Knights who until recently said Ni, riders without horses, mighty wizards ("My name is.....Tim"), ugly old women beating up cats, trojan rabbits, the black knight ("Im invincible!") and a seriously bad wedding day ("You killed the best man!"). You can even learn a lot from watching it! Advanced philosophical problems like "How to recognize whitches" ("Build a bridge out of her!"), the airspeed velocity of an unlaiden swallow ("What do you mean? An european or an african swallow?"), how to be a king ("You cant be supreme ruler just because a watery tart throws a sword at you!"), french taunting ("You son of a hampster!") and what God really looks like are all revealed here.

But seriously, people who critize the movie for being historically uncorrect has really missed the point! The trojan rabbit isnt a mistake -- Its a silly twist to a silly story, and that is what the python are all about! Think about it, how daft can you be when you take a big wooden box with room for plenty of soldiers into your fortress? Or the guy got to be king because the lady of the lake gave him excalibur -- Even though it sounds kinda cool on a piece of paper, it wouldnt have been approved by many goverments when he came knocking.

As for the DVD, you get two disks filled to the rim with extras, and I have never seen so good extras before..you have a scene in Lego, a Japanese version, it is dubbed in a dozen language and subtitled in even more, it even includes a different subtitle for those who didnt like the film! Old and new sketches -- This set has it all.

The movie itself is also something special, it is rediculously childish, extremely corny, violently surrealistic and plain silly. In fact, it is so over-the-hill-stupid that you just have to get into the flow of it and laugh so hard that tears starts to flow. Nobody does what they are expected to, and nothing can possibly be taken seriously.

This is the only movie I have *litteraly* watched a thousand times, I own both VHS and DVD versions of them and I spin through them a couple of times each year. And every time I watch it I pick up something new, there is not a single serious plot building scene, there is no deeper meaning, there is just plain fun from the titles (Mainly consisting of jokes) to the very end. Many of the scenes are legendary, and the Black Knight scene is still the best moment in comedy history! Chances are that you already have seen through this film, so you problably know that you just have to own a copy of this gem -- In fact I recommend buying two of them, you just have to borrow it away to some friends, so better have a spare.

Summary: Don't show this movie to any people over the age of 80...
Review: ...you could kill them via laughter! Seriously, this is so funny, I couldn;t stand it. The humour starts in the opening credits, and then sweeps until the very end. It just bombards you with humor. I had barely enough time to finish laughing before I was down on the floor rolling around.

Summary: Simply said: a classic
Review: This ingenius (but slap-stick) comedy is a classic. I have seen the film/video/DVD dozens of times--which probably makes me "unworthy" to truly rate this production, at least in the eyes of those who have seen it HUNDREDS OF TIMES. No doubt those who saw it once and didn't like it--and if you are in this category, shame on you!--they would likely think I was a "loony" for seeing it so many times. I can't tell you how many times lines from this flick have served the purpose of livening up or changing the dull atmosphere of a party; and for those who know what I'm talking about, part of the fun is suffering through the mostly dreadful attempts at doing a British accent.

One of my favorite scenes, among many (and pardon the paraphrase for those who have the script memorized WordPerfect): "A creature so foul, so perverse, so TOTALLY cruel, that no man has gone against him yet and lived. Follow, BUT . . . ."

Now a trivia question, to which I don't have the time to find the answer--I could swear, from my earliest recollections, that the title originally was: "Monty Python's 'In Search of the Holy Grail'." Is my memory wrong? Can anyone help me out here?

