Summary: Clever and Funny
Review: Haven't seen a Tim Robbins movie I didn't love. Here as the goofball gofer-on-the-rise, he is hilariously believable as the Company Schlub who miraculously makes it to the top. Jennifer Jason Leigh is charming and of course who wouldn't adore Paul Newman as a crusty old exec. There are loads of laughs here and some "oh if this were only possible" dreams as well.

Review: I love all of the Cohen Brother's movies, but this is my favorite. The little man infiltrates the monstor corporation and wins. It's the real american dream.

Summary: Terrific Premise and Acting; DVD flawed
Review: The movie's middle third is unbelievably funny, and Jennifer Jason Leigh is perfect. Buscemi shows up briefly during a scene at the Beatnik bar. The DVD isn't of great quality, though. The first hint comes from the fact that "Ethan" (as in "Coen") is spelled "Ethen" in the jewel case's blurb. As soon as you begin watching, you'll notice the graininess in the opening shots, and some jaggies during a pan from Tim Robbins on the ledge. The DVD is ok from then on, until you get to the dancing sequence with the white background. So, the disc is a hack job (maybe that explains the low price, too), but the movie is so well done you can overlook it for all but about 10 seconds.

Summary: Simultaneously derivative and original
Review: The most common criticism of the Coens is that, like Tarantino, they don't make movies about life, they make movies about movies. So it is here - a delightful pastiche of the mid-century screwball comedy, assembled purely from spare parts and yet, somehow completely original. Nobody does what the Coens' do with half of their skill, wit and visual flair. This is perhaps not their most accessible film, but its got a lot going for it - including the mezzanine.

Review: This is a rare movie which has comedy and beautiful cinematography. The camara is used low to convey the grandness of offices, and the humor is subtle and quick, pay attention and be ready to rewind.

Summary: A pure stylistic and comedic treat!
Review: I first saw this movie on a long, long overnight flight to Tahiti. And it kept me awake, laughing all by myself while around me everybody was sound asleep. Says a lot for the quality of the film. A most amazing and visually perfect parody. Owes a lot to such different inspirations as Jaques Tati (for the subtle gags happening somewhere in the frame, either you see them or you miss them)and Fritz Lang (for the Metropolis-like description of New York, all done with marvelous miniatures and other trick work, although its the funnier version of Metropolis.) The montage showing the success story of the Hula-Hoop deserves kudos. A great, funny and very entertaining film--and of course, at the box office it was a flop. No violence, and no burning cars flying around. Perhaps Charles Durning as an angel is not outrageous enough...

Review: This film does not hold together as well as some of the Coen Brothers other films (notably "Fargo"), but it is amusing and leaves you with a good feeling. In other words, it is entertaining.

Summary: AN OVERLOOKED MASTERPIECE!
Review: Arguably the best film made from the crafty minds of those Cohen brothers. As visually inventive and stunning as movies get with wonderful performances from the leads as well as Bruce Cambell and John Mahoney in small supporting roles. One of my all-time favorites. And the disc is in wonderful anamorphic widescreen.
