Summary: Fianlly, on DVD!! I want my own Chip!!
Review: Like many here, I found the transfer of this movie to VHS to be awful (grainy, bad color). Thus, the DVD is a relief--crisp picture, letterbox format, just like in a theater! The music on the soundtrack is the same that I've always remembered (Stagger Lee, Alley Oop, It Will Stand, etc.), so those who say it had different music, please e-mail me and tell me what it was. The music now is so perfect for the film, I can't imagine anything else! Thew film itself is a delight, a great "summer film." If you have girlfriends, definitely gather them up to watch it on a summer night. The performances are great (esp. by Phoebe Cates and Annabeth Gish), and my first great crush was Scott Coffey as the sweet Chip. (BTW--My God, is Robert Rustler (Buzz) tan in this film, freakishly so. When Buzz goes off to Yale, he'll either have to pale out or buy some sun lamps to stay that red!) This film is a must see for anyone who enjoyed "Mystic Pizza," "Dirty Dancing" or "Footloose." Watch it soon! ("It's the most fun!")

Summary: I'm Bewildered!
Review: Lovely Lovely Lovely movie.....much lovelier if you learn to Shag holding on to Grandma's frig., seems there as been a little to many lessons given out. The bewilderment is my son and I lived here in 84,85,and part of 86. My son was 16y/o and worked at the old roller coaster, and a part of the movie shot there I was sitting on a bench, with a lady and her baby. My son can pretty well nick the point and time where Phoebe Cates is with Buzz on a ride. I do not understand why they are saying the movie was shot in 89. This will drive me crazy!!!! Don't never ever stop watching Shag!

Summary: Loved Scott Coffey
Review: ok the movie was just like every spring break movie you had ever seen even the characters were the same the prim one, the slut, the one that used to be a duckling and became a swan, they all go to the beach to have one last fling before they go their own ways.the movie wasn't bad it just wasn't all that memorable. but all throughout the movie i kep screaming how much i loved chip (scott coffey) his character was so lovable. i wish i could find more movies he was in.

Summary: Not just another chick flick
Review: Ok, so it's a chick flick--it's thoroughly enjoyable anyway. SHAG boasts a literate though formulaic script and a fine ensemble. The main characters are textured and likeable, except for Buzz who is a creep throughout the movie (remember that he's trying to nail a girl he's just met who's already told him she's promised to another). Pudge and Chip (Annabeth Gish and Scott Coffey) are a very sweet couple, but not in a hyper-sentimental way. Page Hannah is delightful as Luanne, a senator's prim daughter navigating between the urge to cut loose and the desire to maintain decorum. "We can have fun, but we can't be wild." You can't help rooting for Bridget Fonda's Melaina, a good-hearted bad girl rebelling against her preacher father. And Phoebe Cates is lovely and genteel as Carson, a pampered but constrained southern princess who finds herself torn between her staid fiance Harley(Tyrone Power, Jr.) and the morally wreckless Buzz (Robert Rusler), who pursues her over the wild weekend. Carson's conflict is the film's primary engine, while the budding romance between Pudge and Chip is it's heart. Melaina provides the wacky fireworks, and Luanne's futile attemps to maintain propriety provide much of the humor.

My only disappointment with SHAG is in the way the Harley-Carson-Buzz triangle was resolved. I suppose it's the writers' way of tying up loose ends and providing a happy ending for all the principals, but I found it unsettling. It's as if the universe were knocked off-kilter in an effort to impose an artificial symmetry. Traditionally in comedies there is some sort of justice meted out. Those who sow discord reap the comedic whirlwind. But in this movie the creep is rewarded for being a creep. While this detracts from the obligatory happy ending, it is not enough to ruin the movie.

Last fling movies are not generally known for intelligence and character development (remember BACHELOR PARTY?). SHAG is one of the better ones.

Summary: You will marry Bullwinkle and have 3 kids!
Review: Okay...you all think you are fans? My friends and I loved this movie so much (it released to VHS when we were in high school) and watched it so many times that we had our own last fling before going off to college and spent a week in Myrtle Beach. (Unfortunately, life isn't always as fun as a movie but we still had a good time!) Yes, the movie is cheesy, but everyone in it is so completely likeable. The music, the dancing, the outfits, the southern drawls...what's not to like? Even my mom loves this movie! It definitely fits under the category of "Chick Flick" but we all need movies to watch with our girlfriends... what ever happened to some of these fun actors? If you have not seen this movie, I highly recommend you try it out!

Summary: a fan
Review: Shag is one of my all time favorite movies... A few years ago I had to move heaven and [earth] to find it on video, so I am thrilled to find it on DVD. Anytime I want fun or cheering up I pop this in. It reminds me of growing up and goin' to the Strand. It's a shame Myrtle Beach isn't like this anymore. PLUS the dancing is AWESOME!

Summary: One of my top 5 "Beach" movies.
Review: Shortly after this movie went to video I rented and loved it. You can spare your boyfriend/husband from the pain of watching it because it's best viewed with your girlfriends. It's fun, makes you giggle, the tunes are cool and it makes you long for those young summer days at the beach. It is far better than that horrid film, Dirty Dancing.

Summary: GRITS
Review: This movie has got to be the best movie (along with Gone With the Wind) ever! I have actually worn out my VHS tape because my girlfriends and I (all from South Carolina) get together to watch it at least once a week! I went to Senior Week (as Sun Fun weekend is known to graduating seniors from SC) four years ago, as did every graduating senior in SC, as did our parents before us. My mom loves to watch it because it reminds her of her Senior Week (in 1963)! Those who don't like it, are usually guys or those who don't know what shagging is or how to do it (people not from SC or the South, basically). So give it a chance, don't just rent it, you have to buy it!