Summary: Great film that has problems on a SONY player
Review: Yes, yes, yes, I know practically 100's of other reviewers have gone in to it, but on a SONY dvd player, during cerrtaain scenes, rabbits and subtitles pop up (not intentionally, either). There is a rabbit feature, where when a rabbit comes up, you click on it, and it tells you production secrets (it is called "the killer rabbit"). Great. Except for the 98% of us who don't want it. Then, every thirty seconds, you have rabbits popping up, even when you turn them off. They also have subtitles popping up, yet I haven't had audio problems. So far (knock on wood). This dvd is actually cheaper than the one-disc copy with the only special features being trilees to non-python films, and widescreen (it actually looks worse than vhs). It's also in mono. People have spent more money to get that just so they don't have to deal with these rabbits. This surprises me, since this dvd wasn't just slapped together. The picture looks crystal compared to old tv, theater, laserdisc, beta, vhs, and even dvd copies. My other complaint is that this dvd is in letterbox. I don't own an HDTV or progressive-scan player, but I'm alittle nervous. Anyway, I've told you the bad, and if you have a non-sony player, you are going to be just fine. The main menuse include old Terry Gilliam animation, and many choices. Click "The Hard of Hearing" to hear Terry Jones yeyy at you. Click "Special Features" to hear John Cleese to tell you to insert disc two. The high definition widescreen presntation is awesome! It is by far the best I've seen this film look. The soundtrack has a very loud 5.1 that is very cool, especially for hearing this film in mono my whole life. If you prefer mono, it's there, too. The subtitles for people who didn't like the film from Shakespeare's Henry IV I haven't seen yet, but before the feilm there is some annoying Shakespeare footage you have to fast foreward through to get to the actual film. The on-screen screenplay is neat. And there are two commentary tracks, 4 python actors on one, and the 2 directors on the other. I know that the one with the 2 directors is taken form the Criterion Laserdisc. The scene selection is okay, and the extra 24 seconds is unneccisary. Disc two has sing alongs, documentaries of the holy grail locations today, "How to use your coconusts :)," MPHG in Japanese (so-so), "On location with the Pythons"(An 18-minute documentary made in 1974 by BBC), a castdirectory, showing which characters actors played, unused ideas, locations, Terry Gilliams original sketches, "A load of rubbish" (dumb), some stupid easter eggs, behind the scenes photos, and many trailers. Despite the subtitles and rappbits, what a deal! The VHS is slightly cheaper than this. Thank you for taking the time to read my review and God Bless America!

Summary: The Holy Grail Of All Monty Python Movies
Review: This movie is hilarious! The only thing is that you need to use the subtitles to understand the speaking. The jokes are hilarious! If you don't think it's funny, watch it again and it'll grow funnier and funnier! If you don't already own this movie, you should because it is really really funny. I guarantee that you'll love it. The extra features are really good, too. My favorite parts were the part with the Black Knight, the castle with all the virgins in it, and the killer bunny. You have to watch this movie, it is sooooooooo funny. I just can't say it enough! It's hilarious. You have gotta at least rent this movie, but this is definitely a film that you should spend money on to get this special edition. You won't regret it! Enjoy!!!!!

Summary: nothing is sacred in this crazy, hilarious film..
Review: I absolutely love this film. It keeps you laughing the whole time, and it doesn't lose a thing in DVD format. The Japanese dubbing of the two best scenes in the movie (Trojan Bunny & Knights of Ni) adds a whole new dimension to the silliness. Between killer bunny rabbits and knights who say Ni! you will have a million and a half laughs.

Summary: Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?
Review: Monty Python and the Holy Grail is full of laughs and ongoing jokes throughout the entire movie. It includes the Trojan Rabbit, Coconuts, Swallows, the Knights Who Say "Ni!" shrubberies, Scene 24, the French tauntings, the Bridge of Death, the Black Knight, the hand turning the pages, and the Rabbit guarding the cave of Carbano.

This movie is hilarious and has the Monty Python gang(Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin) in the main roles as King Arthur, Sir Bedemear, Sir Lancelot, Sir Galahad, and Sir Robin.

This is definately one of the best comedies in the history of time, so rent it, buy it, whatever, just watch it.

Summary: "Your mother was a hamster"
Review: Probably the finest of the Monty Python troupe. John Cleese and Michael Palin are at it again with the rest of the gang. Their wild antics are outrageously entertaining.

Summary: So very clever...
Review: Okay I admit this film really doesn't hav emuch to do with Arthurian Legend the way Malory envisioned it...key characters such as, um, Guinevere for one, as well as Gawaine, Morgan le fay, Gareth, Mordred and others. But really, it doesn't even matter. This movie is SO funny all the way through; characters such as the French Taunter, Knights of Ni, the "undefeatable" Black Knight, and Brave Sir Robin offer rich satires of the Legends, and episodes such as the witch trial and the tirades of the peasants also offer hilarious and clever looks at the reality of medieval times. The Monty Python team has the wonderful mixture of deep intelligence and right-on humor down to a science--and the resulting film "M.P. and the Holy Grail" is a real work of art. YOU MUST SEE THIS MOVIE!
